James 1
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
Santiago, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, a las doce tribus que están en la dispersión: salud.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when all of you fall into divers temptations;
Tenedlo, hermanos míos, por sumo gozo, cuando cayereis en pruebas de todo género,
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience.
sabiendo que la prueba de vuestra fe produce paciencia.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that all of you may be perfect and entire, lacking nothing.
Pero es necesario que la paciencia produzca obra perfecta, para que seáis perfectos y cabales sin que os falte cosa alguna.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and reproaches not; and it shall be given him.
Si alguno de vosotros está desprovisto de sabiduría, pídala a Dios, que a todos da liberalmente sin echarlo en cara, y le será dada.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
Mas pida con fe, sin vacilar en nada; porque quien vacila es semejante a la ola del mar que se agita al soplar el viento.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
Un hombre así no piense que recibirá cosa alguna del Señor.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
El varón doble es inconstante en todos sus caminos.
9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
Gloríese el hermano: el humilde, por su elevación;
10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
el rico, empero, por su humillación, porque pasará como la flor del heno:
11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withers the grass, and the flower thereof falls, and the grace of the fashion of it perishes: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
se levanta el sol con su ardor, se seca el heno, cae su flor, y se acaba la belleza de su apariencia. Así también el rico se marchitará en sus caminos.
12 Blessed is the man that endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love him.
Bienaventurado el varón que soporta la tentación porque, una vez probado, recibirá la corona de vida que el Señor tiene prometida a los que le aman.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempts he any man:
Nadie cuando es tentado diga: “Es Dios quien me tienta”. Porque Dios, no pudiendo ser tentado al mal, no tienta Él tampoco a nadie.
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Cada uno es tentado por su propia concupiscencia, cuando se deja arrastrar y seducir.
15 Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.
Después la concupiscencia, habiendo concebido, pare pecado; y el pecado consumado engendra muerte.
16 Do not go astray, my beloved brethren.
No os engañéis, hermanos míos carísimos:
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
De lo alto es todo bien que recibimos y todo don perfecto, descendiendo del Padre de las luces, en quien no hay mudanza ni sombra ( resultante ) de variación.
18 Of his own will brings forth he us with the word (logos) of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures.
De su propia voluntad Él nos engendró por la palabra de la verdad, para que seamos como primicias de sus creaturas.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
Ya lo sabéis, queridos hermanos. Mas todo hombre ha de estar pronto para oír, tardo para hablar, tardo para airarse;
20 For the wrath of man works not the righteousness of God.
porque ira de hombre no obra justicia de Dios.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and abundance of evil, and receive with meekness the implanted word, (logos) which is able to save your souls.
Por lo cual, deshaciéndoos de toda mancha y resto de malicia, recibid en suavidad la palabra ingerida ( en vosotros ) que tiene el poder de salvar vuestras almas.
22 But be all of you doers of the word, (logos) and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Pero haceos ejecutores de la palabra, y no oidores solamente, engañándoos a vosotros mismos.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, (logos) and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
Pues si uno oye la palabra y no la practica, ese tal es semejante a un hombre que mira en un espejo los rasgos de su rostro:
24 For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and immediately forgets what manner of man he was.
se mira, y se aleja ( del espejo ), y al instante se olvida de cómo era.
25 But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Mas el que persevera en mirar atentamente la ley perfecta, la de la libertad, no como oyente olvidadizo, sino practicándola efectivamente, este será bienaventurado en lo que hace.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
Si alguno se cree piadoso y no refrena su lengua, sino que engaña su corazón, vana es su piedad.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
La piedad pura e inmaculada ante el Dios y Padre es esta: visitar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en su tribulación y preservarse de la contaminación del mundo.
