Job 4
1 Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said:
Entonces Elifaz temanita tomó la palabra y dijo:
2 If one venture a word unto thee, wilt thou be weary? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
“¿Te molestará por ventura si osamos hablarte? Mas ¿quién puede contener las palabras?
3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
Mira, tú has enseñado a muchos, y a las manos débiles dabas fuerza.
4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
Tus palabras sostenían a los que tropezaban, fortalecías las rodillas que vacilaban.
5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou art weary; it toucheth thee, and thou art affrighted.
Y ahora que a ti te ha llegado el turno, estás abatido; si Él te toca a ti, quedas turbado.
6 Is not thy fear of God thy confidence, and thy hope the integrity of thy ways?
¿No existe ya tu temor (a Dios), tu confianza, ni esperanza, y la rectitud de tu vida?
7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?
Recuerda bien si pereció jamás inocente alguno, ¿y dónde han sido exterminados los justos?
8 According as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow mischief, reap the same.
Por lo que siempre he visto, los que aran la iniquidad y siembran el mal, eso mismo cosechan,
9 By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of His anger are they consumed.
Perecen al soplo de Dios, los consume el aliento de su ira.
10 The lion roareth, and the fierce lion howleth — yet the teeth of the young lions are broken.
El bramido del león, la voz del rugiente, y los dientes del leoncillo se quiebran.
11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered abroad.
Perece el león por falta de presa, y los cachorros de la leona andan dispersos.
12 Now a word was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a whisper thereof.
En el silencio me llegó una palabra, mi oído solo percibió un murmullo.
13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
Agitado por visiones nocturnas, cuando en profundo sueño caen los hombres,
14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, and all my bones were made to shake.
se apoderó de mí un susto y espanto que estremeció todos mis huesos.
15 Then a spirit passed before my face, that made the hair of my flesh to stand up.
Pasó por delante de mí un espíritu que erizó los pelos de mi cuerpo.
16 It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof; a form was before mine eyes; I heard a still voice:
Se detuvo, pero no pude conocer su rostro; estaba cual espectro ante mis ojos; y en el silencio oí una voz (que decía):
17 'Shall mortal man be just before God? Shall a man be pure before his Maker?
«¿Acaso el hombre es más justo que Dios? ¿el mortal más puro que su Hacedor?»
18 Behold, He putteth no trust in His servants, and His angels He chargeth with folly;
Si Él ni de sus mismos ministros se fía, y aun en sus ángeles descubre faltas,
19 How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!
¿cuánto más en los que habitan en casas de barro, cuyos fundamentos son de polvo y serán roídos (como) por la polilla?
20 Betwixt morning and evening they are shattered; they perish for ever without any regarding it.
De la noche a la mañana son exterminados, perecen para siempre sin que nadie repare en ello.
21 Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.'
Se les corta el hilo de su (vida); mueren sin sabiduría.
