Aionian Verses
All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. He said, “For I will go down to Sheol to my son, mourning.” His father wept for him. (Sheol h7585)
Και εσηκώθησαν πάντες οι υιοί αυτού και πάσαι αι θυγατέρες αυτού, διά να παρηγορήσωσιν αυτόν· αλλά δεν ήθελε να παρηγορηθή, λέγων, Ότι πενθών θέλω καταβή προς τον υιόν μου εις τον τάφον. Και έκλαυσεν αυτόν ο πατήρ αυτού. (Sheol h7585)
He said, “My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he only is left. If harm happens to him along the way in which you go, then you will bring down my grey hairs with sorrow to Sheol.” (Sheol h7585)
Ο δε είπε, δεν θέλει καταβή ο υιός μου μεθ' υμών· διότι ο αδελφός αυτού απέθανε και αυτός μόνος έμεινε· και εάν συμβή εις αυτόν συμφορά εν τη οδώ, όπου υπάγετε, τότε θέλετε καταβιβάσει την πολιάν μου μετά λύπης εις τον τάφον. (Sheol h7585)
If you take this one also from me, and harm happens to him, you will bring down my grey hairs with sorrow to Sheol.’ (Sheol h7585)
εάν δε λάβητε και τούτον απ' έμπροσθέν μου και συμβή εις αυτόν συμφορά, θέλετε καταβιβάσει την πολιάν μου μετά λύπης εις τον τάφον. (Sheol h7585)
it will happen, when he sees that the boy is no more, that he will die. Your servants will bring down the grey hairs of your servant, our father, with sorrow to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
καθώς ίδη ότι το παιδίον δεν είναι, θέλει αποθάνει και οι δούλοί σου θέλουσι καταβιβάσει την πολιάν του δούλου σου του πατρός ημών μετά λύπης εις τον τάφον. (Sheol h7585)
But if the LORD makes a new thing, and the ground opens its mouth, and swallows them up with all that belong to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall understand that these men have despised the LORD.” (Sheol h7585)
εάν όμως ο Κύριος κάμη θαύμα, και ανοίξη η γη το στόμα αυτής και καταπίη αυτούς και πάντα τα αυτών και καταβώσι ζώντες εις τον άδην, τότε θέλετε γνωρίσει ότι παρώξυναν οι άνθρωποι ούτοι τον Κύριον. (Sheol h7585)
So they, and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol. The earth closed on them, and they perished from amongst the assembly. (Sheol h7585)
Και κατέβησαν αυτοί και πάντα τα αυτών ζώντες εις τον άδην, και η γη εκλείσθη επάνωθεν αυτών· και ηφανίσθησαν εκ μέσου της συναγωγής. (Sheol h7585)
For a fire is kindled in my anger, that burns to the lowest Sheol, devours the earth with its increase, and sets the foundations of the mountains on fire. (Sheol h7585)
Διότι πυρ εξήφθη εν τω θυμώ μου, και θέλει εκκαυθή έως εις τα κατώτατα του άδου, και θέλει καταφάγει την γην μετά των γεννημάτων αυτής, και θέλει καταφλογίσει τα θεμέλια των ορέων. (Sheol h7585)
“The LORD kills and makes alive. He brings down to Sheol and brings up. (Sheol h7585)
Ο Κύριος θανατόνει και ζωοποιεί· καταβιβάζει εις τον άδην και αναβιβάζει. (Sheol h7585)
The cords of Sheol were around me. The snares of death caught me. (Sheol h7585)
οι πόνοι του άδου με περιεκύκλωσαν, αι παγίδες του θανάτου με έφθασαν, (Sheol h7585)
Do therefore according to your wisdom, and don’t let his grey head go down to Sheol in peace. (Sheol h7585)
Κάμε λοιπόν κατά την σοφίαν σου, και η πολιά αυτού ας μη καταβή εις τον άδην εν ειρήνη. (Sheol h7585)
Now therefore don’t hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man; and you will know what you ought to do to him, and you shall bring his grey head down to Sheol with blood.” (Sheol h7585)
Τώρα λοιπόν μη αθωώσης αυτόν· διότι είσαι ανήρ σοφός και εξεύρεις τι πρέπει να κάμης εις αυτόν, και να καταβιβάσης την πολιάν αυτού με αίμα εις τον άδην. (Sheol h7585)
As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he who goes down to Sheol will come up no more. (Sheol h7585)
Καθώς το νέφος διαλύεται και χάνεται ούτως ο καταβαίνων εις τον τάφον δεν θέλει επαναβή· (Sheol h7585)
They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know? (Sheol h7585)
Ταύτα είναι ως τα ύψη του ουρανού· τι δύνασαι να κάμης; είναι βαθύτερα του άδου· τι δύνασαι να γνωρίσης; (Sheol h7585)
“Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time and remember me! (Sheol h7585)
Είθε να με έκρυπτες εν τω τάφω, να με εσκέπαζες εωσού παρέλθη η οργή σου, να προσδιώριζες εις εμέ προθεσμίαν, και τότε να με ενθυμηθής (Sheol h7585)
If I look for Sheol as my house, if I have spread my couch in the darkness, (Sheol h7585)
Εάν προσμένω, ο τάφος είναι η κατοικία μου· έστρωσα την κλίνην μου εν τω σκότει. (Sheol h7585)
Shall it go down with me to the gates of Sheol, or descend together into the dust?” (Sheol h7585)

They spend their days in prosperity. In an instant they go down to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)

Drought and heat consume the snow waters, so does Sheol those who have sinned. (Sheol h7585)
Η ξηρασία και η θερμότης αρπάζουσι τα ύδατα της χιόνος, ο δε τάφος τους αμαρτωλούς. (Sheol h7585)
Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering. (Sheol h7585)
Γυμνός ο άδης έμπροσθεν αυτού, και η απώλεια δεν έχει σκέπασμα. (Sheol h7585)
For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol, who shall give you thanks? (Sheol h7585)

The wicked shall be turned back to Sheol, even all the nations that forget God. (Sheol h7585)

For you will not leave my soul in Sheol, neither will you allow your holy one to see corruption. (Sheol h7585)

The cords of Sheol were around me. The snares of death came on me. (Sheol h7585)

LORD, you have brought up my soul from Sheol. You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. (Sheol h7585)
Κύριε, ανεβίβασας εξ άδου την ψυχήν μου· μ' εφύλαξας την ζωήν, διά να μη καταβώ εις τον λάκκον. (Sheol h7585)
Let me not be disappointed, LORD, for I have called on you. Let the wicked be disappointed. Let them be silent in Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
Κύριε, ας μη καταισχυνθώ, διότι σε επεκαλέσθην· ας καταισχυνθώσιν οι ασεβείς, ας σιωπήσωσιν εν τω άδη. (Sheol h7585)
They are appointed as a flock for Sheol. Death shall be their shepherd. The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning. Their beauty shall decay in Sheol, far from their mansion. (Sheol h7585)
Ως πρόβατα εβλήθησαν εις τον άδην· θάνατος θέλει ποιμάνει αυτούς· και οι ευθείς θέλουσι κατακυριεύσει αυτούς το πρωΐ· η δε δύναμις αυτών θέλει παλαιωθή εν τω άδη, αφού έκαστος αφήση την κατοικίαν αυτού. (Sheol h7585)
But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
Αλλ' ο Θεός θέλει λυτρώσει την ψυχήν μου εκ χειρός άδου· διότι θέλει με δεχθή. Διάψαλμα. (Sheol h7585)
Let death come suddenly on them. Let them go down alive into Sheol. For wickedness is amongst them, in their dwelling. (Sheol h7585)

For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)

What man is he who shall live and not see death, who shall deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
Τις άνθρωπος θέλει ζήσει και δεν θέλει ιδεί θάνατον; τις θέλει λυτρώσει την ψυχήν αυτού εκ της χειρός του άδου; Διάψαλμα. (Sheol h7585)
The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol got a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow. (Sheol h7585)
Πόνοι θανάτου με περιεκύκλωσαν, και στενοχωρίαι του άδου με εύρηκαν· θλίψιν και πόνον απήντησα. (Sheol h7585)
If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there! (Sheol h7585)
Εάν αναβώ εις τον ουρανόν, είσαι εκεί· εάν πλαγιάσω εις τον άδην, ιδού, συ. (Sheol h7585)
“As when one ploughs and breaks up the earth, our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol.” (Sheol h7585)
Τα οστά ημών διασκορπίζονται εν τω στόματι του τάφου, ως όταν τις κόπτη και σχίζη ξύλα επί την γην. (Sheol h7585)
Let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down into the pit. (Sheol h7585)
Ας καταπίωμεν αυτούς ζώντας, ως ο άδης, και ολοκλήρους ως τους καταβαίνοντας εις τον λάκκον· (Sheol h7585)
Her feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
Οι πόδες αυτής καταβαίνουσιν εις θάνατον· τα βήματα αυτής καταντώσιν εις τον άδην. (Sheol h7585)
Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the rooms of death. (Sheol h7585)
Οδοί άδου είναι ο οίκος αυτής, καταβαίνουσαι εις τα ταμεία του θανάτου. (Sheol h7585)
But he doesn’t know that the departed spirits are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
Αλλ' αυτός αγνοεί ότι εκεί είναι οι νεκροί, και εις τα βάθη του άδου οι κεκλημένοι αυτής. (Sheol h7585)
Sheol and Abaddon are before the LORD— how much more then the hearts of the children of men! (Sheol h7585)
Ο άδης και η απώλεια είναι έμπροσθεν του Κυρίου· πόσω μάλλον αι καρδίαι των υιών των ανθρώπων; (Sheol h7585)
The path of life leads upward for the wise, to keep him from going downward to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
Η οδός της ζωής εις τον συνετόν είναι προς τα άνω, διά να εκκλίνη από του άδου κάτω. (Sheol h7585)
Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol. (Sheol h7585)

Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied; and a man’s eyes are never satisfied. (Sheol h7585)

Sheol, the barren womb, the earth that is not satisfied with water, and the fire that doesn’t say, ‘Enough!’ (Sheol h7585)

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor plan, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you are going. (Sheol h7585)
Πάντα όσα εύρη η χειρ σου να κάμη, κάμε κατά την δύναμίν σου· διότι δεν είναι πράξις ούτε λογισμός ούτε γνώσις ούτε σοφία εν τω άδη όπου υπάγεις. (Sheol h7585)
Set me as a seal on your heart, as a seal on your arm; for love is strong as death. Jealousy is as cruel as Sheol. Its flashes are flashes of fire, a very flame of the LORD. (Sheol h7585)

Therefore Sheol has enlarged its desire, and opened its mouth without measure; and their glory, their multitude, their pomp, and he who rejoices amongst them, descend into it. (Sheol h7585)

“Ask a sign of the LORD your God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.” (Sheol h7585)
Ζήτησον σημείον παρά Κυρίου του Θεού σου ζήτησον αυτό ή εις το βάθος ή εις το ύψος άνω. (Sheol h7585)
Sheol from beneath has moved for you to meet you at your coming. It stirs up the departed spirits for you, even all the rulers of the earth. It has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. (Sheol h7585)
Ο άδης κάτωθεν εκινήθη διά σε, διά να απαντήση την έλευσίν σου· διά σε εξήγειρε τους νεκρούς, πάντας τους ηγεμόνας της γής· εσήκωσεν εκ των θρόνων αυτών πάντας τους βασιλείς των εθνών. (Sheol h7585)
Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, with the sound of your stringed instruments. Maggots are spread out under you, and worms cover you. (Sheol h7585)
Η μεγαλαυχία σου κατηνέχθη εις τον τάφον και ο θόρυβος των μουσικών σου οργάνων· ο σκώληξ είναι εστρωμένος υποκάτω σου και οι σκώληκες σε σκεπάζουσι· (Sheol h7585)
Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the pit. (Sheol h7585)
Εις τον άδην όμως θέλεις καταβή, εις τα βάθη του λάκκου. (Sheol h7585)
“Because you have said, ‘We have made a covenant with death, and we are in agreement with Sheol. When the overflowing scourge passes through, it won’t come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and we have hidden ourselves under falsehood.’” (Sheol h7585)
Επειδή είπετε, Ημείς εκάμομεν συνθήκην μετά του θανάτου και συνεφωνήσαμεν μετά του άδου· όταν η μάστιξ πλημμυρούσα διαβαίνη, δεν θέλει ελθεί εις ημάς· διότι εκάμομεν καταφύγιον ημών το ψεύδος και υπό την ψευδοσύνην θέλομεν κρυφθή· (Sheol h7585)
Your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall not stand. When the overflowing scourge passes through, then you will be trampled down by it. (Sheol h7585)
Και η μετά του θανάτου συνθήκη σας θέλει ακυρωθή, και μετά του άδου συμφωνία σας δεν θέλει σταθή· όταν η πλημμυρούσα μάστιξ διαβαίνη, τότε θέλετε καταπατηθή υπ' αυτής. (Sheol h7585)
I said, “In the middle of my life I go into the gates of Sheol. I am deprived of the residue of my years.” (Sheol h7585)
Εγώ είπα, Εν τη μεσημβρία των ημερών μου θέλω υπάγει εις τας πύλας του τάφου· εστερήθην το υπόλοιπον των ετών μου. (Sheol h7585)
For Sheol can’t praise you. Death can’t celebrate you. Those who go down into the pit can’t hope for your truth. (Sheol h7585)
Διότι ο τάφος δεν θέλει σε υμνήσει· ο θάνατος δεν θέλει σε δοξολογήσει· οι καταβαίνοντες εις τον λάκκον δεν θέλουσιν ελπίζει επί την αλήθειάν σου. (Sheol h7585)
You went to the king with oil, increased your perfumes, sent your ambassadors far off, and degraded yourself even to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
υπήγες μάλιστα προς τον βασιλέα με χρίσματα και ηύξησας τα αρώματά σου και απέστειλας μακράν τους πρέσβεις σου και εταπείνωσας σεαυτήν μέχρις άδου. (Sheol h7585)
“The Lord GOD says: ‘In the day when he went down to Sheol, I caused a mourning. I covered the deep for him, and I restrained its rivers. The great waters were stopped. I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him. (Sheol h7585)
Ούτω λέγει Κύριος ο Θεός· Καθ' ην ημέραν κατέβη εις τον άδην, έκαμον να γείνη πένθος· εσκέπασα την άβυσσον δι' αυτόν και εμπόδισα τους ποταμούς αυτής και τα μεγάλα ύδατα εκρατήθησαν· και έκαμον να πενθήση ο Λίβανος δι' αυτόν και πάντα τα δένδρα του αγρού εμαράνθησαν δι' αυτόν. (Sheol h7585)
I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit. All the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the lower parts of the earth. (Sheol h7585)
Έκαμον τα έθνη να σεισθώσιν εις τον ήχον της πτώσεως αυτού, ότε κατεβίβασα αυτόν εις τον άδην μετά των καταβαινόντων εις λάκκον· και πάντα τα δένδρα της Εδέμ, τα εκλεκτά και τα καλά του Λιβάνου, πάντα τα πίνοντα ύδωρ, παρηγορήθησαν εν τοις κατωτάτοις της γης. (Sheol h7585)
They also went down into Sheol with him to those who are slain by the sword; yes, those who were his arm, who lived under his shadow in the middle of the nations. (Sheol h7585)
Και αυτοί ότι κατέβησαν εις τον άδην μετ' αυτού, προς τους τεθανατωμένους εν μαχαίρα· και όσοι ήσαν ο βραχίων αυτού, οι κατοικούντες υπό την σκιάν αυτού εν μέσω των εθνών. (Sheol h7585)
The strong amongst the mighty will speak to him out of the middle of Sheol with those who help him. They have gone down. The uncircumcised lie still, slain by the sword. (Sheol h7585)
Οι ισχυρότεροι μεταξύ των δυνατών θέλουσι λαλήσει προς αυτόν εκ μέσου του άδου μετά των βοηθούντων αυτόν· κατέβησαν, κοίτονται απερίτμητοι, τεθανατωμένοι εν μαχαίρα. (Sheol h7585)
They will not lie with the mighty who are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to Sheol with their weapons of war and have laid their swords under their heads. Their iniquities are on their bones; for they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living. (Sheol h7585)
Πλην δεν κοίτονται μετά των πεσόντων ισχυρών εκ των απεριτμήτων, οίτινες κατέβησαν εις τον άδην μετά των πολεμικών αυτών όπλων· και έθεσαν τας μαχαίρας αυτών υπό τας κεφαλάς αυτών· αλλ' αι ανομίαι αυτών θέλουσιν είσθαι επί τα οστά αυτών, αν και ήσαν τρόμος των ισχυρών εν τη γη των ζώντων. I will ransom them from the power of Sheol. I will redeem them from death! Death, where are your plagues? Sheol, where is your destruction? “Compassion will be hidden from my eyes. (Sheol h7585)
Εκ χειρός άδου θέλω ελευθερώσει αυτούς, εκ θανάτου θέλω σώσει αυτούς. Που είναι, θάνατε, ο όλεθρός σου; που, άδη, η φθορά σου; η μεταμέλεια θέλει κρύπτεσθαι από των οφθαλμών μου. (Sheol h7585)
Though they dig into Sheol, there my hand will take them; and though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down. (Sheol h7585)

He said, “I called because of my affliction to the LORD. He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol I cried. You heard my voice. (Sheol h7585)

Yes, moreover, wine is treacherous: an arrogant man who doesn’t stay at home, who enlarges his desire as Sheol; he is like death and can’t be satisfied, but gathers to himself all nations and heaps to himself all peoples. (Sheol h7585)
Και μάλιστα είναι προπετής εξ αιτίας του οίνου, ανήρ αλαζών, ουδέ ησυχάζει· όστις πλατύνει την ψυχήν αυτού ως άδης και είναι ως ο θάνατος και δεν χορταίνει, αλλά συνάγει εις εαυτόν πάντα τα έθνη και συλλαμβάνει εις εαυτόν πάντας τους λαούς. (Sheol h7585)
But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgement. Whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ will be in danger of the council. Whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)

But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable. (aiōn g165)

For the law appoints men as high priests who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints a Son forever who has been perfected. (aiōn g165)
