Luke 19
1 AND entering into Jericho, he passed through.
Entré dans Jéricho, Jésus traversait la ville.
2 And there was a person whose name was Zaccheus, and he was a principal farmer of the taxes, and the man was rich.
Il s'y trouvait un personnage du nom de Zacchée: c'était un chef de publicains, un homme riche.
3 And he was desirous to have a sight of Jesus, what sort of person he was; and he could not, because of the crowd, for he was short of stature.
Il cherchait à voir qui était Jésus; mais, étant de petite taille, cela lui était impossible, à cause de la foule.
4 So running before, he climbed up a sycamore-tree, in order to get a sight of him: for he was about to pass that way.
Alors il courut en avant et, pour voir Jésus, monta sur un sycomore au pied duquel il devait passer.
5 And when he was come to the spot, Jesus looking up, saw him, and said to him, Zaccheus, come down speedily; for to-day I must abide at thy house.
Arrivé en cet endroit, Jésus leva les yeux sur lui: «Zacchée, dit-il, hâte-toi de descendre; car aujourd'hui c'est dans ta maison qu'il faut que je m'arrête.»
6 And he hastened to come down, and entertained him gladly.
Cet homme descendit à la hâte et le reçut plein de joie.
7 And when they all saw it, they murmured, saying, That he is gone to lodge with a man, a notorious sinner.
Mais tous ceux qui voyaient cela murmuraient. «Il va demeurer chez un pécheur!» disaient-ils.
8 Then Zaccheus standing up, said unto the Lord, Behold, the half of my goods, Lord, I give unto the poor; and if I have got any thing from any man, by laying false informations, I am ready to restore fourfold.
Quant à Zacchée, il se tenait devant le Seigneur et lui disait: «La moitié de mes biens, Seigneur, je la donne aux pauvres, et si j'ai fait tort à quelqu'un de quoi que ce soit, je lui en restitue quatre fois autant.»
9 Then said Jesus unto him, To-day is salvation come to this house, because that he also is a son of Abraham.
Alors Jésus dit, en se tournant vers Zacchée: «Cette maison a reçu aujourd'hui le salut, parce que cet homme est, lui aussi, un fils d'Abraham.
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Car le Fils de l'homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui est perdu.»
11 And as they were hearkening to these things, he proceeded on, and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and they supposed that immediately the kingdom of God would openly appear.
On l'écoutait; alors il continua en racontant une parabole; et il comme il était tout près de Jérusalem et qu'on croyait que le Royaume de Dieu allait tout à coup apparaître,
12 He said therefore, A certain man of noble family went into a distant region, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
voici ce qu'il dit: «Un homme de grande naissance avait à se rendre dans un pays éloigné pour recevoir l'investiture d'un royaume et revenir ensuite.
13 And calling his ten servants, he gave them ten manehs, and said unto them, Employ yourselves in traffic, till I come back.
Il appela dix de ses serviteurs, leur remit dix mines, en leur disant: «Faites valoir ceci jusqu'à mon retour.»
14 But his citizens hated him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, We will not have this man to rule over us.
«Les concitoyens de cet homme le haïssaient et, après son départ, ils envoyèrent des délégués pour dire en leur nom: «Nous ne voulons pas que cet homme règne sur nous.»
15 And it came to pass, at his return, after receiving the kingdom, that he ordered the servants to be called, to whom he had given the money, that he might know what every one had gained by his traffic.
«Cependant, quand il revint, il avait reçu le pouvoir royal; alors il fit appeler ses serviteurs, ceux à qui il avait donné l'argent, pour savoir comment chacun l'avait fait valoir.
16 Then came the first, and said, Sir, thy maneh has gained ten manehs.
Le premier se présenta et dit: «Seigneur, ta mine en a produit dix.» —
17 And he said unto him, Well done, good servant: because thou hast been faithful in the least matter, hold thou dominion over ten cities.
«Bien, bon serviteur, lui répondit son maître, pour avoir, en si peu de choses, été fidèle, tu auras la puissance sur dix villes.»
18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy maneh hath gained five manehs.
«Le second s'approcha et dit: «Ta mine, Seigneur, en a produit cinq.» —
19 Then said he also to this man, Be thou also over five cities.
«Eh bien, toi, répondit le maître à celui-là, tu commanderas à cinq villes.»
20 And another came, saying, Master, there is thy maneh, which I have kept wrapt up in a napkin:
«Un autre encore s'approcha et dit: «Seigneur, voici ta mine que j'ai tenue enveloppée dans un linge.
21 for I was afraid of thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up where thou hadst laid nothing down, and reapest where thou didst not sow.
Je te craignais, en effet, car tu es un homme terrible; tu t'empares de ce que tu n'as pas, fondé; tu moissonnes ce que tu n'as pas semé.» —
22 And he said to him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping what I did not sow;
«De ta propre bouche je tire ton jugement, mauvais serviteur, répondit le maître; ah! tu savais que je suis un homme terrible, m'emparant de ce que je n'ai pas fondé, moissonnant ce que je n'ai pas semé!
23 why then gavest thou not my money to the bank, so when I came I might have required it with interest?
et pourquoi n'as-tu pas placé mon argent dans une banque; à mon retour, je l'aurais retiré avec un intérêt.»
24 And he said to those who stood by, Take from him the maneh, and give it to him who hath the ten manehs.
Puis s'adressant à ceux qui étaient là: «Otez-lui la mine et donnez-la à celui qui en a dix.» —
25 (And they say unto him, Sir, he hath ten manehs.)
(Seigneur, lui dirent-ils, il a dix mines).
26 For I say unto you, That to every one who hath, shall more be given; but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away from him.
«Je vous le déclare, à tout homme qui a, il sera donné; mais à celui qui n'a pas, même ce qu'il a lui sera ôté.
27 But as for these enemies of mine, who would not that I should reign over them, bring them hither, and slay them before me.
Quant à mes ennemis, à ceux qui n'ont pas voulu que je régnasse sur eux, amenez-les ici et égorgez-les devant moi.»
28 And having thus spoken, he proceeded forward, going up to Jerusalem.
Jésus parla ainsi, puis il partit devant, montant à Jérusalem.
29 And it came to pass, as he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, to the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
Quand ils furent près de Bethphagé et de Béthanie, du côté du mont appelé Bois d'oliviers, Jésus envoya deux des disciples,
30 saying, Go into the opposite village; in which, as ye are at the entrance, ye will find a foal tied, on which no man hath ever yet sat: loose, and bring him.
en leur disant: «Allez à ce village qui est devant vous; à l'entrée, vous trouverez un ânon attaché, que personne n'a jamais monté. Détachez-le et l'amenez.
31 And if any man ask you, Why ye loose it? thus shall ye say to him, That the Lord hath need of him.
Si l'on vous demande pourquoi vous le détachez, vous ferez cette réponse: «Le Seigneur en a besoin.»
32 Then they who were sent, going, found it just as he had described to them.
Les messagers partirent et trouvèrent l'ânon, ainsi qu'il le leur avait dit.
33 And as they were untying the foal, the owners of it said to them, Why loose ye the foal?
Tandis qu'ils le détachaient, ses maîtres leur dirent: «Pourquoi détachez-vous cet ânon?» —
34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him.
«Parce que le Seigneur en a besoin», répondirent-ils.
35 And they brought him to Jesus: and throwing their cloaks on the foal, they set Jesus thereon.
Ils conduisirent donc l'ânon, sur lequel ils jetèrent leurs manteaux, à Jésus, qu'ils firent monter sur lui.
36 And as he went, they spread under him their garments on the road.
Quand il fut en marche, ils étendirent leurs vêtements sur la route,
37 And when he was now approaching, at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples rejoicing began to praise God with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen;
et lorsqu'il s'approcha de la descente du mont des Oliviers, la multitude des disciples se mit tout entière à jeter des cris de joie et à louer Dieu au sujet de tous les miracles qu'ils avaient vus.
38 saying, Blessed is the King, who cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.
Ils disaient: «Béni soit le Roi qui vient au nom du Seigneur!» «Paix dans le ciel et gloire au plus haut des cieux!»
39 And some of the Pharisees from the crowd said unto him, Master, reprove thy disciples.
Quelques Pharisiens qui étaient dans la foule lui dirent: «Maître, réprime tes disciples.»
40 And he replying said to them. I tell you that, should these be silent, the very stones would cry out.
Il leur répondit par ces paroles: «Je vous déclare que si ceux-ci se taisent, les pierres crieront!»
41 And as he drew near, beholding the city, he wept over it,
Il approcha de la ville; quand il la vit, il pleura sur elle, en disant:
42 saying, Oh that thou hadst known, even in this thy day, the things that are for thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
«Si tu avais reconnu, toi aussi, du moins en ce jour, ce qui te pourrait apporter la paix; mais, à l'heure présente, tout cela est voilé à tes regards.
43 For the days will come upon thee, when thy enemies shall cast up a trench around thee, and encircle thee about, and straiten thee on every side,
Des jours viendront sur toi où tes ennemis t'entoureront d'une palissade, t'enfermeront comme dans un cercle et te serreront de toutes parts;
44 and will dash thee on the ground, and thy children within thee; and will not leave in thee one stone upon another: because thou knewest not the season of thy visitation.
ils te briseront contre le sol, toi et tes enfants qui sont dans ton sein, et ils ne laisseront pas en toi pierre sur pierre, parce que tu n'as pas reconnu le temps de ta visitation.»
45 And entering into the temple, he began to cast out those who sold and bought in the temple;
Jésus entra dans le Temple et se mit à en chasser les vendeurs.
46 saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of robbers.
Il est écrit, leur dit-il: «Ma maison est une maison de prières» Et vous en avez fait une caverne de brigands.
47 And he continued daily teaching in the temple. Then the chief priests and the scribes sought to destroy him, with the heads of the people,
Chaque jour, dans le Temple, il enseignait. Les chefs des prêtres et les Scribes cherchaient à le faire périr, ainsi que les principaux personnages de la nation.
48 but did not discover how they could do any thing: for all the people attentively hung on his lips.
Mais ils ne trouvaient pas le moyen de le faire, à cause du peuple, qui, tout entier, était suspendu à ses lèvres.
