Psalms 76

1 “To the chief musician on Neginoth, a psalm or song of Assaph.” In Judah hath God been made known: in Israel is his name great.

Voor muziekbegeleiding; met harpen. Een psalm van Asaf; een lied. God heeft Zich in Juda doen kennen, Ontzaglijk is in Israël zijn Naam!

2 And in Salem was his tabernacle made, and his dwelling-place in Zion.

Zijn tent staat in Sjalem, Zijn woning op Sion:

3 There broke he the shining arrows of the bow, shield, and sword, and battle. (Selah)

Daar sloeg Hij de schichten van de boog, Schild en zwaard en strijdknots stuk!

4 Thou art more brilliant, more excellent than the mountains [full] of prey.

Vol majesteit straalt Gij Uit de eeuwige bergen

5 Bereft of reason are the stouthearted, they slumber their sleep: and none of the men of might have found [the use of] their hands.

Kloeke harten werden ontmoedigd en vielen in slaap, De arm ontzonk alle dappere strijders;

6 From thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, lie in deep sleep both chariot and horse.

God van Jakob, door uw dreigen Werden ruiters en paarden versuft.

7 Thou—thou art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thy anger [is kindled]?

Geweldig zijt Gij! Wie houdt voor U stand, Als uw toorn is ontstoken?

8 From heaven hast thou caused [thy] sentence to be heard: the earth feared, and became still,

Toen Gij uit de hemel uw vonnis deedt horen, Werd de aarde stil van ontzetting:

9 When God rose to judgment, to save all the lowly of the earth. (Selah)

Toen Gij opstondt ten oordeel, o God, Om alle ongelukkigen in het Land te redden.

10 For the fury of man shall praise thee: the remainder of the fury wilt thou gird about thee.

Alle stammen der mensen moeten U prijzen, Wat uw toorn heeft gespaard, U feestelijk loven!

11 Make vows, and pay [them] unto the Lord your God, all ye that are round about him: let men bring presents unto him that exciteth fear.

Doet geloften aan Jahweh, uw God, en blijft ze trouw, Brengt Hem geschenken, gij allen, die rond Hem moogt wonen:

12 He will cut down the spirit of the powerful: he is terrible to the kings of the earth.

Den Geweldige, die de hoogmoed der vorsten vernedert, Die door de koningen der aarde wordt gevreesd!
