Psalms 79

1 A Psalm of Asaph. O God, the nations are come into thine inheritance: thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem in heaps.

Gott, Völkerschaften sind gekommen in Dein Erbe, sie haben verunreinigt den Tempel Deiner Heiligkeit, haben Jerusalem gelegt in Trümmer.

2 The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowl of the heavens, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth:

Die Leichname Deiner Knechte gaben sie zum Fraß dem Gevögel der Himmel, das Fleisch Deiner Heiligen dem wilden Tier der Erde.

3 Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem, and there was none to bury [them].

Ihr Blut vergossen sie wie Wasser rings um Jerusalem, und niemand begrub sie.

4 We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a mockery and a derision to them that are round about us.

Zur Schmach wurden wir unseren Nachbarn, zum Gelächter und Schimpf denen, die um uns sind.

5 How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou be angry for ever? Shall thy jealousy burn like fire?

Wie lange, Jehovah, willst Du zürnen, immerfort, wird wie Feuer Dein Eifer brennen?

6 Pour out thy fury upon the nations that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that call not upon thy name:

Gieß deinen Grimm aus auf die Völkerschaften, die Dich nicht kennen, und auf die Königreiche, die Deinen Namen nicht anrufen!

7 For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his habitation.

Denn Jakob haben sie gefressen und seine Wohnorte verwüstet.

8 Remember not against us the iniquities of [our] forefathers; let thy tender mercies speedily come to meet us: for we are brought very low.

Gedenke uns nicht der früheren Missetaten. Eile, laß Deine Erbarmungen uns entgegenkommen, denn sehr arm sind wir.

9 Help us, O God of our salvation, because of the glory of thy name; and deliver us, and forgive our sins, for thy name's sake.

Stehe uns bei, Gott unseres Heils, um des Wortes der Herrlichkeit Deines Namens willen, und errette uns und sühne unsere Sünden um Deines Namens willen.

10 Wherefore should the nations say, Where is their God? Let the avenging of the blood of thy servants that is shed be known among the nations in our sight.

Warum sprechen die Völkerschaften: Wo ist ihr Gott? Lasse kundbar werden unter den Völkerschaften vor unseren Augen die Rache des Blutes Deiner Knechte, das vergossen ward!

11 Let the groaning of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thine arm, preserve those that are appointed to die;

Laß vor Dich kommen den Angstruf des Gebundenen; nach Deines Armes Größe lasse übrigbleiben des Todes Söhne.

12 And render unto our neighbours, sevenfold into their bosom, their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord.

Und siebenfach gib zurück in ihren Busen unseren Nachbarn ihr Schmähen, womit sie Dich schmähten, Herr.

13 And we, thy people and the sheep of thy pasture, will give thanks unto thee for ever; we will shew forth thy praise from generation to generation.

Wir aber, Dein Volk und die Herde Deiner Weide, wollen Dich bekennen in Ewigkeit, von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht Dein Lob erzählen.
