2 Kings 6
1 And the children of the Prophets saide vnto Elisha, Behold, we pray thee, the place where we dwell with thee, is too litle for vs.
Or les fils des Prophètes dirent à Elisée: Voici maintenant, le lieu où nous sommes assis devant toi, est trop étroit pour nous.
2 Let vs nowe goe to Iorden, that we may take thence euery man a beame, and make vs a place to dwell in. And he answered, Goe.
Allons-nous-en maintenant jusqu'au Jourdain, et nous prendrons de là chacun de nous une pièce de bois, et nous ferons là un lieu pour y demeurer; et il répondit: Allez.
3 And one said, Vouchsafe, I pray thee, to go with thy seruants, and he answered, I will goe.
Et l'un d'eux dit: Je te prie qu'il te plaise de venir avec tes serviteurs; et il répondit: J'y irai.
4 So he went with them, and when they came to Iorden, they cut downe wood.
Il s'en alla donc avec eux; et ils allèrent au Jourdain, et ils coupèrent du bois.
5 And as one was felling of a tree, the yron fell into the water: then he cryed, and said, Alas master, it was but borowed.
Mais il arriva que comme l'un d'eux abattait une pièce de bois, le fer [de sa cognée] tomba dans l'eau; et il s'écria, et dit: Hélas mon Seigneur! encore est-il emprunté.
6 And the man of God saide, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. Then he cut downe a piece of wood, and cast in thither, and he caused the yron to swimme.
Et l'homme de Dieu dit: Où est-il tombé? et il lui montra l'endroit; alors [Elisée] coupa un morceau de bois, et le jeta là, et il fit nager le fer par dessus.
7 Then he saide, Take it vp to thee. And he stretched out his hand, and tooke it.
Et il dit: Lève-le; et [cet homme] étendit sa main, et le prit.
8 Then the King of Aram warred against Israel, and tooke counsell with his seruants, and said, In such and such a place shalbe my campe.
Or le Roi de Syrie faisant la guerre à Israël, tenait conseil avec ses serviteurs, et disait: En un tel et un tel lieu sera mon camp.
9 Therefore the man of God sent vnto the King of Israel, saying, Beware thou goe not ouer to such a place: for there the Aramites are come downe.
Et l'homme de Dieu envoyait dire au Roi d'Israël: Donne-toi de garde de passer en ce lieu-là, car les Syriens y sont descendus.
10 So the King of Israel sent to the place which the man of God tolde him, and warned him of, and saued himselfe from thence, not once, nor twise.
Et le Roi d'Israël envoyait au lieu que lui disait l'homme de Dieu, et il y pourvoyait, et était sur ses gardes; ce qu'il fit plusieurs fois.
11 And the heart of the King of Aram was troubled for this thing: therefore he called his seruants and saide vnto them, Will ye not shewe me, which of vs bewrayeth our counsel to the king of Israel?
Et le cœur du Roi de Syrie en fut troublé, et il appela ses serviteurs, et leur dit: Ne me découvrirez-vous pas qui est celui des nôtres qui envoie vers le Roi d'Israël?
12 Then one of his seruants saide, None, my lorde, O King, but Elisha the Prophet that is in Israel, telleth the King of Israel, euen the wordes that thou speakest in thy priuie chamber.
Et l'un de ses serviteurs lui dit: Il n'y en a point, ô Roi mon Seigneur! mais Elisée le Prophète qui est en Israël, déclare au Roi d'Israël les paroles mêmes que tu dis dans la chambre où tu couches.
13 And he said, Goe, and espie where he is, that I may sende and fetch him. And one tolde him, saying, Beholde, he is in Dothan.
Et il dit: Allez, et voyez où il est, afin que j'envoie pour le prendre; et on lui rapporta, en disant: [Le] voilà à Dothan.
14 So he sent thither horses, and charets, and a mightie hoste: and they came by night, and compassed the citie.
Et il envoya là des chevaux, et des chariots, et de grandes troupes, qui vinrent de nuit, et qui environnèrent la ville.
15 And when the seruant of the man of God arose earely to goe out, beholde, an hoste compassed the citie with horses and charets. Then his seruant sayde vnto him, Alas master, howe shall we doe?
Or le serviteur de l'homme de Dieu se leva de grand matin, et sortit, et voici des troupes, et des chevaux, et des chariots qui environnaient la ville; et le serviteur de l'homme de Dieu lui dit: Hélas mon Seigneur! comment ferons-nous?
16 And he answered, Feare not: for they that be with vs, are moe then they that be with them.
Et il lui répondit: Ne crains point; car ceux qui sont avec nous, sont en plus grand nombre que ceux qui sont avec eux.
17 Then Elisha prayed, and saide, Lord, I beseech thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the seruant, and he looked, and beholde, the mountaine was full of horses and charets of fyre round about Elisha.
Elisée donc pria, et dit: Je te prie, ô Eternel! ouvre ses yeux, afin qu'il voie; et l'Eternel ouvrit les yeux du serviteur, et il vit, et voici la montagne était pleine de chevaux, et de chariots de feu autour d'Elisée.
18 So they came downe to him, but Elisha prayed vnto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindnesse. And he smote them with blindnes, according to the worde of Elisha.
Puis [les Syriens] descendirent vers Elisée, et il pria l'Eternel, et dit: Je te prie, frappe ces gens d'éblouissement; et Dieu les frappa d'éblouissement, selon la parole d'Elisée.
19 And Elisha said vnto them, This is not the way, neither is this the citie: follow me, and I will leade you to the man whome ye seeke. But he ledde them to Samaria.
Et Elisée leur dit: Ce n'est pas ici le chemin, et ce n'est pas ici la ville; venez après moi, et je vous mènerai vers l'homme que vous cherchez; et il les mena à Samarie.
20 And when they were come to Samaria, Elisha saide, Lord, open their eyes that they may see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw, and beholde, they were in the mids of Samaria.
Et il arriva que sitôt qu'ils furent entrés dans Samarie, Elisée dit: Ô Eternel ouvre leurs yeux afin qu'ils voient. Et l'Eternel ouvrit leurs yeux, et ils virent, et voici ils étaient au milieu de Samarie.
21 And the King of Israel sayde vnto Elisha when he sawe them, My father, shall I smite them, shall I smite them?
Et dès que le Roi d'Israël les eut vus, il dit à Elisée: Frapperai-je, frapperai-je, mon père?
22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: doest thou not smite them that thou hast taken with thy sworde, and with thy bowe? but set bread and water before them, that they may eate and drinke and goe to their master.
Et il répondit: Tu ne frapperas point; frapperais-tu de ton épée et de ton arc ceux que tu aurais pris prisonniers? mets, [au contraire], du pain et de l'eau devant eux, et qu'ils mangent et boivent, et qu'après cela ils s'en aillent vers leur Seigneur.
23 And he made great preparation for them: and when they had eaten and drunken, he sent them away: and they went to their master. So ye bands of Aram came no more into the land of Israel.
Et il leur fit grand'chère, et ils mangèrent et burent; puis il les laissa aller, et ils s'en allèrent vers leur Seigneur. Depuis ce temps-là les partis de Syrie ne revinrent plus au pays d'Israël.
24 But afterward Ben-hadad King of Aram gathered all his hoste, and went vp, and besieged Samaria.
Mais il arriva, après ces choses que Ben-hadad Roi de Syrie, assembla toute son armée, et monta, et assiégea Samarie.
25 So there was a great famine in Samaria: for loe, they besieged it vntill an asses head was at foure score pieces of siluer, and the fourth part of a kab of doues doung at fiue pieces of siluer.
Et il y eut une grande famine dans Samarie; car voilà, ils l'assiégèrent si longtemps, que la tête d'un âne se vendait quatre-vingts [pièces] d'argent, et la quatrième partie d'un kad de fiente de pigeons, cinq [pièces] d'argent.
26 And as the King of Israel was going vpon the wall, there cryed a woman vnto him, saying, Helpe, my lord, O King.
Or il arriva que comme le Roi d'Israël passait sur la muraille, une femme lui cria, en disant: Ô Roi mon Seigneur! délivre-moi.
27 And he said, Seeing the Lord doeth not succour thee, howe shoulde I helpe thee with the barne, or with the wine presse?
Et il répondit: Puisque l'Eternel ne te délivre point, comment te délivrerais-je? Serait-ce de l'aire ou de la cuve?
28 Also the King said vnto her, What ayleth thee? And she answered, This woman sayde vnto me, Giue thy sonne, that we may eate him to day, and we will eate my sonne to morowe,
Il lui dit encore: Qu'as-tu? Et elle répondit: Cette femme-là m'a dit: Donne ton fils, et mangeons-le aujourd'hui, et nous mangerons mon fils demain.
29 So we sod my sonne, and did eate him: and I saide to her the day after, Giue thy sonne, that we may eate him, but she hath hid her sonne.
Ainsi nous avons bouilli mon fils, et l'avons mangé, et le jour d'après je lui ai dit: Donne ton fils, et mangeons-le; mais elle a caché son fils.
30 And when the King had heard the wordes of the woman, he rent his clothes, (and as he went vpon the wall, the people looked, and behold, he had sackecloth within vpon his flesh)
Or dès que le Roi eut entendu les paroles de cette femme, il déchira ses vêtements, (or il passait alors sur la muraille) ce que le peuple vit, et voilà il avait un sac sur sa chair en dedans.
31 And he saide, God doe so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the sonne of Shaphat shall stande on him this day.
C'est pourquoi [le Roi] dit: Dieu me fasse ainsi, et ainsi il y ajoute, si aujourd'hui la tête d'Elisée fils de Saphat demeure sur lui.
32 (Nowe Elisha sate in his house, and the Elders sate with him.) And the King sent a man before him: but before the messenger came to him, he saide to the Elders, See ye not howe this murtherers sonne hath sent to take away mine head? take heede when the messenger commeth, and shut the doore and handle him roughly at the doore: is not the sounde of his masters feete behinde him?
Et Elisée étant assis dans sa maison, et les Anciens étant assis avec lui, le Roi envoya un homme de sa part; mais avant que le messager fût venu à [Elisée], [Elisée] dit aux Anciens: Ne voyez-vous pas que le fils de ce meurtrier-là a envoyé ici pour m'ôter la tête? Prenez garde, sitôt que le messager sera entré, de fermer la porte, et de l'arrêter à la porte; [n'entendez-vous] pas le bruit des pieds de son maître qui vient après lui?
33 While he yet talked with them, beholde, the messenger came downe vnto him, and saide, Behold, this euill commeth of the Lord: should I attende on the Lord any longer?
Et comme il parlait encore avec eux, voici le messager descendit vers lui, et [le Roi] dit: Voici, ce mal vient de l'Eternel, qu'attendrai-je plus de l'Eternel?
