Job 42

1 Then Job answered the Lord.

Allora Giobbe rispose al Signore e disse:

2 “I know you can do anything. No one can prevent you doing what you want.

Comprendo che puoi tutto e che nessuna cosa è impossibile per te.

3 You asked, ‘Who is this who questions my wisdom by talking so ignorantly?’ I was speaking about things I didn't understand—things too wonderful for me to know.

Chi è colui che, senza aver scienza, può oscurare il tuo consiglio? Ho esposto dunque senza discernimento cose troppo superiori a me, che io non comprendo.

4 You told me, ‘Listen to me, I am going to speak. I am going to question you, and you must answer me.’

«Ascoltami e io parlerò, io t'interrogherò e tu istruiscimi».

5 Before, I had only heard about you, but now I've seen you for myself.

Io ti conoscevo per sentito dire, ma ora i miei occhi ti vedono.

6 That is why I'm sorry for what I said, and I repent in dust and ashes.”

Perciò mi ricredo e ne provo pentimento sopra polvere e cenere.

7 After the Lord had finished speaking to Job he said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends because you have not told the truth about me, as my servant Job did.

Dopo che il Signore aveva rivolto queste parole a Giobbe, disse a Elifaz il Temanita: «La mia ira si è accesa contro di te e contro i tuoi due amici, perché non avete detto di me cose rette come il mio servo Giobbe.

8 So take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job, and you shall offer a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray on your behalf and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your foolishness, because you have not told the truth about me, as my servant Job did.”

Prendete dunque sette vitelli e sette montoni e andate dal mio servo Giobbe e offriteli in olocausto per voi; il mio servo Giobbe pregherà per voi, affinchè io, per riguardo a lui, non punisca la vostra stoltezza, perché non avete detto di me cose rette come il mio servo Giobbe».

9 So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite did what the Lord commanded them, and the Lord accepted Job's prayer.

Elifaz il Temanita, Bildad il Suchita e Zofar il Naamatita andarono e fecero come loro aveva detto il Signore e il Signore ebbe riguardo di Giobbe.

10 The Lord restored Job's prosperity when he prayed for his friends, and gave him twice as much as he had before.

Dio ristabilì Giobbe nello stato di prima, avendo egli pregato per i suoi amici; accrebbe anzi del doppio quanto Giobbe aveva posseduto.

11 Then all his brothers and sisters and friends he'd previously known came and ate with him at his home. They showed him sympathy and comforted him because of all the trouble the Lord had caused him. Each one of them gave him money and a gold ring.

Tutti i suoi fratelli, le sue sorelle e i suoi conoscenti di prima vennero a trovarlo e mangiarono pane in casa sua e lo commiserarono e lo consolarono di tutto il male che il Signore aveva mandato su di lui e gli regalarono ognuno una piastra e un anello d'oro.

12 The Lord blessed the last part of Job's life more than the first part. Now he owned 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.

Il Signore benedisse la nuova condizione di Giobbe più della prima ed egli possedette quattordicimila pecore e seimila cammelli, mille paia di buoi e mille asine.

13 Job also had seven sons and three daughters.

Ebbe anche sette figli e tre figlie.

14 Job called the first daughter Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-Happuch.

A una mise nome Colomba, alla seconda Cassia e alla terza Fiala di stibio.

15 Nowhere in all the land were there women as beautiful as Job's daughters, and Job gave them the same inheritance as their brothers.

In tutta la terra non si trovarono donne così belle come le figlie di Giobbe e il loro padre le mise a parte dell'eredità insieme con i loro fratelli.

16 Job lived 140 years after this, seeing his children, and grandchildren, in fact four generations.

Dopo tutto questo, Giobbe visse ancora centoquarant'anni e vide figli e nipoti di quattro generazioni.

17 Then Job died at an old age, having lived a very full life.

Poi Giobbe morì, vecchio e sazio di giorni.
