1 Corinthians 10
1 Now I want to explain this to you, brothers and sisters. Our forefathers lived under the cloud, and they all passed through the sea.
So will ich denn euch daran erinnern, Brüder, daß unsere Väter zwar alle unter der Wolke waren, und alle durch das Meer hindurch giengen,
2 Symbolically then they were baptized “into Moses” in the cloud and in the sea.
und alle die Taufe auf Moses empfiengen in der Wolke und im Meer,
3 They all ate the same spiritual food
und alle die gleiche geistliche Speise aßen,
4 and drank the same spiritual drink, for they “drank from a spiritual rock” that accompanied them. That rock was Christ.
und alle den gleichen geistlichen Trank tranken - denn sie tranken aus einem mitgehenden geistlichen Felsen, der Fels aber war der Christus -
5 However, God wasn't happy with most of them, and they perished in the desert.
aber Gott hatte an der Mehrzahl von ihnen kein Wohlgefallen; sie wurden niedergestreckt in der Wüste.
6 Now these experiences are examples to us to show us we should not desire what is evil, as they did.
Diese Dinge aber sind zum Vorbild für uns geschehen, damit wir nicht Böses begehren, wie jene begehrt haben.
7 You must not worship idols, as some of them did, as it's recorded in Scripture: “The people feasted and drank, and indulged in pagan worship.”
Werdet nicht Götzendiener, wie etliche von ihnen, von denen es heißt: das Volk lagerte sich zu essen und zu trinken und stand auf zu tanzen.
8 We must not commit sexual sins, as some of them did, and as a result 23,000 died in one day.
Noch lasset uns Unzucht treiben wie etliche von ihnen getrieben haben, und sind gefallen an einem Tag ihrer dreiundzwanzigtausend.
9 Nor should we push God to the limit, as some of them did, and were killed by snakes.
Noch lasset uns den Herrn versuchen, wie etliche von ihnen gethan, und wurden von den Schlangen weggerafft.
10 Don't complain at God, as some did, and died at the hands of the destroying angel.
Noch sollt ihr murren, wie etliche von ihnen gemurrt haben, und wurden von dem Verderber weggerafft.
11 All the things that happened to them are examples to us and were written down to warn us, we who are living close to the end of time. (aiōn g165)
Dies ist vorbildlich an ihnen geschehen, geschrieben aber ist es zur Warnung für uns, auf die das Endziel der Zeiten gekommen ist. (aiōn g165)
12 So if you think you're strong enough to stay standing—be careful you don't fall!
Darum, wer sich dünkt er stehe, der sehe zu, daß er nicht falle.
13 You won't experience any greater temptation than anyone else, and God is trustworthy. He won't allow you to be tempted more than you can bear, and when you are tempted, he will provide for you a way out so you can stay strong.
Euch hat noch keine andere als menschliche Versuchung betroffen; Gott ist getreu, der wird euch nicht versuchen lassen über euer Vermögen, sondern wie er die Versuchung macht, so wird er auch den Ausgang machen, nämlich daß ihr es durchführen könnt.
14 So my good friends, stay away from idol worship.
Darum, meine Geliebten, fliehet vor dem Götzendienst.
15 I'm talking to sensible people, so you decide whether I'm telling the truth.
Ich wende mich an eure eigene Einsicht: urteilt selbst, was ich sage.
16 When we give thanks for the cup we use in the Lord's Supper, don't we share in the blood of Christ? When we break the communion bread, don't we share in the body of Christ?
Der Becher des Segens, den wir segnen, ist er nicht Gemeinschaft des Blutes des Christus? Das Brot, das wir brechen, ist es nicht Gemeinschaft des Leibes des Christus?
17 By eating from one loaf of bread, we show that even though we are many, we are one body.
Denn Ein Brot ist es, so sind wir viele Ein Leib; denn alle teilen wir uns in das Eine Brot.
18 Look at the people of Israel. Don't those who eat the sacrifices made on the altar share together?
Sehet das Volk Israel, das im Fleische meine ich, an. Sind nicht die, welche die Opfer essen, Genossen des Altars?
19 What am I saying then? That anything sacrificed to idols means anything, or that an idol has any real existence? Of course not!
Was folgt nun? Daß das Götzenopfer etwas sei? oder daß der Götze etwas sei?
20 The pagans are sacrificing to demons, and not to God. I don't want you to have anything to do with demons!
Nein, aber daß sie das Opfer, das sie bringen, den Dämonen bringen und nicht Gott. Ich will aber nicht, daß ihr in die Gemeinschaft der Dämonen kommt.
21 You can't drink the Lord's cup as well as the cup of demons; you can't eat from the Lord's table as well as the table of demons.
Ihr könnt nicht den Becher des Herrn trinken und den Becher der Dämonen; ihr könnt nicht am Tische des Herrn Teil haben und am Tische der Dämonen.
22 Are we trying to make the Lord jealous? Are we stronger than he is?
Oder wollen wir den Herrn herausfordern? Sind wir stärker als er?
23 Some say, “I'm free to do anything”—but not everything is appropriate! “I'm free to do anything”—but not everything is constructive!
Es ist alles erlaubt, aber es frommt nicht alles. Es ist alles erlaubt, aber es erbaut nicht alles.
24 You shouldn't look out for yourself, but for your neighbor.
Keiner suche das Seine, sondern das, was des andern ist.
25 Eat whatever is sold in the market without asking questions because of your conscience,
Esset alles, was auf dem Markte verkauft wird, ohne nachzuforschen, Gewissens wegen.
26 for “the earth and everything in it belong to God.”
Die Erde und ihre Fülle ist des Herrn.
27 If a non-Christian invites you to a meal, and you feel like going, eat whatever you are served, without asking questions because of your conscience.
Werdet ihr von einem Ungläubigen eingeladen und wollt hingehen, so esset alles was euch vorgesetzt wird, ohne nachzuforschen, Gewissens wegen.
28 But if someone tells you, “This food has been sacrificed to idols,” don't eat it for the sake of the one who mentioned it and for conscience' sake.
Wenn aber einer zu euch sagt: das hier ist Opferfleisch, dann esset es nicht, wegen dessen, der es kund thut, und wegen des Gewissens.
29 His conscience I mean, not yours. For why should my freedom be determined by someone else's conscience?
Ich meine nicht das eigene Gewissen, sondern das des andern. Denn warum soll ich Anlaß geben, daß meine Freiheit von einem fremden Gewissen gerichtet wird?
30 If I choose to eat with thankfulness, why should I be criticized for eating what I'm thankful to God for?
Kann ich für meine Person etwas mit Dank genießen: warum soll ich mich der Lästerung aussetzen über dem, wofür ich danke?
31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, make sure to do everything to the glory of God.
Ob ihr nun esset oder trinket, oder was ihr thut, so thut es alles Gott zum Preis.
32 Don't cause offense, whether it's to Jews or Greeks or the church of God—
Haltet euch ohne Anstoß bei Juden und Griechen und bei der Gemeinde Gottes,
33 just as I try to please everybody in all I do. I don't think of what benefits me, but what benefits others, so that they may be saved.
so wie auch ich allen zu Gefallen bin in allen Stücken, indem ich nicht suche, was mir gut ist, sondern was der Menge gut ist, damit sie gerettet werden.
