Jeremiah 23
1 Woe be to the shepherds that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.
Malheur aux pasteurs qui perdent et dispersent les brebis de mon pâturage, — oracle de Yahweh!
2 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel against the shepherds that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD.
C'est pourquoi ainsi parle Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël, touchant les pasteurs qui paissent mon peuple: Vous avez dispersé mes brebis, vous les avez chassées, vous n'en avez pas pris soin; voici que je vais prendre soin, contre vous, de la méchanceté de vos actions, — oracle de Yahweh.
3 And I will gather the remnant of my flock from all countries where I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.
Et moi je rassemblerai le reste de mes brebis, de tous les pays où je les aurai chassées, et je les ramènerai dans leur pâturage; elles croîtront et se multiplieront.
4 And I will set shepherds over them who shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.
Et je susciterai sur elles des pasteurs qui les paîtront; elles n'auront plus ni crainte ni terreur, et il n'en manquera plus aucune, — oracle de Yahweh!
5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice upon the earth.
Voici que des jours viennent, — oracle de Yahweh, où je susciterai à David un germe juste; il régnera en roi et il sera sage, et il fera droit et justice dans le pays.
6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell in safety: and this is his name by which he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Dans ses jours, Juda sera sauvé, Israël habitera en assurance, et voici le nom dont on l'appellera: Yahweh-notre-justice.
7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, who brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
C'est pourquoi voici que des jours viennent, — oracle de Yahweh, où l'on ne dira plus: " Yahweh est vivant, lui qui a fait monter les enfants d'Israël du pays d'Egypte, " —
8 But, The LORD liveth, who brought and who led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries where I have driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.
mais " Yahweh est vivant, lui qui a fait monter et fait revenir la race de la maison d'Israël du pays du septentrion et de tous les pays où je les avais chassés; " et ils habiteront sur leur sol.
9 My heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome, because of the LORD, and because of the words of his holiness.
Aux prophètes. Mon cœur est brisé au-dedans de moi, tous mes os tremblent; je suis comme un homme ivre, comme un homme pris de vin, en présence de Yahweh et en présence de sa parole sainte,
10 For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their force is not right.
Car le pays est rempli d'adultères; car, à cause de la malédiction, le pays est en deuil; les pâturages du désert sont desséchés. L'objet de leur course est le mal; leur force est l'injustice,
11 For both prophet and priest are profane; even, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD.
Prophètes et prêtres eux-mêmes sont des profanes, et dans ma maison même j'ai trouvé leur méchanceté, — oracle de Yahweh.
12 Therefore their way shall be to them as slippery paths in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall in it: for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their punishment, saith the LORD.
Aussi leur chemin sera pour eux comme des lieux glissants dans les ténébres; ils seront poussés, ils y tomberont; car j'amènerai sur eux le malheur l'année où je les visiterai, — oracle de Yahweh.
13 And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.
Dans les prophètes de Samarie, j'ai vu de la sottise: ils prophétisaient par Baal, et ils égaraient mon peuple d'Israël;
14 I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them to me as Sodom, and its inhabitants as Gomorrah.
et dans les prophètes de Jérusalem, j'ai vu l'horreur: ils commettent l'adultère et marchent dans le mensonge; ils affermissent les mains des méchants, afin qu'aucun d'eux ne revienne de sa méchanceté. Ils sont tous pour moi comme Sodome, et les habitants de Jérusalem comme Gomorrhe.
15 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.
C'est pourquoi ainsi parle Yahweh des armées touchant les prophètes: Je vais leur faire manger de l'absinthe et leur faire boire des eaux empoisonnées! car c'est des prophètes de Jérusalem que la profanation est venue dans tout le pays.
16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not to the words of the prophets that prophesy to you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not from the mouth of the LORD.
Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées: N'écoutez pas les paroles des prophètes qui vous prophétisent. Ils vous entraînent à la vanité, ils disent les visions de leur propre cœur, et non ce qui sort de la bouche de Yahweh.
17 They say still to them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say to every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.
Ils disent à ceux qui me méprisent: " Yahweh a dit: Vous aurez la paix; " et à tous ceux qui marchent dans la perversersité de leur cœur ils disent: " Il ne vous arrivera aucun mal. "
18 For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it?
Mais qui a assisté au conseil de Yahweh pour voir et entendre sa parole? Qui a été attentif à sa parole et l'a entendue?
19 Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.
Voici que la tempête de Yahweh, la fureur, va éclater; l'orage tourbillonne, il fond sur la tête des impies.
20 The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he shall have executed, and till he shall have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.
La colère de Yahweh ne retournera pas en arrière qu'elle n'ait agi et réalisé les desseins de son cœur; à la fin des temps vous en aurez la pleine intelligence.
21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.
Je n'ai pas envoyé ces prophètes, et ils courent! Je ne leur ai point parlé, et ils prophétisent!
22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.
S'ils avaient assisté à mon conseil, ils auraient fait entendre mes paroles à mon peuple; ils les auraient ramenés de leur voie mauvaise, de la méchanceté de leurs actions.
23 Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?
Ne suis-je un Dieu que de près, — oracle de Yahweh, et ne suis-je pas aussi un Dieu de loin?
24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
Un homme peut-il se cacher dans des cachettes sans que je le voie — oracle de Yahweh? Est-ce que le ciel et la terre je ne les remplis pas, moi — oracle de Yahweh?
25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.
J'ai entendu ce que disent ces prophètes qui prophétisent en mon nom des mensonges, en disant: " J'ai eu un songe; j'ai eu un songe! "
26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart;
Jusques à quand?... Veulent-ils, ces prophètes, qui prophétisent le mensonge, ces prophètes de l'imposture de leur cœur,
27 Who think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.
pensent-ils faire oublier mon nom à mon peuple, pour les rêves qu'ils se racontent les uns aux autres, comme leurs pères ont oublié mon nom pour Baal?
28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.
Que le prophète qui a eu un songe raconte ce songe; que celui qui a ma parole rapporte fidèlement ma parole. Qu'a de commun la paille avec le froment, — oracle de Yahweh?
29 Is not my word like a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?
Ma parole n'est-elle pas comme un feu, — oracle de Yahweh, comme un marteau qui brise le roc?
30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.
C'est pourquoi, voici que je viens à ces prophètes qui se dérobent mes paroles les uns aux autres.
31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.
Voici que je viens à ces prophètes, — oracle de Yahweh, qui agitent leur langue et qui disent: " Oracle de Yahweh! "
32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their reckless boasting; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.
Voici que je viens à ceux qui prophétisent des songes menteurs, — oracle de Yahweh, qui les racontent, qui égarent mon peuple par leurs mensonges et par leur extravagance. Je ne les ai point envoyés, et je ne leur ai rien commandé; ils ne servent de rien à ce peuple; — oracle de Yahweh.
33 And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say to them, What burden? I will even forsake you, saith the LORD.
Quand ce peuple, ou des prophètes, ou un prêtre t'interrogent en ces termes: " Quel est le fardeau de Yahweh? " tu leur répondras: " C'est vous qui êtes le fardeau, et je vous rejetterai, " — oracle de Yahweh.
34 And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even punish that man and his house.
Et le prophète, le prêtre ou l'homme du peuple qui dira: " Fardeau de Yahweh, " je visiterai cet homme et sa maison.
35 Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken?
Voici comment vous parlerez l'un à l'autre et chacun à son frère: " Qu'a répondu Yahweh? " et " Qu'a dit Yahweh? "
36 And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man’s word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.
Mais vous ne répéterez plus: " Fardeau de Yahweh! " Car le fardeau de chacun sera sa parole, parce que vous tordez les paroles du Dieu vivant, de Yahweh des armées, notre Dieu.
37 Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath the LORD answered thee? and, What hath the LORD spoken?
Tu parleras ainsi au prophète: " Que t'a répondu Yahweh? qu'a dit Yahweh? "
38 But since ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the LORD; Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent to you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;
Mais si vous dites: " Fardeau de Yahweh, " alors Yahweh parle ainsi: Parce que vous dites ce mot: " Fardeau de Yahweh, " après que j'ai envoyé vers vous pour vous dire: " Ne dites plus: Fardeau de Yahweh, "
39 Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will forsake you, and the city that I gave to you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence:
à cause de cela, voici que je vous oublierai entièrement et que je vous rejetterai de devant ma face, vous et la ville que j'avais donnée à vous et à vos pères;
40 And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.
et je ferai venir sur vous un opprobre éternel, une honte éternelle, qui ne s'oublieront jamais.
