Luke 14
1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath day, that they watched him.
ある安息日のこと、食事をするために、あるパリサイ派のかしらの家にはいって行かれたが、人々はイエスの様子をうかがっていた。
2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.
するとそこに、水腫をわずらっている人が、みまえにいた。
3 And Yahushua answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day?
イエスは律法学者やパリサイ人たちにむかって言われた、「安息日に人をいやすのは、正しいことかどうか」。
4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;
彼らは黙っていた。そこでイエスはその人に手を置いていやしてやり、そしてお帰しになった。
5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the Sabbath day?
それから彼らに言われた、「あなたがたのうちで、自分のむすこか牛が井戸に落ち込んだなら、安息日だからといって、すぐに引き上げてやらない者がいるだろうか」。
6 And they could not answer him again to these things.
彼らはこれに対して返す言葉がなかった。
7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,
客に招かれた者たちが上座を選んでいる様子をごらんになって、彼らに一つの譬を語られた。
8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;
「婚宴に招かれたときには、上座につくな。あるいは、あなたよりも身分の高い人が招かれているかも知れない。
9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.
その場合、あなたとその人とを招いた者がきて、『このかたに座を譲ってください』と言うであろう。そのとき、あなたは恥じ入って末座につくことになるであろう。
10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
むしろ、招かれた場合には、末座に行ってすわりなさい。そうすれば、招いてくれた人がきて、『友よ、上座の方へお進みください』と言うであろう。そのとき、あなたは席を共にするみんなの前で、面目をほどこすことになるであろう。
11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
おおよそ、自分を高くする者は低くされ、自分を低くする者は高くされるであろう」。
12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
また、イエスは自分を招いた人に言われた、「午餐または晩餐の席を設ける場合には、友人、兄弟、親族、金持の隣り人などは呼ばぬがよい。恐らく彼らもあなたを招きかえし、それであなたは返礼を受けることになるから。
13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
むしろ、宴会を催す場合には、貧乏人、不具者、足なえ、盲人などを招くがよい。
14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
そうすれば、彼らは返礼ができないから、あなたはさいわいになるであろう。正しい人々の復活の際には、あなたは報いられるであろう」。
15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of YHWH.
列席者のひとりがこれを聞いてイエスに「神の国で食事をする人は、さいわいです」と言った。
16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
そこでイエスが言われた、「ある人が盛大な晩餐会を催して、大ぜいの人を招いた。
17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
晩餐の時刻になったので、招いておいた人たちのもとに僕を送って、『さあ、おいでください。もう準備ができましたから』と言わせた。
18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
ところが、みんな一様に断りはじめた。最初の人は、『わたしは土地を買いましたので、行って見なければなりません。どうぞ、おゆるしください』と言った。
19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
ほかの人は、『わたしは五対の牛を買いましたので、それをしらべに行くところです。どうぞ、おゆるしください』、
20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
もうひとりの人は、『わたしは妻をめとりましたので、参ることができません』と言った。
21 So that servant came, and shewed his master these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
僕は帰ってきて、以上の事を主人に報告した。すると家の主人はおこって僕に言った、『いますぐに、町の大通りや小道へ行って、貧乏人、不具者、盲人、足なえなどを、ここへ連れてきなさい』。
22 And the servant said, Master, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
僕は言った、『ご主人様、仰せのとおりにいたしましたが、まだ席がございます』。
23 And the master said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
主人が僕に言った、『道やかきねのあたりに出て行って、この家がいっぱいになるように、人々を無理やりにひっぱってきなさい。
24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
あなたがたに言って置くが、招かれた人で、わたしの晩餐にあずかる者はひとりもないであろう』」。
25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
大ぜいの群衆がついてきたので、イエスは彼らの方に向いて言われた、
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
「だれでも、父、母、妻、子、兄弟、姉妹、さらに自分の命までも捨てて、わたしのもとに来るのでなければ、わたしの弟子となることはできない。
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
自分の十字架を負うてわたしについて来るものでなければ、わたしの弟子となることはできない。
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
あなたがたのうちで、だれかが邸宅を建てようと思うなら、それを仕上げるのに足りるだけの金を持っているかどうかを見るため、まず、すわってその費用を計算しないだろうか。
29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
そうしないと、土台をすえただけで完成することができず、見ているみんなの人が、
30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
『あの人は建てかけたが、仕上げができなかった』と言ってあざ笑うようになろう。
31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
また、どんな王でも、ほかの王と戦いを交えるために出て行く場合には、まず座して、こちらの一万人をもって、二万人を率いて向かって来る敵に対抗できるかどうか、考えて見ないだろうか。
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
もし自分の力にあまれば、敵がまだ遠くにいるうちに、使者を送って、和を求めるであろう。
33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
それと同じように、あなたがたのうちで、自分の財産をことごとく捨て切るものでなくては、わたしの弟子となることはできない。
34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
塩は良いものだ。しかし、塩もききめがなくなったら、何によって塩味が取りもどされようか。
35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
土にも肥料にも役立たず、外に投げ捨てられてしまう。聞く耳のあるものは聞くがよい」。
