Zephaniah 3
1 Woe to the rebellious and unclean city of oppression,
Weh der abscheulichen, bedeckten Stadt, der quälerischen,
2 She has not obeyed the voice, she has not accepted instruction, In the Lord she has not trusted, to her God she has not drawn near.
die nie auf eine Warnung hört und keine Zucht annimmt, die nimmer auf den Herrn vertraut, die ihrem Gott sich nicht mehr naht!
3 Her rulers in her midst are roaring lions. Her judges are evening wolves, who leave nothing over until the morning,
In ihr sind ihre Fürsten brüllende Löwen und ihre Richter ausgezehrte Wölfe, die nicht auf den Morgen warten.
4 Her prophets are braggarts, faithless men. Her priests profane what is holy and do violence to the law.
Leichtfertig ihre Seher und des Truges Männer; und Heiliges entweihen ihre Priester, freveln an der Lehre.
5 The Lord is righteous in her midst, he does no wrong, Morning by morning he establishes his decree, Light is not lacking, an oversight is unknown. But the unjust know no shame.
Als ein Gerechter wohnt der Herr in ihr; er tut nichts Unrechtes. Allmorgendlich setzt er sein Rechtsverfahren an; beim Tagesgrauen läßt er sich nicht missen, und dabei weiß er gar nichts von schmachvollem Unrechttun.
6 ‘I have cut off nations, their turrets are destroyed; I have laid waste their broad streets, so that none passes over them. Desolate are their cities without people, without inhabitants.’
"Ich habe Heidenvölker ausgerottet; eingerissen wurden ihre Winkel. Verödet hab ich ihre Gassen, daß niemand sie durchzog, und ihre Städte wurden so zerstört, daß niemand mehr drin wohnte.
7 I said: ‘Surely the city will fear me, she will accept instruction. Nothing will vanish from her eyes that I have impressed upon her; But the more zealously have they made all their deeds corrupt.’
Da dachte ich, du fürchtetest mich jetzt, du nähmest Zucht an, daß nicht Zerstörung ihren Wohnsitz treffe, nicht alles das, womit ich ihr gedroht. Doch um so eifriger verdarben sie all ihre schlimmen Werke.
8 Wait for me, is the Lord’s message, until the day when I stand up as a witness, for it is my fixed purpose to gather the nations, to collect the kingdoms, to pour upon them my wrath and my hot anger; for by the fire of my fury will all the earth be consumed.
Doch wartet nur auf mich," ein Spruch des Herrn, "nur auf den Tag, da ich als Kläger mich erhebe! Mein Recht ist es, die Heidenvölker zu versammeln und Königreiche aufzubieten, um über jene meinen Grimm zu gießen, all meine Zornesgluten. Vom Feuer meines Zorneseifers soll das ganze Land gefressen werden.
9 For then I will purify the lips of all peoples, so that they will all call on the Lord’s name, to serve him with one accord.
Alsdann verleih ich wieder meinem Volke reine Lippen, daß sie alle den Namen ihres Herrn anrufen und ihn einmütig verehren.
10 From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers will bring me offerings.
Von jenseits her der Flüsse Äthiopiens, von Indien und Medien und Persien wird man mir Wohlgerüche als Geschenk darbringen.
11 On that day you will no longer be ashamed of all your deeds by which you rebelled against me. For I will rid you of your proudly arrogant ones, and you will never again be haughty on my holy mountain.
Du wirst an jenem Tag dich aller deiner Taten schämen, durch die du dich an mir vergangen; denn dann entferne ich die frechen Sünder aus deiner Mitte. Du bist dann nicht mehr voller Übermut auf meinem heiligen Berg.
12 But I will leave in your midst a people humble and poor, and the remnant of Israel will trust in the name of the Lord.
In deiner Mitte laß ich dann ein Volk noch übrig, demütig und gering. Sie nehmen zu des Herren Namen ihre Zuflucht.
13 They will not do evil, nor speak falsehood, and a deceitful tongue will not be found in their mouth; but they will pasture and lie down, and no one will make them afraid.
Wer übrigbleibt von Israel, der tut kein Unrecht mehr und spricht nicht Lügen. Kein trügerisches Wort ist mehr in ihrem Mund; sie können weiden und sich lagern und niemand schreckt sie auf."
14 Cry out with joy, daughter of Zion, shout aloud, Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, daughter of Jerusalem.
Frohlocke, Sionstochter! Israel, nun jauchze auf! Sei froh! Aus ganzem Herzen juble, Tochter du Jerusalem!
15 The Lord has put away your adversaries, he has turned away your foes; the Lord is king in your midst, you will fear evil no more.
Der Herr entfernte deine Richter; verschwinden ließ er deinen Feind. Der Herr ist wieder König über Israel in dir; dir widerfährt nichts Schlimmes mehr.
16 In that day it will be said to Jerusalem: Fear not! Zion, let not your hands grow weak!
An jenem Tage spricht man zu Jerusalem: "Fürchte dich nicht! Laß deine Hände, Sion, nimmer sinken!
17 The Lord your God is in your midst, a victorious hero. He will rejoice over you with joy, he will renew his love, he will exult over you with singing,
In deiner Mitte ist der Herr, dein Gott, der Held, der hilft. Er freut sich deiner wonnevoll, umfaßt mit Liebe dich, frohlockend, und jauchzt und jubelt über dich.
18 as on a day of festival. I will take away from you your disgrace, and put away from you your reproach.
Die Possen an dem Feste lasse ich bei dir verschwinden; sie waren eine schimpfliche Zugabe.
19 I will destroy at that time all who afflict you. I will deliver the lame, and gather the outcast, I will make them an object of renown and fame in all the earth.
Zu jener Zeit vernichte ich deine Bedränger alle. Dagegen rette ich das Lahme, sammle das Versprengte und bringe sie zu Ruhm und Ehre in allen Landen ihrer Schmach.
20 I will do good to you, at the time when I gather you. For I will make you an object of fame and renown among all the peoples of the earth; when I bring back your captivity before your eyes. This says the Lord.
In jener Zeit, da bringe ich euch heim. Die Zeit erscheint, da ich euch sammle. Ich bringe euch zu Ruhm und Ehre bei allen Erdenvölkern, wenn ich vor euren eigenen Augen wende eure Haft." So spricht der Herr.
