< Romans 2 >

1 Therefore you are without excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment. For in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself. For you who judge practice the same things.
ⲁ̅ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲙⲛⲧⲕϣⲁϫⲉ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲉϫⲱ ⲱ ⲡⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲕⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡϩⲁⲡ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲕⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲕⲉⲟⲩⲁ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ⲕϭⲁⲓⲟ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲟⲩⲁⲁⲕ ⲕⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ϩⲱⲱⲕ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲡⲉⲧⲕⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ
2 Now we know that the judgment of God is in accordance with truth against those who practice such things.
ⲃ̅ⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ϫⲉ ⲡϩⲁⲡ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲙⲙⲉ ⲉϫⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲛⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲉⲉⲓⲙⲓⲛⲉ
3 And do you think this, you who judge those who practice such things, and do the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?
ⲅ̅ⲉⲕⲙⲉⲉⲩⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲡⲁⲓ ⲱ ⲡⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲕⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲉⲓϩⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲕⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ϫⲉ ⲕⲛⲁⲣⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲉⲡϩⲁⲡ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
4 Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
ⲇ̅ϫⲛ ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲉⲕⲕⲁⲧⲁⲫⲣⲟⲛⲓ ⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲣⲙⲙⲁⲟ ⲛⲧⲉϥⲙⲛⲧⲭⲣⲏⲥⲧⲟⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲧⲉϥⲁⲛⲟⲭⲏ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲛⲧϩⲁⲣϣϩⲏⲧ ⲉⲕⲟ ⲛⲁⲧⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲙⲛⲧⲭⲣⲏⲥⲧⲟⲥ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲉⲩⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓⲁ
5 But according to your hardness and unrepentant heart you are storing up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
ⲉ̅ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲉⲕⲛϣⲟⲧ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉⲕϩⲏⲧ ⲉⲧⲉⲛϥⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲕⲥⲱⲟⲩϩ ⲛⲁⲕ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲣⲅⲏ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲧⲟⲣⲅⲏ ⲙⲛ ⲡϭⲱⲗⲡ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡϩⲁⲡ ⲙⲙⲉ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
6 who "will pay back to everyone according to their works:"
ⲋ̅ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲛⲁⲧⲱⲱⲃⲉ ⲙⲡⲟⲩⲁ ⲡⲟⲩⲁ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲛⲉϥϩⲃⲏⲩⲉ
7 to those who by perseverance in good works seek glory and honor and immortality -- everlasting life. (aiōnios g166)
ⲍ̅ⲛⲉⲧϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲙⲉⲛ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲩⲡⲟⲙⲟⲛⲏ ⲙⲡϩⲱⲃ ⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲉⲧϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲡⲉⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲧⲁⲉⲓⲟ ⲙⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲁⲧⲧⲁⲕⲟ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ϣⲁ ⲉⲛⲉϩ (aiōnios g166)
8 But to those who are self-seeking, and do not obey the truth, but obey wickedness -- wrath and anger,
ⲏ̅ⲛⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲇⲉ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩϯⲧⲱⲛ ⲉⲧⲟ ⲛⲁⲧⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲧⲙⲉ ⲉⲧⲡⲓⲑⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲡϫⲓ ⲛϭⲟⲛⲥ ⲟⲩⲟⲣⲅⲏ ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩϭⲱⲛⲧ
9 affliction and distress, on every human being who does evil, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
ⲑ̅ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩⲑⲗⲓⲯⲓⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩⲗⲱϫϩ ⲉϫⲛ ⲯⲩⲭⲏ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲉⲧⲣϩⲱⲃ ⲉⲡⲡⲉⲑⲟⲟⲩ ⲧⲁ ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲛϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲟⲩⲉⲓⲉⲛⲓⲛ
10 But glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
ⲓ̅ⲡⲉⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲧⲁⲉⲓⲟ ⲙⲛ ϯⲣⲏⲛⲏ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲣϩⲱⲃ ⲉⲡⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲙⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲛϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲟⲩⲉⲓⲉⲛⲓⲛ
11 For there is no partiality with God.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲙⲛϫⲓϩⲟ ⲅⲁⲣ ϩⲁⲧⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
12 For as many as have sinned without the law will also perish without the law. As many as have sinned under the law will be judged by the law.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲛⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲣⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲁϫⲛ ⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲩⲛⲁϩⲉ ⲟⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲁϫⲛ ⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲣⲛⲟⲃⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲩⲛⲁⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ
13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲛⲉⲧⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲉ ⲛⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲛⲛⲁϩⲣⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲉⲧⲟⲩⲛⲁⲧⲙⲁⲉⲓⲟⲟⲩ
14 For when the non-Jews who do not have the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law to themselves,
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ϩⲟⲧⲁⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛϩⲉⲑⲛⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲉⲙⲛⲧⲟⲩ ⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲫⲩⲥⲉⲓ ⲥⲉⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲛⲁ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲉⲙⲛⲧⲟⲩ ⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲥⲉϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲛⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲙⲁⲩⲁⲁⲩ
15 since they show the work of the law written on their hearts, their conscience bearing witness, and their thoughts either accusing or defending them,
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲩⲧⲟⲩⲟ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲉⲡϩⲱⲃ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉϥⲥⲏϩ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲩϩⲏⲧ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲩⲥⲩⲛⲓⲇⲏⲥⲓⲥ ⲣⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲙⲏⲧⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲩⲙⲟⲕⲙⲉⲕ ϩⲓ ⲟⲩⲥⲟⲡ ⲉⲩⲅⲁⲧⲏⲅⲟⲣⲓ ⲏ ⲟⲛ ⲉⲩⲟⲩⲱϩⲙ
16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of people, according to my Good News, by Meshikha Yeshua.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ϩⲙ ⲡⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲉⲣⲉⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲛⲁⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉⲑⲏⲡ ⲛⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲁⲉⲩⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲓⲟⲛ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ
17 But if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on the law, and boast in God,
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲩⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ϫⲉ ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲕⲙⲧⲟⲛ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲕϣⲟⲩϣⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
18 and know his will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law,
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲕⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲕⲇⲟⲕⲓⲙⲁⲍⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲣⲛⲟϥⲣⲉ ⲉⲩⲧⲥⲁⲃⲟ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ
19 and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲉⲕⲛⲁϩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ϫⲉ ⲉⲕⲟ ⲛϫⲁⲩⲙⲟⲉⲓⲧ ⲛⲛⲃⲗⲗⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓⲛ ⲛⲛⲉⲧϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲁⲕⲉ
20 a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth.
ⲕ̅ⲛⲣⲉϥϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ⲛⲁⲑⲏⲧ ⲛⲥⲁϩ ⲛⲛϣⲏⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ⲉⲩⲛⲧⲁⲕ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲙⲡϩⲣⲃ ⲙⲡⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲧⲙⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ
21 You therefore who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲡⲉⲧϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ϭⲉ ⲛⲕⲉⲟⲩⲁ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲟⲩ ⲛⲅϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ⲛⲁⲕ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲧⲁϣⲉⲟⲉⲓϣ ϫⲉ ⲙⲡⲣϫⲓ ⲟⲩⲉ ⲕϫⲓⲟⲩⲉ
22 You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who detest idols, do you rob temples?
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲡⲉⲧϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲙⲡⲣⲣⲛⲟⲉⲓⲕ ⲕⲟ ⲛⲛⲟⲉⲓⲕ ⲡⲉⲧϥⲱⲧⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲓⲇⲱⲗⲟⲛ ⲕϣⲱⲗ ⲛⲛⲉⲣⲡⲏⲩⲉ
23 You who boast in the law, do you, by disobeying the law, dishonor God?
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲉⲕϣⲟⲩϣⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲧⲣⲉⲕⲡⲁⲣⲁⲃⲁ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲕⲥⲱϣ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
24 For because of you the name of God is blasphemed among the nations, just as it is written.
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲡⲣⲁⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲩϫⲓⲟⲩⲁ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϩⲛ ⲛϩⲉⲑⲛⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲧⲥⲏϩ
25 For circumcision indeed profits, if you are a doer of the law, but if you are a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ⲡⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲣⲛⲟϥⲣⲉ ⲉⲕϣⲁⲛⲣ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲕ ⲟⲩⲡⲁⲣⲁⲃⲁⲧⲏⲥ ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲡⲉⲕⲥⲃⲃⲉ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲙⲙⲛⲧⲁⲧⲥⲃⲃⲉ
26 If therefore the uncircumcised keep the requirements of the law, won't his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision?
ⲕ̅ⲋ̅ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ϭⲉ ⲉⲣϣⲁⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲁⲧⲥⲃⲃⲉ ϩⲁⲣⲉϩ ⲉⲛⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲱⲙⲁ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲛⲥⲉⲛⲁⲉⲡ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲛⲧⲁⲧⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲉⲩⲥⲃⲃⲉ
27 Won't the uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfills the law, judge you, who with the letter and circumcision are a transgressor of the law?
ⲕ̅ⲍ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲙⲛⲧⲁⲧⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲧⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉⲫⲩⲥⲓⲥ ⲉⲁⲥϫⲉⲕ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲥⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲡⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲉⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲉⲧⲟ ⲙⲡⲁⲣⲁⲃⲁⲧⲏⲥ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ
28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh;
ⲕ̅ⲏ̅ⲙⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲟⲛϩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲟⲛϩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲥⲁⲣⲝ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲥⲃⲃⲉ
29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, by the Rukha, not in the letter; whose praise is not from people, but from God.
