Isaiah 23
1 The burden of Tyre. Howl, you ships of Tarshish! For it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in. From the land of Kittim it is revealed to them.
Oracle contre Tyr. Gémissez, navires de Tarsis! car elle est détruite: plus de maisons! personne n'y entre: la nouvelle leur en vient du pays de Cittim.
2 Be still, you inhabitants of the coast, you whom the merchants of Sidon that pass over the sea have replenished.
Frissonnez, habitants de la côte que remplissaient les marchands de Sidon, qui parcourent les mers!
3 On great waters, the seed of the Shihor, the harvest of the Nile, was her revenue. She was the market of nations.
Sur les vastes eaux flottait le blé du fleuve noir, les moissons du Nil, son revenu; et elle était le marché des nations.
4 Be ashamed, Sidon; for the sea has spoken, the stronghold of the sea, saying, “I have not travailed, nor given birth, neither have I nourished young men, nor brought up virgins.”
Sois honteuse, Sidon! car la mer, le fort de la mer, tient ce langage: « Je n'eus point les douleurs, et n'enfantai point, je ne nourris point de jeunes hommes et n'élevai point de vierges. »
5 When the report comes to Egypt, they will be in anguish at the report of Tyre.
Quand la nouvelle en viendra en Egypte, ils trembleront aux nouvelles de Tyr.
6 Pass over to Tarshish! Wail, you inhabitants of the coast!
Passez à Tarsis, gémissez, habitants de la côte!
7 Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days, whose feet carried her far away to travel?
Est-ce là votre ville joyeuse, dont l'origine remontait à l'antiquité? Ses pieds la mènent demeurer au loin comme étrangère.
8 Who has planned this against Tyre, the giver of crowns, whose merchants are princes, whose traders are the honorable of the earth?
Qui a porté cet arrêt contre Tyr, la distributrice des couronnes, dont les marchands étaient des princes, et les trafiquants les notables de la terre?
9 Yahweh of Armies has planned it, to stain the pride of all glory, to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.
L'Éternel des armées a porté cet arrêt, pour profaner toute grandeur brillante, et couvrir de mépris tous les notables de la terre.
10 Pass through your land like the Nile, daughter of Tarshish. There is no restraint any more.
Parcours librement ton pays, pareille au Nil, fille de Tarsis! Il n'y a plus de chaînes!
11 He has stretched out his hand over the sea. He has shaken the kingdoms. Yahweh has ordered the destruction of Canaan’s strongholds.
Il étendit sa main sur la mer, ébranla les royaumes; l'Éternel commanda à Canaan de détruire ses forts, et
12 He said, “You shall rejoice no more, you oppressed virgin daughter of Sidon. Arise, pass over to Kittim. Even there you will have no rest.”
Il dit: Désormais tu ne te réjouiras plus, vierge déshonorée, fille de Sidon! Lève-toi! passe chez les Cittiens! là non plus nul repos pour toi!
13 Behold, the land of the Chaldeans. This people didn’t exist. The Assyrians founded it for those who dwell in the wilderness. They set up their towers. They overthrew its palaces. They made it a ruin.
Vois le pays des Chaldéens! Ce peuple [naguère] n'était pas; l'Assyrien assigna ce pays aux habitants du désert: ils élèvent leurs vedettes, détruisent ses palais et les mettent en ruines.
14 Howl, you ships of Tarshish, for your stronghold is laid waste!
Gémissez, navires de Tarsis, car votre boulevard est détruit.
15 It will come to pass in that day that Tyre will be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king. After the end of seventy years it will be to Tyre like in the song of the prostitute.
Et en ce temps-là Tyr sera oubliée soixante-dix ans, le temps de la vie d'un roi; mais au bout de soixante-dix ans, il en arrivera à Tyr selon la chanson de la courtisane:
16 Take a harp; go about the city, you prostitute that has been forgotten. Make sweet melody. Sing many songs, that you may be remembered.
« Prends le luth, parcours la ville, courtisane oubliée, tire de beaux sons de la lyre, redouble tes chants, pour qu'on se souvienne de toi! »
17 It will happen after the end of seventy years that Yahweh will visit Tyre. She will return to her wages, and will play the prostitute with all the kingdoms of the world on the surface of the earth.
Et au bout de soixante-dix ans, l'Éternel jettera les yeux sur Tyr, et ses gains impurs lui reviendront, et elle aura commerce avec tous les royaumes du monde sur la face de la terre.
18 Her merchandise and her wages will be holiness to Yahweh. It will not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise will be for those who dwell before Yahweh, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.
Mais ses profits et ses gains impurs seront consacrés à l'Éternel; ils ne seront ni accumulés ni mis en réserve, mais ses profits seront la part de ceux qui habitent devant l'Éternel, pour les nourrir abondamment, et pour les vêtir avec magnificence.
