Job 5
1 Call now; is there any that will answer thee? And to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn?
Llama, pues, si hay quien te responda. ¿A cuál de los santos te dirigirás?
2 For anger killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.
Porque al necio le mata la cólera, y al fatuo la envidia.
3 I have seen the foolish taking root; but suddenly I beheld his habitation cursed.
Yo vi al necio echar raíces, y al instante maldije su morada.
4 His children are far from safety, and are crushed in the gate, with none to deliver them.
Sus hijos no podrán prosperar; hollados serán en la puerta, sin haber quien los libre.
5 Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the snare gapeth for their substance.
Su cosecha la devoran los hambrientos, la hurtan detrás (del cerco) de espinos; y los sedientos se sorben su riqueza.
6 For affliction cometh not forth from the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;
Pues no del polvo nace la calamidad, ni del suelo brotan los trabajos,
7 But man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
ya que el hombre nace para el trabajo, como el ave para volar.
8 But as for me, I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause;
Yo (en tu lugar) acudiría a Dios, y a Él le encomendaría mi causa;
9 Who doeth great things and unsearchable, marvellous things without number;
Él hace cosas grandes e inescrutables, maravillas que nadie puede enumerar;
10 Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields;
derrama la lluvia sobre la tierra, y envía las aguas sobre los campos.
11 So that He setteth up on high those that are low, and those that mourn are exalted to safety.
Ensalza a los humildes Y eleva al afligido a lugar seguro;
12 He frustrateth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands can perform nothing substantial.
desbarata las tramas del astuto, para que sus manos no puedan realizar sus proyectos.
13 He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong.
Prende a los sabios en su propia red, y los designios de los arteros quedan frustrados.
14 They meet with darkness in the day-time, and grope at noonday as in the night.
En pleno día tropiezan con tinieblas, andan a tientas al mediodía, como si fuese de noche.
15 But He saveth from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty.
Entretanto (Dios) salva al desvalido de la espada de sus lenguas, y de la mano del poderoso.
16 So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.
Por eso el débil tiene esperanza, y la injusticia tiene que callarse.
17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth; therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.
Feliz el hombre a quien Dios corrige. No desprecies la corrección del Omnipotente.
18 For He maketh sore, and bindeth up; He woundeth, and His hands make whole.
Él hace la llaga, y la venda; Él hiere y sana con sus manos.
19 He will deliver thee in six troubles; yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
De seis angustias te sacará, y en la séptima no te tocará el mal.
20 In famine He will redeem thee from death; and in war from the power of the sword.
En tiempos de hambre te salvará de la muerte, y en la guerra, del poder de la espada.
21 Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue; neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
Te preservará del azote de la lengua, y no temerás si vinieren calamidades.
22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh; neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
Te reirás de la devastación y del hambre, y no temerás a las fieras salvajes.
23 For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
Pues estarás en alianza con las piedras del campo, y las fieras del campo vivirán en paz contigo.
24 And thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt miss nothing.
Conocerás que reina la paz en tu tienda; visitarás tus apriscos, y nada echarás de menos.
25 Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
Verás numerosa tu descendencia, y tu prole como la hierba del campo.
26 Thou shalt come to thy grave in a ripe age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in its season.
Entrarás en el sepulcro en plena madurez cual gavilla segada a su tiempo.
27 Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.
Esto es lo que hemos visto. Así es. Óyelo bien y medítalo para tu provecho.”
