< John 13 >

1 Now before the feast of the Passover, Yeshua, knowing that his time had come that he would depart from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
ⲁ̅ϩⲁ ⲑⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡϣⲁ ⲙⲡⲡⲁⲥⲭⲁ ⲉϥⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲧⲉϥⲟⲩⲛⲟⲩ ⲉⲓ ϫⲉ ⲉϥⲉⲡⲱⲱⲛⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲛϥⲃⲱⲕ ϣⲁ ⲡⲓⲱⲧ ⲉⲁϥⲙⲉⲣⲉ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲛⲉ ⲉⲧϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲁϥⲙⲉⲣⲓⲧⲟⲩ ϣⲁⲃⲟⲗ
2 And during the meal, the devil had already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him.
ⲃ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉⲟⲩⲇⲓⲡⲛⲟⲛ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲁⲡⲇⲓⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲟⲩⲱ ⲉϥⲛⲟⲩϫⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲡϩⲏⲧ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲥ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲥⲓⲙⲱⲛ ⲡⲓⲥⲕⲁⲣⲓⲱⲧⲏⲥ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉϥⲉⲡⲁⲣⲁⲇⲓⲇⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ
3 Because he knew that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and was going to God,
ⲅ̅ⲉϥⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲡⲓⲱⲧ ϯ ⲛⲕⲁ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲛⲉϥϭⲓϫ ⲁⲩⲱ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉϥⲛⲁ ⲉⲣⲁⲧϥ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
4 arose from the meal, and removed his outer garments. He took a towel, and wrapped a towel around his waist.
ⲇ̅ⲁϥⲧⲱⲟⲩⲛϥ ϩⲙ ⲡⲇⲉⲓⲡⲛⲟⲛ ⲁϥⲕⲁ ⲛⲉϥϩⲟⲓⲧⲉ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲁϥϫⲓ ⲛⲟⲩⲗⲉⲛⲧⲓⲟⲛ ⲁϥⲙⲟⲣϥ ⲙⲙⲟϥ
5 Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
ⲉ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲛⲉϫ ⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲗⲉⲕⲁⲛⲏ ⲁϥⲁⲣⲭⲓ ⲛⲉⲓⲱ ⲛⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏⲧⲉ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉϥⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲗⲉⲛⲧⲓⲟⲛ ⲉⲧⲙⲏⲣ ⲙⲙⲟϥ
6 Then he came to Shimon Kipha. He said to him, "Lord, do you wash my feet?"
ⲋ̅ⲁϥⲉⲓ ϭⲉ ϣⲁ ⲥⲓⲙⲱⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲡⲏ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲉⲓⲁ ⲛⲁⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏⲧⲉ
7 Yeshua answered him, "You do not know what I am doing now, but you will understand later."
ⲍ̅ⲁⲓⲥ ⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉϯⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲛⲅⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲁⲛ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲱⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲕⲛⲁⲉⲓⲙⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ
8 Kipha said to him, "You will never wash my feet." Yeshua answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with me." (aiōn g165)
ⲏ̅ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲛⲁⲕⲁⲁⲕ ⲉⲉⲓⲁ ⲣⲁⲧ ⲉⲛⲉϩ ⲁⲓⲥ ⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲓⲧⲙⲉⲓⲁ ⲣⲁⲧⲕ ⲙⲛⲧⲕ ⲙⲉⲣⲟⲥ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲓ (aiōn g165)
9 Shimon Kipha said to him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head."
ⲑ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲥⲓⲙⲱⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲟⲩ ⲙⲟⲛⲟⲛ ⲛⲁⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏⲧⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲉⲓⲁ ⲛⲁⲕⲉϭⲓϫ ⲙⲛ ⲧⲁⲁⲡⲉ
10 Yeshua said to him, "Someone who has bathed only needs to have his feet washed, but is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you."
ⲓ̅ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲓⲥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥϫⲱⲕⲙ ⲛϥⲣ ⲭⲣⲓⲁ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲓⲙⲏⲧⲓ ⲉⲓⲁ ⲛⲉϥⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏⲧⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϥⲧⲃⲃⲏⲩ ⲧⲏⲣϥ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ϩⲱⲧⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲧⲃⲃⲏⲩ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲛⲧⲏⲣⲧⲛ ⲁⲛ
11 For he knew him who would betray him, therefore he said, "You are not all clean."
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲛⲉϥⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲙⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲡⲁⲣⲁⲇⲓⲇⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲁϥϫⲟⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲧⲃⲃⲏⲩ ⲁⲛ ⲧⲏⲣⲧⲛ
12 So when he had washed their feet, put his outer garment back on, and sat down again, he said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥⲟⲩⲱ ϭⲉ ⲉϥⲉⲓⲱ ⲛⲛⲉϥⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏⲧⲉ ⲁϥϫⲓ ⲛⲉϥϩⲟⲓⲧⲉ ⲁϥⲛⲟϫϥ ⲟⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲓⲁⲁϥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ
13 You call me, 'Teacher' and 'Lord.' You say so correctly, for so I am.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲉⲓ ϫⲉ ⲡⲥⲁϩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲕⲁⲗⲱⲥ ⲧⲉⲧⲛϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲡⲉ
14 If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ϭⲉ ⲁⲓⲁ ⲛⲉⲧⲛⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏⲧⲉ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲥⲁϩ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ϩⲱⲧⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ϣϣⲉ ⲉⲣⲱⲧⲛ ⲉⲉⲓⲁ ⲣⲁⲧⲟⲩ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲛⲉⲣⲏⲩ
15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲟⲩⲥⲙⲟⲧ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲓⲧⲁⲁϥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲓⲁⲁⲥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲉⲁⲁⲥ ϩⲱⲧⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ
16 Truly, truly, I tell you, a servant is not greater than his master, neither one who is sent greater than he who sent him.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ϩⲁⲙⲏⲛ ϩⲁⲙⲏⲛ ϯϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ϫⲉ ⲙⲛ ϩⲙϩⲁⲗ ⲉⲛⲁⲁⲁϥ ⲉⲡⲉϥϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ⲙⲛⲁⲡⲟⲥⲧⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲉⲛⲁⲁⲁϥ ⲉⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥⲧⲁⲟⲩⲟϥ
17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲛⲁⲓ ⲛⲁⲓⲁⲧⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛϣⲁⲁⲁⲩ
18 I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen. But that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'He who ate my bread has lifted up his heel against me.'
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲛⲉⲉⲓϫⲉⲣⲱⲧⲛ ⲧⲏⲣⲧⲛ ⲁⲛ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲉⲧⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲛⲉⲛⲧⲁⲓⲥⲟⲧⲡⲟⲩ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲅⲣⲁⲫⲏ ϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲟⲩⲱⲙ ⲙⲡⲁⲟⲓⲕ ⲁϥϥⲓ ⲡⲉϥϯⲃⲥ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲱⲉⲓ
19 I am telling you this now before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe that I am he.
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ϫⲓⲛ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ϯϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲉⲙⲡⲁⲧϥϣⲱⲡⲉ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲉⲡⲓⲥⲧⲉⲩⲉ ⲉϥϣⲁⲛϣⲱⲡⲉ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ
20 Truly, truly, I tell you, he who receives whomever I send, receives me; and he who receives me, receives him who sent me."
ⲕ̅ϩⲁⲙⲏⲛ ϩⲁⲙⲏⲛ ϯϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲧϫⲓ ⲙⲡⲉϯⲛⲁⲧⲛⲛⲟⲟⲩϥ ⲉϥϫⲓ ⲙⲙⲟⲉⲓ ⲡⲉⲧϫⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲓ ⲉϥϫⲓ ⲙⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥⲧⲁⲟⲩⲟⲓ
21 When Yeshua had said this, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, "Truly, truly, I tell you that one of you will betray me."
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲛⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥϫⲟⲟⲩ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ⲁϥϣⲧⲟⲣⲧⲣ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲣ ⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ϩⲁⲙⲏⲛ ϩⲁⲙⲏⲛ ϯϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲁ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϩⲏⲧⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲡⲁⲣⲁⲇⲓⲇⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟⲓ
22 The disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom he spoke.
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲛⲉⲩϭⲱϣⲧ ϭⲉ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉⲩⲉⲣⲏⲩ ⲛϭⲓ ⲙⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲉⲩⲁⲡⲟⲣⲓ ϫⲉ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲛⲓⲙ
23 One of his disciples, whom Yeshua loved, was reclining against Yeshua's chest.
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲛⲉⲩⲛ ⲟⲩⲁ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉϥⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲉϥⲛⲏϫ ⲉⲕⲟⲩⲛϥ ⲛⲓⲥ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲣⲉⲓⲥ ⲙⲉ ⲙⲙⲟϥ
24 Shimon Kipha therefore motioned to him to inquire who it was he was talking about.
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲁϥϫⲱⲣⲙ ϭⲉ ⲟⲩⲃⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲛϭⲓ ⲥⲓⲙⲱⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ ⲉϫⲛⲟⲩϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲡⲉⲧϥϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ
25 He, leaning back, as he was, on Yeshua's chest, asked him, "Lord, who is it?"
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ⲁⲡⲏ ϭⲉ ⲛⲟϫϥ ⲉϫⲛ ⲧⲙⲉⲥⲑⲏⲧ ⲛⲓⲥ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲡⲉ
26 Yeshua therefore answered, "It is he to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it." So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Yehudah, the son of Shimon Sekariuta.
ⲕ̅ⲋ̅ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉϯⲛⲁⲥⲉⲡ ⲡⲟⲉⲓⲕ ⲧⲁⲧⲁⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ⲡⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥⲥⲉⲡ ⲡⲟⲓⲕ ⲇⲉ ⲁϥⲧⲁⲁϥ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲥ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲥⲓⲙⲱⲛ ⲡⲓⲥⲕⲁⲣⲓⲱⲧⲏⲥ
27 After the piece of bread, then Satana entered into him. Then Yeshua said to him, "What you do, do quickly."
ⲕ̅ⲍ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲁ ⲧⲣⲉϥϫⲓ ⲡⲟⲓⲕ ⲁⲡⲥⲁⲧⲁⲛⲁⲥ ⲃⲱⲕ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϭⲉ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲕⲛⲁⲁⲁϥ ⲁⲣⲓϥ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩϭⲉⲡⲏ
28 Now none of those reclining knew why he said this to him.
ⲕ̅ⲏ̅ⲙⲡⲉⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲛⲏϫ ⲉⲓⲙⲉ ϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲟⲩ ⲁϥϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲛⲁϥ
29 For some thought, because Yehudah had the money box, that Yeshua said to him, "Buy what things we need for the feast," or that he should give something to the poor.
ⲕ̅ⲑ̅ⲛⲉⲣⲉϩⲟⲓⲛⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲙⲉⲩⲉ ϫⲉ ⲉⲡⲓⲇⲏ ⲡⲉⲅⲗⲱⲥⲥⲟⲕⲟⲙⲟⲛ ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲓⲥ ϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ϣⲉⲡ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲣ ⲭⲣⲓⲁ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲉⲡϣⲁ ⲏ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲉⲓⲉϯ ⲛⲛϩⲏⲕⲉ
30 Therefore, having received the piece of bread, he went out immediately; and it was night.
ⲗ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥϫⲓ ϭⲉ ⲙⲡⲟⲉⲓⲕ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲏ ⲛⲧⲉⲩⲛⲟⲩ ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲩϣⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲧⲉ
31 When he had gone out, Yeshua said, "Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him.
ⲗ̅ⲁ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥⲉⲓ ϭⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ⲁϥϫⲓ ⲉⲟⲟⲩ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ϫⲓ ⲉⲟⲟⲩ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
32 If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him at once.

33 Little children, I will be with you a little while longer. You will seek me, and as I said to the Jewish leaders, 'Where I am going, you cannot come,' so now I tell you.
ⲗ̅ⲅ̅ⲛⲁϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲉⲧⲓ ⲕⲉⲕⲟⲩⲓ ⲡⲉϯ ⲛⲙⲙⲏⲧⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲁϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲥⲱⲉⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲓϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲛⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ϫⲉ ⲡⲙⲁ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲉϯⲛⲁⲃⲱⲕ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲁϣ ⲉⲓ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϯϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ϩⲱⲧⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also must love one another.

36 Shimon Kipha said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Yeshua answered, "Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow afterwards."
