Isaiah 24
1 Behold, Yahweh makes the earth empty, makes it waste, turns it upside down, and scatters its inhabitants.
Voici, l'Éternel vide le pays et le dévaste, et il en bouleverse la surface et en disperse les habitants.
2 It will be as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the creditor, so with the debtor; as with the taker of interest, so with the giver of interest.
Et il en sera du sacrificateur comme du peuple, du maître comme du serviteur, de la maîtresse comme de la servante, du vendeur comme de l'acheteur, du prêteur comme de l'emprunteur, du créancier comme du débiteur.
3 The earth will be utterly emptied and utterly laid waste; for Yahweh has spoken this word.
Le pays sera vidé, et il sera mis au pillage, car l'Éternel a prononcé cette parole.
4 The earth mourns and fades away. The world languishes and fades away. The lofty people of the earth languish.
Le pays gémit et languit, le monde est dans la langueur et dans le deuil, les sommités du peuple du pays languissent.
5 The earth also is polluted under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant.
Or le pays était profané par ses habitants; car ils violaient les lois, transgressaient les ordonnances, rompaient l'alliance éternelle.
6 Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those who dwell therein are found guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left.
Aussi, la malédiction dévore le pays et les habitants en portent la peine; c'est pourquoi les habitants du pays sont consumés, et il n'en survit qu'un petit nombre.
7 The new wine mourns. The vine languishes. All the merry-hearted sigh.
Le moût est triste, et la vigne dépérit; tous ceux qui avaient le cœur joyeux, soupirent.
8 The mirth of tambourines ceases. The sound of those who rejoice ends. The joy of the harp ceases.
Les joies des cymbales ont cessé, et le bruit de la gaieté a fini, les joies de la harpe ont cessé.
9 They will not drink wine with a song. Strong drink will be bitter to those who drink it.
On ne boit plus de vin en chantant, la cervoise est amère aux buveurs.
10 The confused city is broken down. Every house is shut up, that no man may come in.
La ville en ruine est une cité déserte; toute maison est fermée, on n'y entre plus.
11 There is a crying in the streets because of the wine. All joy is darkened. The mirth of the land is gone.
Sur le vin on se lamente dans les rues, toute joie est disparue, et la gaieté du pays est bannie.
12 The city is left in desolation, and the gate is struck with destruction.
Ce qui reste dans la ville, c'est la désolation, et les portes brisées sont en ruines.
13 For it will be so within the earth among the peoples, as the shaking of an olive tree, as the gleanings when the vintage is done.
Car il en est dans le pays, au milieu des peuples, comme à l'abattis des olives, comme au grappillage quand la vendange est finie.
14 These shall lift up their voice. They will shout for the majesty of Yahweh. They cry aloud from the sea.
Les autres élèvent leurs voix, poussent des cris d'allégresse; depuis la mer ils célèbrent la majesté de l'Éternel.
15 Therefore glorify Yahweh in the east, even the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea!
Aussi glorifiez l'Éternel dans l'orient, dans les îles de la mer le nom de l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël.
16 From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs. Glory to the righteous! But I said, “I pine away! I pine away! woe is me!” The treacherous have dealt treacherously. Yes, the treacherous have dealt very treacherously.
Des bouts de la terre nous entendons des chants: « Gloire au juste! » Mais moi je dis: Ruine sur moi! ruine sur moi! malheur à moi! Les pillards pillent, et les pillards enlèvent du pillage.
17 Fear, the pit, and the snare are on you who inhabit the earth.
Effroi, et fosse, et filet devant toi, habitant du pays!
18 It will happen that he who flees from the noise of the fear will fall into the pit; and he who comes up out of the middle of the pit will be taken in the snare; for the windows on high are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble.
Qui fuit l'effroi, tombe dans la fosse, et qui se tire de la fosse, se prend au filet, car les écluses des lieux très-hauts s'ouvrent, et les fondements de la terre branlent.
19 The earth is utterly broken. The earth is torn apart. The earth is shaken violently.
La terre se brise, la terre se rompt, la terre est ébranlée.
20 The earth will stagger like a drunken man, and will sway back and forth like a hammock. Its disobedience will be heavy on it, and it will fall and not rise again.
La terre chancelle comme un homme ivre, elle se balance comme un hamac, et son péché pèse sur elle, et elle tombe pour ne pas se relever.
21 It will happen in that day that Yahweh will punish the army of the high ones on high, and the kings of the earth on the earth.
Et en ce même jour, l'Éternel châtiera l'armée des lieux très-hauts dans les lieux très-hauts, et les rois de la terre sur la terre,
22 They will be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and will be shut up in the prison; and after many days they will be visited.
et ils seront réunis captifs dans la prison, et enfermés dans le cachot, et après un long temps ils seront châtiés.
23 Then the moon will be confounded, and the sun ashamed; for Yahweh of Armies will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem; and glory will be before his elders.
Alors la lune sera honteuse et le soleil confus; car l'Éternel des armées règne sur la montagne de Sion et à Jérusalem, et devant ses anciens resplendira la gloire.
