Psalms 118

1 Give praise to Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

(Gesang der Festgemeinde auf dem Wege zum Tempelberg: ) / (1. Chor: ) / Danket Jahwe, denn er ist gütig, / (2. Chor: ) / Ja, ewig währet seine Huld.

2 Let Israel now say that he is good: that his mercy endureth for ever.

(1. Chor: ) / Es spreche Israel: / (2. Chor: ) / "Ja, ewig währet seine Huld."

3 Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

(1. Chor: ) / Es spreche Aarons Haus: / (2. Chor: ) / "Ja, ewig währet seine Huld."

4 Let them that fear the Lord now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

(1. Chor: ) / Es mögen alle sprechen, die Jahwe fürchten: / (2. Chor: ) / "Ja, ewig währet seine Huld."

5 In my trouble I called upon the Lord: and the Lord heard me, and enlarged me.

(Der Chorführer allein im Namen der ganzen Festgemeinde: ) / Als ich aus der Bedrängnis Jahwe anrief, / Da erhörte mich Jah und machte mich frei.

6 The Lord is my helper, I will not fear what man can do unto me.

Ist Jahwe mit mir, so fürchte ich nichts: / Was können mir Menschen tun?

7 The Lord is my helper: and I will look over my enemies.

Tritt Jahwe für mich als Helfer auf, / So schau ich siegreich auf meine Hasser.

8 It is good to confide in the Lord, rather than to have confidence in man.

(Eine Einzelstimme des Festchors: ) / Es ist besser, bei Jahwe Zuflucht zu suchen / (Der ganze Chor: ) / Als zu vertrauen auf Menschen.

9 It is good to trust in the Lord, rather than to trust in princes.

(Eine Einzelstimme des Festchors: ) / Es ist besser, bei Jahwe Zuflucht zu suchen / (Der ganze Chor: ) / Als zu vertrauen auf Fürsten.

10 All nations compassed me about; and in the name of the Lord I have been revenged on them.

(Der siegreiche Feldherr allein: ) / Es haben mich alle Heiden umringt, / Doch in Jahwes Namen zerhieb ich sie.

11 Surrounding me they compassed me about: and in the name of the Lord I have been revenged on them.

Sie haben mich umringt, ja immer wieder umringt; / Doch in Jahwes Namen zerhieb ich sie.

12 They surrounded me like bees, and they burned like fire among thorns: and in the name of the Lord I was revenged on them.

Sie haben mich sogar wie Bienen umringt, / Doch wie ein Dornenfeuer sind sie erloschen: / In Jahwes Namen zerhieb ich sie.

13 Being pushed I was overturned that I might fall: but the Lord supported me.

Man hat mich zwar heftig gestoßen, damit ich käme zu Fall, / Doch Jahwe hat mir geholfen.

14 The Lord is my strength and my praise: and he is become my salvation.

Mein Sieg und mein Sang war Jah, / Er ward meine Rettung.

15 The voice of rejoicing and of salvation is in the tabernacles of the just.

(Eine Einzelstimme des Festchors: ) / Ein Jubel- und Siegesruf schallt in den Zelten der Frommen: / (Der ganze Festchor: ) / "Jahwes Rechte tut mächtige Taten.

16 The right hand of the Lord hath wrought strength: the right hand of the Lord hath exulted me: the right hand of the Lord hath wrought strength.

Jahwes Recht ist hoch erhoben, / Jahwes Rechte tut mächtige Taten."

17 I shall not die, but live: and shall declare the works of the Lord.

(Eine Einzelstimme des Festchors: ) / Ich werde nicht sterben, sondern leben / Und verkünden die Werke Jahs.

18 The Lord chastising hath chastised me: but he hath not delivered me over to death.

(Der siegreiche Feldherr allein nach der Ankunft des Festzuges vor den Tempeltoren: ) / Hart zwar hat Jah mich gezüchtigt, / Aber dem Tod mich nicht preisgegeben.

19 Open ye to me the gates of justice: I will go into them, and give praise to the Lord.

Tut mir die Tore auf, durch die nur Gerechte ziehn; / Eingehn will ich in sie, ich will Jah danken!

20 This is the gate of the Lord, the just shall enter into it.

Dies ist das Tor, das zu Jahwe führt: / Gerechte dürfen hier eingehn.

21 I will give glory to thee because thou hast heard me: and art become my salvation.

(Der siegreiche Feldherr allein: ) / Dir dank ich, daß du mich erhört / Und mir Errettung gebracht hast.

22 The stone which the builders rejected; the same is become the head of the corner.

(Der Chor der Priester vom Tempel aus: ) / Der Stein, den die Bauleute verworfen haben, / Der ist zum Eckstein geworden.

23 This is the Lord’s doing: and it is wonderful in our eyes.

(Der ganze Festchor: ) / Von Jahwe ist dies geschehn: / Wunderbar ist es in unsern Augen.

24 This is the day which the Lord hath made: let us be glad and rejoice therein.

(Der Chor der Priester: ) / Dies ist der Tag, den Jahwe gemacht. / Laßt uns jubeln und sein uns freun!

25 O Lord, save me: O Lord, give good success.

(Der ganze Festchor: ) / Ach, Jahwe, gewähre doch Hilfe! / Ach, Jahwe, gib doch Gedeihn!

26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name Lord. We have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.

(Der Chor der Priester antwortet darauf: ) / Gesegnet sei er, der da kommt, mit Jahwes Namen! / Wir haben euch gesegnet von Jahwes Tempel aus.

27 The Lord is God, and he hath shone upon us. Appoint a solemn day, with shady boughs, even to the horn of the alter.

(Der ganze Festchor: ) / Ein starker Gott ist Jahwe: er hat uns Licht gespendet. / (Der Chor der Priester: ) / Bindet die Opfertiere so zahlreich an mit Stricken, / (Daß sie den Vorhof füllen) / Bis an die Hörner des Altars!

28 Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, and I will exalt thee. I will praise thee, because thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.

(Der siegreiche Feldherr allein: ) / Mein starker Gott bist du: ich will dir danken. / Du bist mein Gott: dich will ich rühmen.

29 O praise ye the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

(Der ganze Festchor und der Chor der Priester, also die ganze Festversammlung mit einem Munde: ) / Danket Jahwe, denn er ist gütig; / Ja, ewig währet seine Huld!
