Psalms 44
1 For the Leader; a Psalm of the sons of Korah. Maschil. O God, we have heard with our ears, our fathers have told us; a work Thou didst in their days, in the days of old.
Przewodnikowi chóru. Psalm pouczający dla synów Korego. Boże, słyszeliśmy na własne uszy, nasi ojcowie opowiadali nam o tym, czego dokonałeś za ich dni, w czasach dawnych.
2 Thou with Thy hand didst drive out the nations, and didst plant them in; Thou didst break the peoples, and didst spread them abroad.
Ty własną ręką wypędziłeś pogan, a ich osadziłeś; wyniszczyłeś narody, a ich rozprzestrzeniłeś.
3 For not by their own sword did they get the land in possession, neither did their own arm save them; but Thy right hand, and Thine arm, and the light of Thy countenance, because Thou wast favourable unto them.
Nie zdobyli bowiem ziemi swym mieczem ani ich nie wybawiło własne ramię, lecz twoja prawica i twoje ramię, i światło twego oblicza, bo upodobałeś ich sobie.
4 Thou art my King, O God; command the salvation of Jacob.
Ty jesteś moim Królem, o Boże; daj wybawienie Jakubowi.
5 Through Thee do we push down our adversaries; through Thy name do we tread them under that rise up against us.
Dzięki tobie pokonamy naszych wrogów, w twoje imię zdepczemy naszych przeciwników.
6 For I trust not in my bow, neither can my sword save me.
Nie zaufam bowiem mojemu łukowi i nie wybawi mnie mój miecz;
7 But Thou hast saved us from our adversaries, and hast put them to shame that hate us.
Lecz ty nas wybawiłeś od naszych wrogów i zawstydziłeś tych, którzy nas nienawidzą.
8 In God have we gloried all the day, and we will give thanks unto Thy name for ever. (Selah)
Każdego dnia chlubimy się Bogiem, a twoje imię będziemy sławić na wieki. (Sela)
9 Yet Thou hast cast off, and brought us to confusion; and goest not forth with our hosts.
[Teraz] jednak odrzuciłeś nas i zawstydziłeś, i nie wyruszasz z naszymi wojskami.
10 Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary; and they that hate us spoil at their will.
Sprawiłeś, że cofnęliśmy się przed wrogiem, a ci, którzy nas nienawidzą, złupili nas.
11 Thou hast given us like sheep to be eaten; and hast scattered us among the nations.
Wydałeś nas na rzeź jak owce i rozproszyłeś nas wśród pogan.
12 Thou sellest Thy people for small gain, and hast not set their prices high.
Sprzedałeś swój lud za bezcen i nie zyskałeś na jego sprzedaży.
13 Thou makest us a taunt to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
Wystawiłeś nas na wzgardę naszym sąsiadom, na szyderstwo i pośmiewisko tym, którzy nas otaczają.
14 Thou makest us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.
Uczyniłeś nas tematem przysłowia wśród pogan, tak że narody kiwają głowami nad nami.
15 All the day is my confusion before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
Mój wstyd wciąż jest przede mną, a hańba mi twarz okrywa;
16 For the voice of him that taunteth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and the revengeful.
Na głos tego, który gardzi i bluźni, z powodu wroga i mściciela.
17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten Thee, neither have we been false to Thy covenant.
To wszystko nas spotkało, a [jednak] nie zapomnieliśmy o tobie ani nie naruszyliśmy twojego przymierza.
18 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from Thy path;
Nasze serce się nie odwróciło ani nasze kroki nie zboczyły z twej ścieżki;
19 Though Thou hast crushed us into a place of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death.
Chociaż powaliłeś nas w miejscu smoków i okryłeś nas cieniem śmierci.
20 If we had forgotten the name of our God, or spread forth our hands to a strange god;
Gdybyśmy zapomnieli imienia naszego Boga i wyciągnęli ręce do obcego boga;
21 Would not God search this out? For He knoweth the secrets of the heart.
Czyż Bóg by się o tym nie dowiedział? Przecież on zna tajniki serca.
22 Nay, but for Thy sake are we killed all the day; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Lecz z powodu ciebie przez cały dzień nas zabijają, uważają nas za owce przeznaczone na rzeź.
23 Awake, why sleepest Thou, O Lord? Arouse Thyself, cast not off for ever.
Ocknij się; czemu śpisz, Panie? Obudź się, nie odrzucaj nas na wieki.
24 Wherefore hidest Thou Thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
Czemu ukrywasz swoje oblicze i zapominasz o naszym utrapieniu i ucisku?
25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
Nasza dusza bowiem pogrążyła się w prochu, nasz brzuch przylgnął do ziemi.
26 Arise for our help, and redeem us for Thy mercy's sake.
Powstań nam na pomoc, odkup nas ze względu na twoje miłosierdzie.
