1 Chronicles 1
1 [The first person God created was Adam]. Adam’s [son was] Seth. [Seth’s son was] Enosh. [Enosh’s son was] Kenan.

2 [Kenan’s son was] Mahalalel. [Mahalalel’s son was] Jared. [Jared’s son was] Enoch.
| קינן מהללאל ירד |
3 [Enoch’s son was] Methuselah. [Methusalah’s son was] Lamech. [Lamech’s son was] Noah.
| חנוך מתושלח למך |
4 [Noah’s sons were] Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
| נח שם חם ויפת |
5 The sons (OR, descendants) of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
| בני יפת--גמר ומגוג ומדי ויון ותבל ומשך ותירס |
6 The sons (OR, descendants) of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
| ובני גמר--אשכנז ודיפת ותוגרמה |
7 The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.
| ובני יון אלישה ותרשישה כתים ורודנים |
8 The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim (OR, Egypt), Put, and Canaan.
| בני חם--כוש ומצרים פוט וכנען |
9 The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons (OR, descendants) of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
| ובני כוש--סבא וחוילה וסבתא ורעמא וסבתכא ובני רעמא שבא ודדן |
10 Another descendant of Cush was Nimrod. When he grew up, he became a mighty warrior on the earth.
| וכוש ילד את נמרוד הוא החל להיות גבור בארץ |
11 Mizraim (OR, Egypt) was the ancestor of the Lud people-group, the Anam people-group, the Lehab people-group, the Naphtuh people-group,
| ומצרים ילד את לודיים (לודים) ואת ענמים ואת להבים--ואת נפתחים |
12 the Pathrus people-group, the Casluh people-group, and the Caphtor people-group. The people of [the] Philistia [region] were descended from the Casluh people-group.
| ואת פתרסים ואת כסלחים אשר יצאו משם פלשתים--ואת כפתרים |
13 Canaan’s first son was Sidon. He was also the ancestor of the Heth people-group,
| וכנען ילד את צידון בכרו--ואת חת |
14 the Jebus people-group, the Amor people-group, the Girgash people-group,
| ואת היבוסי ואת האמרי ואת הגרגשי |
15 the Hiv people-group, the Ark people-group, the Sin people-group,
| ואת החוי ואת הערקי ואת הסיני |
16 the Arvad people-group, the Zemar people-group, and the Hamath people-group.
| ואת הארודי ואת הצמרי ואת החמתי |
17 The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.
| בני שם--עילם ואשור וארפכשד ולוד וארם ועוץ וחול וגתר ומשך |
18 Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, who was the father of Eber.
| וארפכשד ילד את שלח ושלח ילד את עבר |
19 Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg [which sounds like the word that means ‘divided’] because during the time that he lived, [the people on] the earth were divided [into various language groups]. Peleg’s [younger] brother was Joktan.
| ולעבר ילד שני בנים שם האחד פלג כי בימיו נפלגה הארץ ושם אחיו יקטן |
20 Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
| ויקטן ילד את אלמודד ואת שלף ואת חצרמות ואת ירח |
21 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
| ואת הדורם ואת אוזל ואת דקלה |
22 Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
| ואת עיבל ואת אבימאל ואת שבא |
23 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab.
| ואת אופיר ואת חוילה ואת יובב כל אלה בני יקטן |
24 The descendants of Shem, [in order from him to Abraham], were Arphaxad, Shelah,
| שם ארפכשד שלח |
25 Eber, Peleg, Reu,
| עבר פלג רעו |
26 Serug, Nahor, Terah,
| שרוג נחור תרח |
27 and Abram, whose [name was later changed to] Abraham.
| אברם הוא אברהם |
28 Abraham’s sons were Isaac and Ishmael.
| בני אברהם--יצחק וישמעאל |
29 [The son of Abraham’s slave wife Hagar was Ishmael.] Ishmael’s [twelve] sons were Nebaioth, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
| אלה תלדותם בכור ישמעאל נביות וקדר ואדבאל ומבשם |
30 Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,
| משמע ודומה משא חדד ותימא |
31 Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
| יטור נפיש וקדמה אלה הם בני ישמעאל |
32 [After]’s [wife Sarah died, he took another wife named] Keturah. The sons of Abraham and Keturah were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan’s sons were Sheba and Dedan.
| ובני קטורה פילגש אברהם ילדה את זמרן ויקשן ומדן ומדין--וישבק ושוח ובני יקשן שבא ודדן |
33 Midian’s sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah.
| ובני מדין עיפה ועפר וחנוך ואבידע ואלדעה כל אלה בני קטורה |
34 The son of Abraham [and his wife Sarah] was Isaac, and Isaac’s sons were Esau and [Jacob, whose name was later changed to] Israel.
| ויולד אברהם את יצחק בני יצחק עשו וישראל |
35 The sons of Esau were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.
| בני עשו--אליפז רעואל ויעוש ויעלם וקרח |
36 The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho (OR, Zephi), Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.
| בני אליפז--תימן ואומר צפי וגעתם קנז ותמנע ועמלק |
37 Reuel’s sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.
| בני רעואל--נחת זרח שמה ומזה |
38 [Another descendant of Esau was Seir. His descendants lived in the Edom region]. Seir’s sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.
| ובני שעיר לוטן ושובל וצבעון וענה ודישן ואצר ודישן |
39 Lotan’s sons were Hori and Homam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
| ובני לוטן חרי והומם ואחות לוטן תמנע |
40 Shobal’s sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. Zibeon’s sons were Aiah and Anah.
| בני שובל עלין ומנחת ועיבל שפי ואונם ובני צבעון איה וענה |
41 Anah’s son was Dishon. 1 Dishon’s sons were Hemdan (OR, Hamran), Eshban, Ithran, and Keran.
| בני ענה דישון ובני דישון חמרן ואשבן ויתרן וכרן |
42 Ezer’s sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan (OR, Jaakan). Dishan’s sons were Uz and Aran.
| בני אצר בלהן וזעון יעקן בני דישון עוץ וארן |
43 [These are the names of] the kings that ruled [the] Edom [region] before any kings ruled over Israel: Bela, the son of Beor, was king in Edom, and the name of the city [in which he lived] was Dinhabah.
| ואלה המלכים אשר מלכו בארץ אדום לפני מלך מלך לבני ישראל בלע בן בעור ושם עירו דנהבה |
44 When Bela died, Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah [city], became the king.
| וימת בלע וימלך תחתיו יובב בן זרח מבצרה |
45 When Jobab died, Husham became the king. He was from the region where the Teman people-group lived.
| וימת יובב וימלך תחתיו חושם מארץ התימני |
46 When Husham died, Hadad, the son of Bedad, became the king. He [ruled in] Avith city. Hadad’s [army] defeated [the army of the] Midian [people-group] in [the] Moab [region].
| וימת חושם וימלך תחתיו הדד בן בדד המכה את מדין בשדה מואב ושם עירו עיות (עוית) |
47 When Hadad died, Samlah became the king. He was from Masrekah [town].
| וימת הדד וימלך תחתיו שמלה ממשרקה |
48 When Samlah died, Shaul became the king. He was from Rehoboth [city] along the [Euphrates] river.
| וימת שמלה וימלך תחתיו שאול מרחבות הנהר |
49 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, the son of Achbor, became the king.
| וימת שאול וימלך תחתיו בעל חנן בן עכבור |
50 When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad became the king. He was from Pau city. His wife’s name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.
| וימת בעל חנן וימלך תחתיו הדד ושם עירו פעי ושם אשתו מהיטבאל בת מטרד בת מי זהב |
51 Then Hadad died. The leaders of the clans of the Edom people-group were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,
| וימת הדד ויהיו אלופי אדום אלוף תמנע אלוף עליה (עלוה) אלוף יתת |
52 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
| אלוף אהליבמה אלוף אלה אלוף פינן |
53 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
| אלוף קנז אלוף תימן אלוף מבצר |
54 Magdiel, and Iram.
| אלוף מגדיאל אלוף עירם אלה אלופי אדום |
