Deuteronomy 4
1 Now, therefore, O Israel, hearken thou unto the statutes, and unto the regulations, which, I, am teaching you, to do [them], —to the end ye may live and enter and possess the land, which, Yahweh, the God of your fathers, is giving unto you.
Τώρα λοιπόν άκουε, Ισραήλ, τα διατάγματα και τας κρίσεις, τας οποίας εγώ σας διδάσκω να κάμνητε, διά να ζήσητε και να εισέλθητε και να κληρονομήσητε την γην, την οποίαν Κύριος ο Θεός των πατέρων σας δίδει εις εσάς.
2 Ye shall not add unto the word which, I, am commanding you, neither shall ye take away therefrom, —that ye may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, which, I, am commanding you.
Δεν θέλετε προσθέσει εις τον λόγον τον οποίον εγώ σας προστάζω, ουδέ θέλετε αφαιρέσει απ' αυτού· διά να φυλάττητε τας εντολάς Κυρίου του Θεού σας, τας οποίας εγώ σας προστάζω.
3 Yours are the eyes, that have seen what Yahweh did in Baal-peor, for every man who went after Baal-peor, did Yahweh thy God destroy out of thy midst;
Οι οφθαλμοί σας είδον τι έκαμεν ο Κύριος εξ αιτίας του Βέελ-φεγώρ· διότι πάντας τους ανθρώπους, οίτινες ηκολούθησαν τον Βέελ-φεγώρ, Κύριος ο Θεός σας εξωλόθρευσεν αυτούς εκ μέσου υμών.
4 but, ye who kept on cleaving unto Yahweh your God, alive, are ye all to-day.
Σεις δε, οίτινες είσθε προσκεκολλημένοι εις Κύριον τον Θεόν σας, πάντες ζήτε την σήμερον.
5 See! I have taught you statutes, and regulations, as Yahweh my God commanded me, —that ye should do so, in the midst of the land whereinto ye are entering to possess it.
Ιδού, εγώ σας εδίδαξα διατάγματα και κρίσεις, καθώς προσέταξεν εις εμέ Κύριος ο Θεός μου, διά να κάμνητε ούτως εν τη γη, εις την οποίαν εισέρχεσθε διά να κληρονομήσητε αυτήν.
6 Therefore shall ye observe, and do [them], for that, will be your wisdom, and discernment, in the eyes of the peoples, —who will hear all these statutes, and will say—Nevertheless, a people wise and discerning, is this great nation.
Φυλάττετε λοιπόν και κάμνετε αυτά· διότι αύτη είναι η σοφία σας και η σύνεσίς σας ενώπιον των εθνών· τα οποία θέλουσιν ακούσει πάντα τα διατάγματα ταύτα και θέλουσιν ειπεί, Ιδού, λαός σοφός και συνετός είναι το μέγα τούτο έθνος.
7 For what great nation is there which hath gods nigh unto it, —like Yahweh our God, whensoever we have cried out unto him.
Διότι ποίον έθνος είναι τόσον μέγα, εις το οποίον ο Θεός είναι ούτω πλησίον αυτού, καθώς Κύριος ο Θεός ημών είναι εις πάντα όσα επικαλούμεθα αυτόν;
8 Or what great nation which hath righteous statutes and regulations, like all this law, which, I, am setting before you to-day?
Και ποίον έθνος είναι τόσον μέγα, το οποίον να έχη διατάγματα και κρίσεις ούτω δικαίας, καθώς πας ο νόμος ούτος, τον οποίον θέτω ενώπιόν σας σήμερον;
9 Only take thou heed to thyself and keep thy soul diligently, so that thou forget not the things which thine own eyes have seen, and so that they go not out of thy heart, all the days of thy life, —but thou shalt make them known unto thy sons and unto thy sons’ sons: —
Μόνον πρόσεχε εις σεαυτόν και φύλαττε καλώς την ψυχήν σου, μήποτε λησμονήσης τα πράγματα τα οποία είδον οι οφθαλμοί σου, και μήποτε χωρισθώσιν από της καρδίας σου, κατά πάσας τας ημέρας της ζωής σου· αλλά δίδασκε αυτά εις τους υιούς σου και εις τους υιούς των υιών σου.
10 What day thou didst stand before Yahweh thy God, in Horeb, when Yahweh said unto me, Gather unto me the people, that I may let them hear my words, —which they must learn that they may revere me all the days which they are living upon the soil, their children also, must they teach.
Ενθυμού την ημέραν καθ' ην εστάθης ενώπιον Κυρίου του Θεού σου εν Χωρήβ, ότε είπε προς εμέ Κύριος, Σύναξόν μοι τον λαόν και θέλω κάμει αυτούς να ακούσωσι τους λόγους μου, διά να μάθωσι να με φοβώνται πάσας τας ημέρας όσας ζήσωσιν επί της γης, και να διδάσκωσι τους υιούς αυτών.
11 So ye drew near and stood, under the mountain. Now, the mountain, was burning with fire, up to the midst of the heavens, —darkness, cloud, and thick gloom.
Και επλησιάσατε και εστάθητε υπό το όρος· και το όρος εκαίετο με πυρ έως μέσου του ουρανού, και ήτο σκότος, νέφη και γνόφος.
12 Then spake Yahweh unto you out of the midst of the fire, —a voice of words, ye were hearing, no form, were ye seeing, there was only a voice.
Και ελάλησε Κύριος προς εσάς εκ μέσου του πυρός· σεις ηκούσατε μεν την φωνήν των λόγων, αλλά δεν είδετε ουδέν ομοίωμα· μόνον φωνήν ηκούσατε.
13 Then declared he unto you his covenant which he commanded you to do, the ten words, —and wrote them upon two tables of stone.
Και εφανέρωσεν εις εσάς την διαθήκην αυτού, την οποίαν προσέταξεν εις εσάς να εκτελήτε, τας δέκα εντολάς· και έγραψεν αυτάς επί δύο λιθίνας πλάκας.
14 And unto me, gave Yahweh command, at that time, to teach you statutes and regulations, —that ye should do them, in the land whereinto ye are passing over to possess it.
Και Κύριος προσέταξεν εις εμέ κατ' εκείνον τον καιρόν να σας διδάξω διατάγματα και κρίσεις, διά να κάμνητε αυτά εν τη γη, εις την οποίαν σεις εισέρχεσθε να κληρονομήσητε αυτήν.
15 Ye must take diligent heed, therefore unto your own souls, for ye saw no manner of form, on the day Yahweh spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire;
Φυλάττετε λοιπόν καλώς τας ψυχάς σας, διότι δεν είδετε ουδέν ομοίωμα, εν τη ημέρα καθ' ην ο Κύριος ελάλησε προς εσάς εν Χωρήβ εκ μέσου του πυρός·
16 lest ye should break faith, and make you an image, a form of any likeness, —a model of male or female;
μήπως διαφθαρήτε, και κάμητε εις εαυτούς είδωλον, εικόνα τινός μορφής, ομοίωμα αρσενικού ή θηλυκού,
17 a model of any beast that is in the earth, —a model of any winged bird, that flieth in the heavens;
ομοίωμα τινός κτήνους το οποίον είναι επί της γης, ομοίωμα τινός πτερωτού ορνέου το οποίον πετά εις τον ουρανόν,
18 a model of any thing that creepeth on the ground, —a model of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth;
ομοίωμα τινός έρποντος επί της γης, ομοίωμα τινός ιχθύος όστις είναι εις τα ύδατα υποκάτω της γής·
19 or lest thou shouldest lift up thine eyes towards the heavens and see the sun and the moon, and the stars—all the host of the heavens, and shouldest be seduced, and shouldest bow thyself down to them and he led to serve them, —the which Yahweh thy God hath assigned unto all the peoples under all the heavens;
και μήπως υψώσης τους οφθαλμούς σου εις τον ουρανόν, και ιδών τον ήλιον και την σελήνην και τα άστρα, πάσαν την στρατιάν του ουρανού, πλανηθής και προσκυνήσης αυτά και λατρεύσης αυτά, τα οποία Κύριος ο Θεός σου διεμοίρασεν εις πάντα τα έθνη τα υποκάτω παντός του ουρανού·
20 whereas you, hath Yahweh taken, and brought you forth out of a smelting-pot of iron, out of Egypt, —that ye might become his own inherited people as at this day.
εσάς όμως έλαβεν ο Κύριος και σας εξήγαγεν εκ της καμίνου της σιδηράς, εκ της Αιγύπτου, διά να ήσθε εις αυτόν λαός κληρονομίας ως την ημέραν ταύτην.
21 But, Yahweh shewed himself angry with me, for your sakes, —and sware that I should not pass over the Jordan, and that I should not enter into the good land, which, Yahweh thy God, is giving unto thee as an inheritance;
Και εθυμώθη εναντίον μου ο Κύριος εξ αιτίας σας και ώμοσε να μη διαβώ τον Ιορδάνην και να μη εισέλθω εις εκείνην την γην την αγαθήν, την οποίαν Κύριος ο Θεός σου δίδει εις σε κληρονομίαν·
22 for, I, am about to die in this land, I am not to pass over the Jordan, —but, ye, are to pass over, and possess this good land.
αλλ' εγώ αποθνήσκω εν τη γη ταύτη· εγώ δεν διαβαίνω τον Ιορδάνην· σεις δε θέλετε διαβή και θέλετε κληρονομήσει εκείνην την γην την αγαθήν.
23 Take heed to yourselves lest ye forget the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he hath solemnised with you, —and so make for yourselves an image, the form of anything, the which Yahweh thy God hath forbidden thee;
Προσέχετε εις εαυτούς, μήποτε λησμονήσητε την διαθήκην Κυρίου του Θεού σας, την οποίαν έκαμε προς εσάς, και κάμητε εις εαυτούς είδωλον, εικόνα τινός, το οποίον απηγόρευσε Κύριος ο Θεός σου.
24 seeing that as for Yahweh thy God, a consuming fire, he is, —a jealous GOD.
Διότι Κύριος ο Θεός σου είναι πυρ καταναλίσκον, Θεός ζηλότυπος.
25 When thou shalt beget sons, and sons’ sons, and become careless in the land and break faith and make an image the form of any thing, and shalt do the thing that is wicked in the eyes of Yahweh thy God provoking him to anger,
Εάν, αφού γεννήσης υιούς και υιούς υιών, και πολυχρονίσητε επί της γης, διαφθαρήτε και κάμητε είδωλον, εικόνα τινός, και πράξητε πονηρά ενώπιον Κυρίου του Θεού σου, ώστε να παροργίσητε αυτόν·
26 I take both the heavens and the earth to witness against you to-day, that ye shall, perish, speedily, from off the land which ye are passing over the Jordan to possess, —ye shall not prolong your days thereupon; for, ye shall surely be laid waste;
διαμαρτύρομαι τον ουρανόν και την γην εναντίον σας σήμερον, ότι εξάπαντος θέλετε απολεσθή από της γης, προς την οποίαν διαβαίνετε τον Ιορδάνην διά να κυριεύσητε αυτήν· δεν θέλετε πολυχρονίσει εν αυτή αλλ' εξ ολοκλήρου θέλετε αφανισθή.
27 and Yahweh will scatter you among the peoples, —and ye shall have left remaining of you men easily counted, among the nations whither Yahweh will drive you;
Και θέλει σας διασκορπίσει ο Κύριος μεταξύ των λαών, και θέλετε εναπολειφθή ολίγοι τον αριθμόν μεταξύ των εθνών, εις τα οποία σας φέρει ο Κύριος.
28 and ye will serve there gods made by the hands of man, —wood or stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.
Και θέλετε λατρεύσει εκεί θεούς, έργα χειρών ανθρώπων, ξύλον και λίθον, τα οποία ούτε βλέπουσιν ούτε ακούουσιν ούτε τρώγουσιν, ούτε οσφραίνονται.
29 If thou shalt seek from thence, Yahweh thy God, then shalt thou find him, —when thou shalt search after him with all thy heart, and with all thy soul.
Και εκείθεν θέλετε εκζητήσει Κύριον τον Θεόν σας και θέλετε ευρεί αυτόν, όταν εκζητήσητε αυτόν εξ όλης της καρδίας σας και εξ όλης της ψυχής σας.
30 In thy distress, when all these things have found thee out—in the afterpart of the days, thou wilt return unto Yahweh thy God, and wilt hearken to his voice.
Όταν ευρεθής εν θλίψει και σε εύρωσι πάντα ταύτα εν ταις εσχάταις ημέραις, τότε θέλεις επιστρέψει προς Κύριον τον Θεόν σου και θέλεις ακούσει την φωνήν αυτού.
31 For, a GOD of compassion, is Yahweh thy God, he will not forsake thee neither will he destroy thee, —nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.
Διότι Κύριος ο Θεός σου είναι Θεός οικτίρμων· δεν θέλει σε εγκαταλείψει ουδέ θέλει σε εξολοθρεύσει ουδέ θέλει λησμονήσει την διαθήκην των πατέρων σου, την οποίαν ώμοσε προς αυτούς.
32 For ask, I pray you, of the former days which were before thee, even from the day when God created man upon the earth, yea from one end of the heavens even to the other end of the heavens, —whether aught was ever brought to pass, like this great thing, or was ever heard of like it:
Διότι ερώτησον τώρα περί των προτέρων ημερών, αίτινες υπήρξαν πρότερόν σου, αφ' ης ημέρας εποίησεν ο Θεός τον άνθρωπον επί της γης, και ερώτησον απ' άκρου του ουρανού έως άκρου του ουρανού, αν εστάθη τι ως το μέγα τούτο πράγμα, αν ηκούσθη όμοιον αυτού.
33 Did a people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of fire, as, thou, didst hear, and yet live?
Ήκουσε ποτέ λαός την φωνήν του Θεού λαλούντος εκ μέσου του πυρός, καθώς συ ήκουσας, και έζησεν;
34 Or did a god ever make trial of entering in to take unto him a nation out of the midst of a nation, by provings, by signs and by wonders and by fighting, and by a firm hand and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terrors, —according to all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes?
Η εδοκίμασεν ο Θεός να έλθη να λάβη εις εαυτόν έθνος εκ μέσου άλλου έθνους με δοκιμασίας, με σημεία και με θαύματα και με πόλεμον και με κραταιάν χείρα και με εξηπλωμένον βραχίονα και με μεγάλα τέρατα, κατά πάντα όσα Κύριος ο Θεός σας έκαμε διά σας εν Αιγύπτω ενώπιον των οφθαλμών σου;
35 Thou, wast allowed to see that thou mightest know, that Yahweh, he is God, there is none other than he alone.
εις σε εδείχθη τούτο, διά να γνωρίσης ότι ο Κύριος, αυτός είναι ο Θεός· δεν είναι άλλος εκτός αυτού.
36 Out of the heavens, he let thee hear his voice to instruct thee, —and, upon the earth, he let thee see his great fire, and his own words, thou didst hear out of the midst of the fire.
Εκ του ουρανού σε έκαμε να ακούσης την φωνήν αυτού, διά να σε διδάξη· και επί της γης έδειξεν εις σε το πυρ αυτού το μέγα, και τους λόγους αυτού ήκουσας εκ μέσου του πυρός.
37 And because that he loved thy fathers, therefore chose he his seed after him, —and brought thee forth with his presence with his great might, out of Egypt;
Και επειδή ηγάπα τους πατέρας σου, διά τούτο εξέλεξε το σπέρμα αυτών μετ' αυτούς και σε εξήγαγεν έμπροσθεν αυτού εξ Αιγύπτου διά της κραταιάς αυτού δυνάμεως·
38 to dispossess nations, greater and stronger than thou from before thee, —to bring thee in. to give unto thee their land for an inheritance: As at this day.
διά να καταδιώξη απ' έμπροσθέν σου έθνη μεγαλήτερα και ισχυρότερά σου, διά να σε εισαγάγη, διά να σοι δώση την γην αυτών κληρονομίαν, καθώς την σήμερον.
39 So then thou must consider to-day, and bring it back to thy heart, that, Yahweh, he is God in the heavens above and upon the earth beneath, —there is none other.
Γνώρισον λοιπόν την ημέραν ταύτην και θες εν τη καρδία σου, ότι ο Κύριος, αυτός είναι Θεός, εν τω ουρανώ άνω και επί της γης κάτω· δεν είναι άλλος.
40 So shalt thou keep his statutes and his commandments which, I, am commanding thee to-day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy sons after thee, —and to the end thou mayest prolong thy days upon the soil, which Yahweh thy God, is giving thee, all the days.
Και φύλαττε τα διατάγματα αυτού και τας εντολάς αυτού, τας οποίας εγώ προστάζω εις σε σήμερον· διά να ευημερής συ και οι υιοί σου μετά σε και διά να μακροημερεύης επί της γης, την οποίαν Κύριος ο Θεός σου έδωκεν εις σε διαπαντός.
41 Then, did Moses set apart three cities, over the Jordan, —towards the rising of the sun:
Τότε ο Μωϋσής εξεχώρισε τρεις πόλεις εντεύθεν του Ιορδάνου προς ανατολάς ηλίου·
42 that the manslayer might flee thither who should slay his neighbour unawares, he, not having hated him, aforetime, —and might flee unto one of these cities, and live:
διά να φεύγη εκεί ο φονεύς, όστις φονεύση τον πλησίον αυτού εξ αγνοίας, χωρίς να μισή αυτόν πρότερον, και φεύγων εις μίαν τούτων των πόλεων να ζή·
43 namely Bezer, in the desert of the table-land, for the Reubenites, —and Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.
την Βοσόρ εν τη ερήμω εν τη πεδινή γη των Ρουβηνιτών και την Ραμώθ εν Γαλαάδ των Γαδιτών και την Γωλάν εν Βασάν των Μανασσιτών.
44 This, then is the law which Moses set before the sons of Israel:
Και ούτος είναι ο νόμος, τον οποίον έθεσεν ο Μωϋσής ενώπιον των υιών Ισραήλ·
45 These, are the testimonies, and the statutes and the regulations, —which Moses spake unto the sons of Israel when they came forth out of Egypt:
αύται είναι αι μαρτυρίαι και τα διατάγματα και αι κρίσεις, τας οποίας ελάλησεν ο Μωϋσής προς τους υιούς Ισραήλ, αφού εξήλθον εξ Αιγύπτου,
46 over the Jordan in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, —whom Moses and the sons of Israel smote, when they came forth out of Egypt:
εντεύθεν του Ιορδάνου, εν τη κοιλάδι κατέναντι του Βαιθ-φεγώρ, εν τη γη του Σηών βασιλέως των Αμορραίων, όστις κατώκει εν Εσεβών, τον οποίον επάταξεν ο Μωϋσής και οι υιοί Ισραήλ, αφού εξήλθον εξ Αιγύπτου·
47 so they took possession of his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan the two kings of the Amorites, who were over the Jordan, —towards the rising of the sun;
και εκυρίευσαν την γην αυτού και την γην του Ωγ βασιλέως της Βασάν, δύο βασιλέων των Αμορραίων, οίτινες ήσαν εντεύθεν του Ιορδάνου προς ανατολάς ηλίου·
48 from Aroer which is on the edge of the ravine of Arnon, even unto Mount Sion, the same, is Hermon;
από της Αροήρ, της παρά το χείλος του ποταμού Αρνών, έως του όρους Σηών, το οποίον είναι το Αερμών·
49 and all the waste plain over the Jordan, towards sunrise, even unto the sea of the waste plain, —under the slopes of the Pisgah.
και πάσαν την πεδινήν εντεύθεν του Ιορδάνου προς ανατολάς, έως της θαλάσσης της πεδιάδος, υποκάτω της Ασδώθ-φασγά.
