Proverbs 18
1 He that separateth himself seeketh [his] pleasure, he is vehement against all sound wisdom.
El hombre que se aísla persigue el egoísmo, y desafía todo buen juicio.
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may reveal itself.
El necio no se deleita en el entendimiento, pero sólo para revelar su propia opinión.
3 When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
Cuando llega la maldad, llega también el desprecio, y con la vergüenza viene la desgracia.
4 The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, [and] the fountain of wisdom is a gushing brook.
Las palabras de la boca del hombre son como aguas profundas. La fuente de la sabiduría es como un arroyo que fluye.
5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to wrong the righteous in judgment.
Ser parcial con las caras de los malvados no es bueno, ni para privar a los inocentes de la justicia.
6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for stripes.
Los labios de un necio entran en disputa, y su boca invita a los golpes.
7 A fool's mouth is destruction to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
La boca del necio es su perdición, y sus labios son una trampa para su alma.
8 The words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
Las palabras de un chismoso son como bocados delicados: bajan a lo más íntimo de la persona.
9 He also who is indolent in his work is brother of the destroyer.
El que es flojo en su trabajo es hermano de aquel que es maestro de la destrucción.
10 The name of Jehovah is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
El nombre de Yahvé es una torre fuerte: los justos corren hacia él, y están a salvo.
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own imagination.
La riqueza del rico es su ciudad fuerte, como un muro inescalable en su propia imaginación.
12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty; and before honour [goeth] humility.
Antes de la destrucción, el corazón del hombre es orgulloso, pero antes del honor está la humildad.
13 He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.
El que responde antes de escuchar, que es una locura y una vergüenza para él.
14 The spirit of a man sustaineth his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?
El espíritu del hombre lo sostendrá en la enfermedad, pero un espíritu aplastado, ¿quién puede soportarlo?
15 The heart of an intelligent [man] getteth knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
El corazón del que discierne obtiene conocimiento. El oído del sabio busca el conocimiento.
16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
El regalo de un hombre le da cabida, y lo lleva ante los grandes hombres.
17 He that is first in his own cause [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
El que defiende su causa primero parece tener razón. hasta que llega otro y lo interroga.
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
El lote resuelve las disputas, y mantiene separados a los fuertes.
19 A brother offended is [harder to be won] than a strong city; and contentions are as the bars of a palace.
Un hermano ofendido es más difícil que una ciudad fortificada. Las disputas son como los barrotes de una fortaleza.
20 A man's belly is satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips is he satisfied.
El estómago del hombre se llena con el fruto de su boca. Con la cosecha de sus labios está satisfecho.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
La muerte y la vida están en poder de la lengua; los que la aman comerán su fruto.
22 Whoso hath found a wife hath found a good thing, and hath obtained favour from Jehovah.
Quien encuentra una esposa, encuentra algo bueno, y obtiene el favor de Yahvé.
23 He that is poor speaketh with supplications, but the rich answereth roughly.
Los pobres piden clemencia, pero los ricos responden con dureza.
24 A man of [many] friends will come to ruin but there is a friend [that] sticketh closer than a brother.
Un hombre con muchos compañeros puede arruinarse, pero hay un amigo que está más cerca que un hermano.
