Jeremiah 22
1 Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,
Ainsi parle Yahweh: Descends à la maison du roi de Juda, et là tu prononceras ces paroles:
2 And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter by these gates:
Tu diras: Ecoute la parole de Yahweh, ô roi de Juda, qui sièges sur le trône de David, toi, tes serviteurs et ton peuple, qui entrez par ces portes.
3 Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver him that is laid waste out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.
Ainsi parle Yahweh: Faites droit et justice; arrachez l'opprimé aux mains de l'oppresseur; l'étranger, l'orphelin et la veuve, ne les maltraitez pas, ne les violentez pas, et ne versez pas le sang innocent dans ce lieu.
4 For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people.
Si vous accomplissez exactement cette parole, les rois assis sur le trône de David entreront par la porte de cette maison, montés sur des chars et sur des chevaux, eux, leurs serviteurs et leur peuple.
5 But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation.
Mais si vous n'écoutez pas ces paroles, je le jure par moi-même, — oracle de Yahweh, cette maison deviendra une ruine.
6 For thus saith the LORD to the king’s house of Judah; Thou art Gilead to me, and the head of Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.
Car ainsi parle Yahweh, touchant la maison du roi de Juda: Tu es pour moi un Galaad, le sommet du Liban; eh bien! je ferai de toi un désert, des villes inhabitées.
7 And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.
Je prépare contre toi des destructeurs, chacun avec ses outils; ils couperont tes cèdres de choix, et les jetteront au feu.
8 And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Why hath the LORD done thus to this great city?
De nombreuses nations passeront par cette ville, et elles se diront l'une à l’autre: " Pourquoi Yahweh a-t-il ainsi traité cette grande ville? "
9 Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.
Et l'on dira: " Parce qu'ils ont abandonné l'alliance de Yahweh, leur Dieu, qu'ils se sont prosternés devant d'autres dieux, et les ont servis. "
10 Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him: but weep bitterly for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.
Ne pleurez point celui qui est mort, et ne vous lamentez pas sur lui; pleurez, pleurez celui qui s'en est allé, car il ne reviendra plus, et ne verra pas le pays de sa naissance!
11 For thus saith the LORD concerning Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, who went forth from this place; He shall not return there any more:
Car ainsi parle Yahweh touchant Sellum, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, qui a régné à la place de Josias, son père, et qui est sorti de ce lieu: Il n'y reviendra plus;
12 But he shall die in the place where they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.
au lieu où on l'a emmené captif, il mourra, et il ne reverra plus ce pays.
13 Woe to him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;
Malheur à celui qui bâtit sa maison par l’injustice, et ses étages avec l'iniquité, qui fait travailler son prochain pour rien, sans lui donner son salaire!
14 That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and it is panelled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.
Qui dit: " Je me bâtirai une maison vaste, et des chambres spacieuses; " qui y perce beaucoup de fenêtres, la couvre de cèdre, et la peint au vermillon!
15 Shalt thou reign, because thou closest thyself in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him?
Es-tu roi parce que tu as la passion du cèdre! Ton père n'a-t-il pas mangé et bu? Il faisait droit et justice, alors tout allait bien pour lui;
16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD.
il jugeait la cause du malheureux et du pauvre, alors tout allait bien. N'est-ce pas là me connaître, — oracle de Yahweh?
17 But thy eyes and thy heart are only for thy covetousness, and for shedding innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.
Mais tes yeux et ton cœur ne sont tournés qu'à ton intérêt, au sang innocent pour le répandre, à l'oppression et à la violence pour les commettre.
18 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!
C'est pourquoi ainsi parle Yahweh touchant Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda: On ne pleurera pas sur lui, en disant: " Hélas! mon frère, hélas, ma sœur! " On ne pleurera pas sur lui, en disant: " Hélas, seigneur! hélas, majesté! "
19 He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
Il sera enterré comme on enterre un âne, il sera traîné et jeté hors des portes de Jérusalem.
20 Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan, and cry from the passes: for all thy lovers are destroyed.
Monte au Liban et crie; élève ta voix en Basan! Crie du haut d'Abarim, car tous tes amants sont brisés.
21 I spoke to thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear. This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou didst obey not my voice.
Je t'ai parlé au temps de ta prospérité; tu as dit: " Je n'écouterai pas! " C'est là ta conduite dès ta jeunesse; tu n'as pas écouté ma voix!
22 The wind shall eat up all thy shepherds, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.
Car le vent emmènera paître tes pasteurs, et tes amants iront en captivité; alors tu seras couverte de confusion et de honte pour toute ta méchanceté.
23 O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!
Toi qui habite au Liban, qui places ton nid dans les cèdres, comme tu gémiras quand viendront sur toi les douleurs, des convulsions pareilles à celles d'une femme en travail!
24 As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee from there;
Je suis vivant! — oracle de Yahweh: Quand Jéchonias, fils de Joakim, roi de Juda serait un anneau à ma main droite, je l'arracherais de là!
25 And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
Je te livrerai aux mains de ceux qui en veulent à ta vie, aux mains de ceux devant qui tu trembles, aux mains de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, et aux mains des Chaldéens.
26 And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bore thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
Je te jetterai, toi et ta mère qui t'a mis au monde, dans un autre pays où vous n'êtes pas nés, et là vous mourrez.
27 But to the land where they desire to return, there shall they not return.
Et au pays où ils aspireront à revenir, ils ne reviendront pas.
28 Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? is he a vessel in which is no pleasure? why are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
Est-ce donc un vase méprisé et brisé que cet homme, Jéchonias, ou bien un ustensile dont personne ne veut?... Pourquoi les a-t-on chassés, lui et sa race, et les a-t-on jetés dans un pays qu'ils ne connaissaient pas?
29 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.
Terre, terre, terre, écoute la parole de Yahweh!
30 Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.
Ainsi parle Yahweh: Inscrivez cet homme comme stérile, comme un homme qui ne réussit pas dans ses jours! Car nul de sa race ne réussira à s'asseoir sur le trône de David pour régner encore sur Juda!
