Habakkuk 1
1 The message seen by the prophet Habakkuk.
Das Gesicht, das Habakuk, der Prophet, geschaut:
2 How long, Lord, have I cried out and without you hearing me! I cry to you, ‘Violence!’ but you do not help.
Wie lange rufe ich um Hilfe, Herr? Doch Du hörst nicht auf mich. Und schreie ich zu Dir: "Bedrückung!" Du aber rettest nicht.
3 Why do you make me look upon wickedness and behold trouble? Destruction and violence are before my eyes, and fighting and quarrelling.
Warum läßt Du mich Unheil sehn und siehst dem Jammer zu? Warum steht Druck und Vergewaltigung mir vor den Augen? Warum erhebt sich Kampf und Krieg?
4 Therefore the law is weak, and justice is never rendered; for the wicked surround the righteous, so that justice is perverted.
Dadurch hört die Belehrung auf, und nimmer kommt das Glück zum Vorschein. Und weil ein Frevler den Gerechten umgarnt, drum kommt verkehrtes Recht heraus.
5 Look at the nations, look well, be shocked and amazed. For I am about to do a work in your days; you will not believe it when it is told.
Schaut auf die Heidenvölker! Blicket hin! Verwundert euch und staunt! In euren Tagen wirkt er eine Tat, die ihr nicht glaubtet, würde sie euch bloß berichtet.
6 For I am about to raise up the Chaldeans, a nation grim and quick of action who sweep over the whole breadth of the earth to seize dwellings not their own.
"Ich bin's, der die Chaldäer sich erheben läßt, das hitzige, das ungestüme Heidenvolk, das über Erdenweiten zieht, um fremde Wohnsitze sich zu erobern."
7 They bring fear and terror. They write their own rules.
So schrecklich ist's, so fürchterlich; sein Urteil und sein Unheil stammt von ihm.
8 Their horses are swifter than leopards, quicker than wolves hunting at dusk. From afar they come swooping down, like an eagle attacking its prey.
Und schneller als die Panther seine Pferde, kühner als die Steppenwölfe, und stolzen Ganges seine Rosse, seine Reiter; aus weiter Ferne kommen sie; sie fliegen wie die Adler, die zum Fraße eilen.
9 They all come to do violence, a horde like a desert wind, they gather up captives like sand.
Sie alle gehen auf Gewalttat aus, und Gier belebt die Blicke ihnen; wie Sand, so sammelt es Gefangene.
10 At kings they scoff, and princes are sport to them. They laugh at every fortress, and heap up earth to take it.
Und es verhöhnt die Könige, treibt Spott mit Fürsten. Es lacht auch aller Festungen; es schüttet einfach Erde auf und nimmt sie ein.
11 Then they sweep on like the wind, Their strength is their god.
Dann greift es stürmisch an und zieht hinein und handelt ruchlos. So ist denn seine Macht sein Gott.
12 Are you not eternal, Lord, my holy one, who does not die? Lord you have appointed them to execute judgment, my rock, you have established them to punish.
Bist Du nicht, Herr, von alten Zeiten her mein heiliger Gott, der niemals stirbt? Du hast ihn zum Gerichte, Herr, bestimmt, Du Fels, zum Strafen ihn gebildet.
13 Your eyes are too pure to look at evil, you cannot condone iniquity. So why do you regard the treacherous in silence, while the wicked swallows the upright?
Zu rein sind deine Augen, Böses anzuschauen. Nichts Arges kannst Du sehen. Wie siehst Du nunmehr Räubern schweigend zu, wenn Frevler die Unschuldigen verschlingen?
14 You have made people like the fish of the sea, like reptiles that have no ruler.
Wie machst Du Menschen Meeresfischen gleich und dem Gewürm, das keinen Herrn besitzt?
15 The wicked sweep them all into their nets, and gather them into their drag-nets, and rejoice and celebrate.
Sie alle holt es mit den Angeln ein und lockt sie in sein Garn und rafft sie in sein Netz. Darüber freut es sich und jubelt.
16 Therefore they sacrifice to their net, and burn offerings to their drag-net; for by their nets are their portions generous, and their food is rich.
Deswegen opfert es auch seinem Garn und räuchert seinem Netz. Denn fette Beute schaffen diese ihm und eine wohlbestellte Tafel.
17 Will they empty their nets continually, slaughter nations unpityingly?
Doch sollte es deshalb sein Garn entleeren, beständig Heidenvölker schonungslos abschlachten dürfen?
