Psalms 33
1 A psalm for David. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just: praise becometh the upright.
Justes, réjouissez-vous en Yahweh! Aux hommes droits sied la louange.
2 Give praise to the Lord on the harp; sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings.
Célébrez Yahweh avec la harpe, chantez-le sur le luth à dix cordes.
3 Sing to him a new canticle, sing well unto him with a loud noise.
Chantez à sa gloire un cantique nouveau; unissez avec art vos instruments et vos voix.
4 For the word of the Lord is right, and all his works are done with faithfulness.
Car la parole de Yahweh est droite, et toutes ses œuvres s'accomplissent dans la fidélité.
5 He loveth mercy and judgment; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.
il aime la justice et la droiture; la terre est remplie de la bonté de Yahweh.
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the power of them by the spirit of his mouth:
Par la parole de Yahweh les cieux ont été faits, et toute leur armée par le souffle de sa bouche.
7 Gathering together the waters of the sea, as in a vessel; laying up the depths in storehouses.
Il rassemble comme en un monceau les eaux de la mer; il met dans des réservoirs les flots de l'abîme.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord, and let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of him.
Que toute la terre craigne Yahweh! Que tous les habitants de l'univers tremblent devant lui!
9 For he spoke and they were made: he commanded and they were created.
Car il a dit, et tout a été fait; il a ordonné, et tout a existé.
10 The Lord bringeth to naught the counsels of nations; and he rejecteth the devices of people, and casteth away the counsels of princes.
Yahweh renverse les desseins des nations; il réduit à néant les pensées des peuples.
11 But the counsel of the Lord standeth for ever: the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
Mais les desseins de Yahweh subsistent à jamais et les pensées de son cœur dans toutes les générations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord: the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance.
Heureuse la nation dont Yahweh est le Dieu, heureux le peuple qu'il a choisi pour son héritage!
13 The Lord hath looked from heaven: he hath beheld all the sons of men.
Du haut des cieux Yahweh regarde, il voit tous les enfants des hommes;
14 From his habitation which he hath prepared, he hath looked upon all that dwell on the earth.
du lieu de sa demeure, il observe tous les habitants de la terre,
15 He who hath made the hearts of every one of them: who understandeth all their works.
lui qui forme leur cœur à tous, qui est attentif à toutes leurs actions.
16 The king is not saved by a great army: nor shall the giant be saved by his own great strength.
Ce n'est pas le nombre des soldats qui donne au roi la victoire, ce n'est pas une grande force qui fait triompher le guerrier.
17 Vain is the horse for safety: neither shall he be saved by the abundance of his strength.
Le cheval est impuissant à procurer le salut, et toute sa vigueur n'assure pas la délivrance.
18 Behold the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him: and on them that hope in his mercy.
L'œil de Yahweh est sur ceux qui le craignent, sur ceux qui espèrent en sa bonté,
19 To deliver their souls from death; and feed them in famine.
pour délivrer leur âme de la mort, et les faire vivre au temps de la famine.
20 Our soul waiteth for the Lord: for he is our helper and protector.
Notre âme attend avec confiance Yahweh; il est notre secours et notre bouclier;
21 For in him our heart shall rejoice: and in his holy name we have trusted.
car en lui notre cœur met sa joie, car en son saint nom nous mettons notre confiance.
22 Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we have hoped in thee.
Yahweh, que ta grâce soit sur nous, comme nous espérons en toi!
