< Matthew 26 >

1 After Jesus had said all this, he told his disciples,
Awo Yesu bwe yamala okwogera ebyo byonna, n’agamba abayigirizwa be nti,
2 “You know that it's Passover in two days time, and the Son of man will be handed over to be crucified.”
“Nga bwe mumanyi, ebulayo ennaku bbiri tutuuke ku mbaga ey’Okuyitako. Omwana w’Omuntu aliweebwayo akomererwe.”
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the courtyard of Caiaphas, the high priest.
Mu kiseera ekyo kyennyini, bakabona abakulu n’abakulembeze b’Abayudaaya baali bakuŋŋaanye mu lubiri lwa Kayaafa, Kabona Asinga Obukulu,
4 There they plotted to arrest Jesus on some deceitful pretext and kill him.
nga bakola olukwe mwe banaayita okukwata Yesu bamutte.
5 But they said, “Let's not do this during the festival so that the people don't riot.”
Naye baasalawo kireme kubaawo mu kiseera eky’Embaga, si kulwa nga wabaawo akeegugungo mu bantu.
6 While Jesus was staying at Simon the leper's house in Bethany,
Awo Yesu bwe yali mu nnyumba ya Simooni Omugenge e Besaniya,
7 a woman came over to him carrying an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume. She poured it on Jesus' head while he was sitting eating. But when the disciples saw what she did, they were upset.
ng’ali ku mmeeza, omukazi n’ajja gy’ali ng’alina eccupa y’amafuta ag’akaloosa ag’omuwendo omungi, n’agafuka ku mutwe gwa Yesu.
8 “What a terrible waste!” they objected.
Abayigirizwa be bwe baakiraba ne banyiiga. Ne bagamba nti, “Lwaki okwonoona amafuta ag’omuwendo gatyo!
9 “This perfume could've been sold for a lot of money and given to the poor!”
Kubanga yandisobodde okugatundamu ensimbi nnyingi n’azigabira abaavu.”
10 Jesus was aware of what was going on and told them, “Why are you upset with this woman? She's done something wonderful for me!
Yesu bwe yamanya ebirowoozo byabwe, n’abagamba nti, “Lwaki mutawanya omukazi? Ankoledde ekintu ekirungi.
11 You'll always have the poor with you, but you won't always have me.
Bulijjo abaavu muli nabo, naye nze sijja kuba nammwe bulijjo.
12 By pouring this perfume on my body she's prepared me for burial.
Anfuseeko amafuta gano okuteekateeka omubiri gwange okuguziika.
13 I tell you the truth: wherever in the world this good news is spread, the story of what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.”
Ddala ddala mbagamba nti, bulijjo ajjanga kujjukirwa olw’ekikolwa kino. Ekikolwa ky’omukazi ono kijjanga kwogerwako wonna wonna mu nsi Enjiri gy’eneebuulirwanga.”
14 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the chief priests
Awo Yuda Isukalyoti omu ku bayigirizwa ekkumi n’ababiri n’agenda eri bakabona abakulu.
15 and asked them, “How much will you pay me for betraying Jesus to you?” They paid him thirty silver coins.
N’ababuuza nti, “Munampa ki okubalaga Yesu mulyoke mumukwate?” Ne bamuwa ebitundu bya ffeeza amakumi asatu.
16 From then on he looked for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
Okuviira ddala mu kiseera ekyo Yuda n’anoonya akakisa konna alyemu Yesu olukwe.
17 On the first day of the festival of unleavened bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked him, “Where do you want us to prepare the Passover meal for you to eat?”
Awo ku lunaku olusooka mu nnaku ez’Embaga ey’Emigaati egitazimbulukuswa, abayigirizwa ne bajja eri Yesu ne bamubuuza nti, “Embaga y’Okuyitako tukugiteekereteekere wa?”
18 Jesus told them, “Go into the city and find this particular man, and tell him that the Teacher says, ‘My time is approaching. I'm coming to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’”
Yesu n’abaddamu nti, “Mugende mu kibuga ewa ‘Gundi,’ mumugambe nti, ‘Omuyigiriza agambye nti: Ekiseera kyange kituuse, era Embaga ey’Okuyitako njagala kugiriira mu maka go awamu n’abayigirizwa bange.’”
19 The disciples did as Jesus told them, and prepared the Passover meal there.
Abayigirizwa ne bagenda ne bakola nga Yesu bwe yabalagira ne bateekateeka Okuyitako.
20 When evening came he sat down to eat with the Twelve.
Akawungeezi ako Yesu bwe yali ng’atudde
21 While they were eating he told them, “I tell you the truth: one of you is going to betray me.”
ku mmere n’abayigirizwa be ekkumi n’ababiri, nga balya n’abagamba nti, “Omu ku mmwe ajja kundyamu olukwe.”
22 They were extremely upset. One after the other they asked him, “Lord, it's not me, is it?”
Bwe baakiwulira emitima ne gibeewanika, buli omu n’abuuza nti, “Ye nze?”
23 “The one who's dipped his hand into the dish with me will betray me,” Jesus replied.
Yesu n’addamu nti, “Akozezza nange mu kibya, y’oyo.
24 “The Son of man will die just as it was prophesied about him, but what a disaster it will be for the man who betrays the Son of man! It would be better for that man if he'd never been born!”
Mutegeere nti Omwana w’Omuntu agenda nga bwe kyamuwandiikibwako, naye zimusanze omuntu oyo agenda okulya mu Mwana w’Omuntu olukwe. Kyandibadde kirungi singa omuntu oyo teyazaalirwa ddala.”
25 Judas, the one who would betray Jesus, asked “It's not me, is it, Rabbi?” “You said it,” Jesus replied.
Yuda anaamulyamu olukwe n’amubuuza nti, “Ddala ddala, ye nze Labbi?” Yesu n’amuddamu nti, “Oyogedde.”
26 While they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it and gave pieces to the disciples. “Take and eat this for it is my body,” said Jesus.
Bwe baali balya, Yesu n’addira omugaati n’agusabira omukisa, n’agumenyaamenyamu n’agabira abayigirizwa be, n’agamba nti, “Mutoole mulye, kubanga guno gwe mubiri gwange.”
27 Then he picked up the cup, blessed it, and gave it to them. “Drink from it, all of you,” he told them.
Bw’atyo n’asitula ekikompe, ne yeebaza Katonda, n’abawa ng’agamba nti, “Munywe ku kino mwenna,
28 “For this is my blood of the agreement, poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
kubanga guno gwe musaayi gwange ogw’endagaano oguyiika ku lw’abantu abangi, olw’okusonyiyibwa ebibi.
29 However, I tell you, I won't drink this fruit of the vine until the day I drink it new with you in the kingdom of my Father.”
Era mbagamba nti, Sigenda kuddayo kunywa ku kibala kino okutuusa ku lunaku olwo lwe ndikinywa nammwe nga kiggya mu bwakabaka bwa Kitange.”
30 After they'd sung a song, they left for the Mount of Olives.
Bwe baamala okuyimbayo oluyimba ne bafuluma ne bagenda ku lusozi olwa Zeyituuni.
31 “All of you will abandon me tonight,” Jesus told them. “As Scripture says, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the flock of sheep will be completely scattered.’
Awo Yesu n’abagamba nti, “Ekiro kya leero mwenna mujja kunjabulira. “Kubanga kyawandiikibwa nti, ‘Ndikuba omusumba n’endiga z’omu kisibo kye ne zisaasaana.’
32 But after I have risen, I'll go ahead of you to Galilee.”
Naye bwe ndimala okuzuukizibwa ndibakulembera okugenda e Ggaliraaya.”
33 But Peter objected, “Even if everyone else abandons you, I'll never abandon you.”
Peetero n’amuddamu nti, “Abalala bonna bwe banaakwabulira, nze sijja kukwabulira.”
34 “I'm telling you the truth,” Jesus told him, “This very night, before the cock crows, you'll deny me three times.”
Yesu n’amugamba nti, “Ddala ddala nkugamba nti, Mu kiro kino kyennyini enkoko eneeba tennakookolima, onooneegaana emirundi esatu.”
35 “Even if I have to die with you, I'll never deny you!” Peter insisted. And all the disciples said the same thing.
Peetero n’amugamba nti, “Oba kufiira wamu naawe n’afa, naye sijja kukwegaana n’akamu kokka.” N’abayigirizwa be abalala bonna ne boogera bwe batyo.
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane. He told them, “Sit down here while I go over there and pray.”
Awo Yesu n’agenda nabo mu kifo ekiyitibwa Gesusemane n’abagamba nti, “Mutuule wano okutuusa lwe nnaamala okusaba nkomewo.”
37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with him, and he began to suffer agonizing sorrow and distress.
N’atwala Peetero ne batabani ba Zebbedaayo bombi, n’atandika, okuwulira ennaku nnyingi n’okweraliikirira ennyo.
38 Then he said to them, “I am so overwhelmed with sadness that it's killing me. Wait here and keep watch with me.”
N’abagamba nti, “Omwoyo gwange guliko ennaku egenda na kunzita. Kale mubeere wano tutunule ffenna.”
39 He went a little farther forward, fell face down, and prayed. “My Father, please, if it's possible, let this cup of suffering be taken from me,” Jesus asked. “Even so, may it not be what I want but what you want.”
N’abaleka awo ne yeeyongerayo akabanga, n’agwa wansi ng’avuunise amaaso ge ku ttaka, n’asaba nti, “Kitange! Obanga kisoboka, leka ekikompe kino kinzigibweko. Naye si nga Nze bwe njagala, wabula nga ggwe bw’oyagala.”
40 He went back to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “What, you couldn't stay awake with me for just one hour?
N’addayo eri abayigirizwa be n’abasanga nga beebase. N’agamba Peetero nti, “Peetero, naawe tosobodde kutunula nange n’essaawa emu?
41 Stay awake and pray, so that you don't fall into temptation. Yes, the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
Mutunule nga bwe musaba. Omwoyo gwo gwagala, naye omubiri gwe munafu!”
42 He went away a second time and prayed. “My Father, if this cup cannot be taken from me without me drinking from it, then your will be done,” he said.
N’abavaako omulundi ogwokubiri akabanga n’agenda n’asaba ng’agamba nti, “Kitange! Oba tekisoboka ekikompe kino kuvaawo wabula Nze okukinywa, kale ky’oyagala kye kiba kikolebwa.”
43 He went back and found them sleeping, for they just couldn't stay awake.
N’akomawo nate gye bali n’abasanga nga beebase, kubanga amaaso gaabwe gaali gazitowa nga gajjudde otulo.
44 So he left them once more, and went off and prayed a third time, repeating the same things.
N’abaleka n’agenda asaba ebigambo bye bimu nga biri.
45 Then he returned to the disciples, and told them, “How can you still be sleeping and resting? Look, the time has come. The Son of man is about to be betrayed into the hands of sinners!
Ate n’akomawo awali abayigirizwa n’abagamba nti, “Kale mwebakire ddala, muwummule. Kyokka mumanye ng’ekiseera kituuse Omwana w’Omuntu aweebweyo mu mikono gy’abalina ebibi.
46 Get up, let's go! See, the one who's betraying me has arrived.”
Muzuukuke! Musituke tugende! Laba, omuntu agenda okundyamu olukwe wuuli ajja!”
47 As he said this, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived with a large mob armed with swords and clubs sent by the chief priests and elders of the people.
Laba Yesu yali akyayogera Yuda omu ku kkumi n’ababiri, n’atuuka ng’alina ekibiina ky’abantu abaali babagalidde ebitala n’emiggo nga batumiddwa bakabona abakulu n’abakulembeze b’Abayudaaya.
48 The betrayer had arranged to give them a signal: “The one that I kiss, that's him—arrest him,” he'd told them.
Eyali agenda okumulyamu olukwe yali abategeezezza akabonero nti omuntu gw’anaalamusa nga y’oyo gwe baali beetaaga, nga bamukwata.
49 Judas came up to Jesus immediately, and said, “Hello, Rabbi,” and kissed him.
Amangwago n’ajja eri Yesu n’amulamusa nti, “Mirembe, Labbi,” n’amugwa mu kifuba.
50 “My friend, do what you came to do,” Jesus said to Judas. So they came and grabbed hold of Jesus, and arrested him.
Yesu kwe kumugamba nti. “Munnange, kola ky’ojjiridde.” Awo abalala ne bakwata Yesu.
51 One of those who was with Jesus reached for his sword and pulled it out. He struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his ear.
Omuntu omu ku abo abaali ne Yesu n’asowolayo ekitala kye n’asalako okutu kw’omuweereza wa Kabona Asinga Obukulu.
52 But Jesus told him, “Put your sword away. Everyone who fights with the sword will die by the sword.
Naye Yesu n’amulagira nti, “Ekitala kyo kizzeeyo mu kiraato kyakyo. Kubanga abo abakozesa ebitala nabo bagenda kuttibwa na kitala.
53 Don't you think I could ask my Father, and he'd immediately send more than twelve legions of angels?
Tomanyi nti nnyinza okusaba Kitange bamalayika nkumi na nkumi okujja okutulwanirira?
54 But then how could the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must be like this?”
Naye singa nkola bwe ntyo, olwo Ebyawandiikibwa, ebyogera ku bino ebiriwo kaakano, binatuukirira bitya?”
55 Then Jesus told the mob, “Have you come with swords and clubs to arrest me as if I was some kind of dangerous criminal? Every day I sat in the Temple teaching and you didn't arrest me then.
Mu kiseera ekyo Yesu n’abuuza ekibiina nti, “Ndi ng’omumenyi w’amateeka ow’akabi ennyo, n’okujja ne mujja okunkwata nga mubagalidde ebitala n’emiggo? Nabeeranga nammwe nga njigiriza mu Yeekaalu buli lunaku, ne mutankwata.
56 But all this is happening to fulfill what the prophets wrote.” Then all the disciples abandoned him and ran away.
Naye kino kibaddewo okutuukiriza ebigambo bya bannabbi ebiri mu Byawandiikibwa.” Olwo abayigirizwa be bonna ne bamwabulira ne badduka.
57 Those who'd arrested Jesus took him to the home of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the religious teachers and elders had gathered.
Awo ekibiina ne kitwala Yesu ewa Kayaafa, Kabona Asinga Obukulu, n’abakulembeze b’Abayudaaya gye baali bakuŋŋaanidde.
58 Peter followed him at a distance, and went into the high priest's courtyard. He sat there with the guards to see how things would end.
Mu kiseera ekyo ne Peetero yali agoberera kyokka ng’ali walako emabega w’ekibiina; n’atuuka mu luggya lw’ennyumba ya Kabona Asinga Obukulu, n’atuula awaali abaweereza ng’alinda okutegeera ebinaavaayo.
59 The chief priests and the whole council were trying to find some false evidence against Jesus so they could put him to death.
Bakabona abakulu n’Abasaddukaayo bonna ne banoonya obujulizi obw’obulimba ku Yesu obunamuweesa ekibonerezo eky’okufa.
60 But they couldn't find anything, even though many false witnesses came forward. Eventually two came forward
Kyokka ne bafunayo batono ab’obujulirwa obw’obulimba. N’evumbukayo babiri
61 and reported, “This man said, ‘I can destroy God's Temple, and rebuild it in three days.’”
abeesimbawo okugamba nti, “Omuntu ono yagamba nti, ‘Nsobola okumenyawo Yeekaalu ya Katonda, ate ne ngizimba ne ngimalira mu nnaku ssatu.’”
62 The high priest stood up and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer? What do you have to say in your defense?”
Awo Kabona Asinga Obukulu n’ayimirira n’abuuza Yesu nti, “Tolina ky’oddamu ku bino abasajja bano bye bakuloopa?”
63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to Jesus, “In the name of the living God I place you under oath. Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”
Naye Yesu n’asirika busirisi. Ate Kabona Asinga Obukulu, n’amuddira ng’amugamba nti, “Nkulagira, mu linnya lya Katonda omulamu otutegeeze obanga Ggwe Kristo, Omwana wa Katonda.”
64 “You said it,” Jesus replied. “And I also tell you that in the future you'll see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the Almighty, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
Yesu n’addamu nti, “Okyogedde. Naye mbagamba nti, okuva ne kaakano mugenda kulaba Omwana w’Omuntu ng’atudde ku mukono ogwa ddyo ogwa Katonda, ng’akomawo ku bire eby’eggulu.”
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, and said, “He's speaking blasphemy! Why do we need any witnesses? Look, now you've heard for yourselves his blasphemy!
Kabona Asinga Obukulu, n’ayuza ebyambalo bye, n’agamba nti, “Kuno kuvvoola! Ate kati tukyetaagira ki abajulirwa abalala? Mwenna mumuwulidde ng’akyogera!
66 What's your verdict?” “Guilty! He deserves to die!” they answered.
Mumusalira mutya?” Ne baddamu nti, “Gumusinze! Asaanidde kufa!”
67 Then they spat in his face and beat him. Some of them slapped him with their hands,
Olwo ne bawandira Yesu amalusu mu maaso, abamu ne bamukuba ebikonde ne bamukuba empi,
68 and said, “Prophesy to us, you ‘Messiah’! Who just hit you?”
nga bwe bamugamba nti, “Tutegeeze, Kristo, akukubye y’aluwa?”
69 Meanwhile Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant girl came up to him, and said, “You were with Jesus the Galilean too!”
Mu kiseera ekyo Peetero yali atudde mu luggya. Awo omuweereza omuwala n’ajja awali Peetero n’amugamba nti, “Wali wamu ne Yesu, ow’e Ggaliraaya.”
70 But he denied it in front of everyone. “I don't know what you're talking about,” he said.
Naye Peetero ne yeegaana mu maaso ga buli omu ng’agamba nti, “Ky’oyogerako sikimanyi.”
71 When he went back to the courtyard entrance another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
Oluvannyumako nga Peetero ayimiridde okumpi n’oluggi olunene oluva mu luggya, omuwala omulala n’amulaba, n’agamba abo abaali bayimiridde awo nti, “Omusajja ono yali ne Yesu ow’e Nazaaleesi.”
72 Once again he denied it, saying with an oath, “I don't know him.”
Peetero era n’akyegaana, nga kw’atadde n’okulayira nga bw’agamba nti, “Nze oyo n’okumumanya simumanyi.”
73 A little while later the people standing there came up to Peter and said, “You definitely are one of them. Your accent gives you away.”
Naye nga wayiseewo akabanga, abasajja abaali bayimiridde awo ne bajja w’ali, ne bamugamba nti, “Ddala ddala oli omu ku bo, kubanga otegeerekeka olw’enjogera yo.”
74 Then he started to swear: “Curses on me if I'm a liar! I don't know the man!” Immediately the cock crowed.
Peetero n’atandika okulayira nate, ne yeeyongera okwegaana ng’agamba nti, “Omuntu simumanyi.” Amangwago enkoko n’ekookolima.
75 Then Peter remembered what Jesus had told him: “Before the cock crows, three times you will deny knowing me.” He went outside and wept bitterly.
Awo Peetero n’ajjukira ebigambo bya Yesu bye yali amugambye nti, “Enkoko eneeba tennakookolima onoonneegaana emirundi esatu.” N’afuluma ebweru ng’akaaba nnyo amaziga.
