Matthew 3
1 And in those dayes, Iohn the Baptist came and preached in the wildernes of Iudea,
E, n'aquelles dias, appareceu João Baptista prégando no deserto da Judea,
2 And said, Repent: for the kingdome of heauen is at hand.
E dizendo: Arrependei-vos, porque é chegado o reino dos céus;
3 For this is he of whome it is spoken by the Prophet Esaias, saying, The voyce of him that crieth in the wildernes, Prepare ye the way of the Lord: make his pathes straight.
Porque é este o annunciado pelo propheta Isaias, que disse: Voz do que clama no deserto: preparae o caminho do Senhor, endireitae as suas veredas.
4 And this Iohn had his garment of camels heare, and a girdle of a skinne about his loynes: his meate was also locusts and wilde hony.
E este João tinha o seu vestido de pellos de camelo, e um cinto de coiro em torno de seus lombos; e alimentava-se de gafanhotos e mel silvestre.
5 Then went out to him Ierusalem and all Iudea, and all the region rounde about Iordan.
Então ia ter com elle Jerusalem, e toda a Judea, e toda a provincia adjacente ao Jordão,
6 And they were baptized of him in Iordan, confessing their sinnes.
E eram por elle baptizados no rio Jordão, confessando os seus peccados.
7 Now when he sawe many of the Pharises, and of the Sadduces come to his baptisme, he said vnto them, O generations of vipers, who hath forewarned you to flee from the anger to come?
E, vendo elle muitos dos phariseos e dos sadduceos, que vinham ao seu baptismo, dizia-lhes: Raça de viboras, quem vos ensinou a fugir da ira futura?
8 Bring foorth therefore fruite worthy amendment of life.
Produzi pois fructos dignos de arrependimento;
9 And thinke not to say with your selues, We haue Abraham to our father: for I say vnto you, that God is able euen of these stones to raise vp children vnto Abraham.
E não presumaes de vós mesuros, dizendo: Temos por pae a Abrahão; porque eu vos digo que mesmo d'estas pedras Deus pode suscitar filhos a Abrahão.
10 And now also is the axe put to the roote of the trees: therfore euery tree which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewen downe, and cast into ye fire.
E tambem agora está posto o machado á raiz das arvores; toda a arvore, pois, que não produz bom fructo, é cortada e lançada no fogo
11 In deede I baptize you with water to amendment of life, but he that commeth after me, is mightier then I, whose shoes I am not worthie to beare: hee will baptize you with the holy Ghost, and with fire.
E eu, em verdade, vos baptizo com agua, para o arrependimento; mas aquelle que vem após mim, é mais poderoso do que eu; cujas alparcas não sou digno de levar; elle vos baptizará com o Espirito Sancto, e com fogo.
12 Which hath his fanne in his hand, and wil make cleane his floore, and gather his wheate into his garner, but will burne vp the chaffe with vnquenchable fire.
Em sua mão tem a pá, e limpará a sua eira, e recolherá no celleiro o seu trigo, e queimará a palha com fogo que nunca se apagará.
13 Then came Iesus from Galile to Iordan vnto Iohn, to be baptized of him.
Então veiu Jesus da Galilea a João, junto do Jordão, para ser baptizado por elle,
14 But Iohn earnestly put him backe, saying, I haue neede to be baptized of thee, and commest thou to me?
João oppunha-se-lhe, porém, dizendo: Eu careço de ser baptizado por ti, e vens tu a mim?
15 Then Iesus answering, saide to him, Let be nowe: for thus it becommeth vs to fulfill all righteousnes. So he suffered him.
Jesus, porém, respondendo, disse-lhe: Deixa por agora, porque assim nos convem cumprir toda a justiça. Então elle o deixou.
16 And Iesus when hee was baptized, came straight out of the water. And lo, the heaues were opened vnto him, and Iohn saw the Spirit of God descending like a doue, and lighting vpon him.
E, sendo Jesus baptizado, saiu logo da agua, e eis-que se lhe abriram os céus, e viu o Espirito de Deus descendo como pomba e vindo sobre elle.
17 And loe, a voyce came from heauen, saying, This is my beloued Sonne, in whome I am well pleased.
E eis que uma voz dos céus dizia: Este é o meu Filho amado, em quem me comprazo.
