Galatians 2

1 Then after fourteen years again I went up to Jerusalem with Barnabas (having taken with [me] *NK+o) also Titus;

Quatorze ans après, je montai de nouveau à Jérusalem avec Barnabas, et je pris aussi Tite avec moi.

2 I went up now according to a revelation and set before them the gospel that I proclaim among the Gentiles — apart privately however to those esteemed — lest perhaps in vain I may be running or have run.

Or, j'y montai d'après une révélation, et je leur exposai, et en particulier aux plus considérés, l'Évangile que je prêche parmi les Gentils; de peur que je ne courusse ou que je n'eusse couru en vain.

3 But not even Titus who [was] with me myself, a Greek being, was compelled to be circumcised;

Et même Tite, qui était avec moi, quoiqu'il fût Grec, ne fut point obligé de se faire circoncire.

4 because of even the brought in secretly false brothers, who came in by stealth to spy out the freedom of us which we have in Christ Jesus, that us (they will enslave, *N+kO)

Et cela à cause des faux frères introduits furtivement, qui s'étaient insinués, pour épier la liberté que nous avons en Jésus-Christ, afin de nous réduire en servitude;

5 to whom not even for an hour did we yield in subjection, so that the truth of the gospel may continue with you.

Nous ne consentîmes, pas même un seul moment, à nous soumettre à eux, afin que la vérité de l'Évangile fût maintenue parmi vous.

6 Of now those esteemed to be something — whatsoever formerly they were no [thing] to me makes a difference; [the] face God of a man not does take [account of]; to me myself for the esteemed no [thing] added,

Quant à ceux qui sont comptés pour quelque chose, (il ne m'importe point quels ils ont été autrefois, car Dieu ne fait point acception de personne, ) les plus considérés, ils ne m'ont rien communiqué.

7 But on the contrary, having seen that I have been entrusted with the gospel of the uncircumcision even as Peter [with that] of the circumcision

Au contraire, quand ils virent que l'Évangile m'avait été confié pour les incirconcis, comme à Pierre pour les circoncis,

8 the [One] for having worked in Peter for apostleship of the circumcision did also in me myself toward the Gentiles —

(Car celui qui a agi efficacement dans Pierre, pour le rendre apôtre des Juifs, a aussi agi efficacement en moi, pour les Gentils, ) ayant reconnu la grâce qui m'avait été donnée,

9 and having known the grace which having been given to me, James and Cephas and John, those esteemed pillars to be, [the] right hands gave to me myself and to Barnabas of fellowship, that we ourselves [should go] (indeed *o) to the Gentiles, they however to the circumcision,

Jacques, Céphas et Jean, qui sont regardés comme des colonnes, me donnèrent, à moi et à Barnabas, la main d'association, afin que nous allassions, nous vers les Gentils, et eux vers les circoncis.

10 Only [they asked] the poor that we may remember; that also I was eager [the] same thing to do.

Seulement nous devions nous souvenir des pauvres; et je me suis appliqué à le faire.

11 When however came (Peter *N+kO) to Antioch, to face his I opposed [him], because condemned he was standing.

Or, quand Pierre vint à Antioche, je lui résistai en face, parce qu'il méritait d'être repris.

12 Before for to come certain ones from James with the Gentiles he was eating; when however (they came, *NK+O) he was drawing back and he was separating himself being afraid of those of [the] circumcision;

Car, avant que quelques personnes fussent venues de la part de Jacques, il mangeait avec les Gentils; mais dès qu'elles furent arrivées, il s'en retira et s'en sépara, craignant ceux de la circoncision.

13 And acted hypocritically with him also the rest of [the] Jews so that even Barnabas was carried away of them by the hypocrisy.

Et avec lui les autres Juifs dissimulèrent aussi, de sorte que Barnabas même fut entraîné par leur dissimulation.

14 But when I saw that not they are walking uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said (to Peter *N+kO) before all; If you yourself a Jew being like a Gentile and (not *N+kO) like a Jew live, (why *N+kO) the Gentiles do you compel to Judaize?

Mais, quand je vis qu'ils ne marchaient pas droit, selon la vérité de l'Évangile, je dis à Pierre, en présence de tous: Si toi qui es Juif, tu vis comme les Gentils, et non comme les Juifs, pourquoi obliges-tu les Gentils à judaïser?

15 We ourselves by birth Jews and not of [the] Gentiles sinners;

Nous, Juifs de naissance, et non pécheurs d'entre les Gentils,

16 knowing (then *no) that not is justified a man by works of law only except through faith from Jesus Christ even we ourselves in Christ Jesus believed, that we may be justified by faith from Christ and not by works of the Law; (since *N+kO) by works of the Law not will be justified any flesh.

Sachant que l'homme est justifié non par les œuvres de la loi, mais par la foi en Jésus-Christ, nous avons nous-mêmes cru en Jésus-Christ, afin d'être justifiés par la foi en Christ, et non par les œuvres de la loi, parce que nulle chair ne sera justifiée par les œuvres de la loi.

17 If however seeking to be justified in Christ have been found also we ourselves sinners, surely not [is] Christ of sin a minister? Never would it be!

Mais si, en cherchant à être justifiés par Christ, nous étions nous-mêmes trouvés pécheurs, Christ serait-il donc un ministre de péché? Nullement!

18 If for that I had torn down, these things again I build, a transgressor myself I prove;

Car, si je rebâtis les choses que j'ai détruites, je me déclare moi-même un prévaricateur;

19 I myself for through [the] Law to [the] Law died, that to God I may live.

Car je suis mort à la loi par la loi même, afin de vivre pour Dieu.

20 to Christ I have been crucified with; I live now no longer no longer I myself, lives however in me myself Christ; that which then now I live in [the] flesh, through faith I live that from the Son of God (and Christ *O) the [One who] having loved me and having given up Himself for me.

Je suis crucifié avec Christ, et si je vis, ce n'est plus moi, mais c'est Christ qui vit en moi; et si je vis encore dans la chair, je vis dans la foi au Fils de Dieu qui m'a aimé, et qui s'est donné lui-même pour moi.

21 Not I do set aside the grace of God; if for through [the] Law righteousness [is], then Christ for naught died.

Je n'anéantis point la grâce de Dieu; car si la justice vient de la loi, Christ est donc mort en vain.
