Luke 11
1 And it came to pass as he was in a certain place praying, when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, even as John also taught his disciples.
Et il advint, pendant qu'il était lui-même en prière en quelque endroit, que, lorsqu'il eut fini, l'un de ses disciples lui dit: « Seigneur, enseigne-nous à prier, comme Jean aussi l'a enseigné à ses disciples. »
2 And he said to them, When ye pray, say, Father, thy name be hallowed; thy kingdom come;
Or il leur dit: « Quand vous priez, dites: « Père, que Ton nom soit sanctifié; que Ton royaume vienne;
3 give us our needed bread for each day;
donne-nous chaque jour le pain de notre subsistance,
4 and remit us our sins, for we also remit to every one indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation.
et remets-nous nos péchés, car nous aussi nous remettons à tous ceux qui nous doivent; et ne nous expose pas à la tentation. »
5 And he said to them, Who among you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight and say to him, Friend, let me have three loaves,
Et il leur dit: « Lequel de vous, ayant un ami et s'étant rendu auprès de lui sur le minuit pour lui dire: « Ami, prête-moi trois pains,
6 since a friend of mine on a journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him;
parce qu'un mien ami venant de voyage est arrivé chez moi, et je n'ai rien à lui offrir;
7 and he within answering should say, Do not disturb me; the door is already shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise up to give [it] thee?
et l'autre lui ayant répondu de l'intérieur: « Ne me dérange pas, ma porte est déjà fermée, et mes petits enfants sont au lit avec moi, je ne puis pas me lever pour t'en donner… »
8 — I say to you, Although he will not get up and give [them] to him because he is his friend, because of his shamelessness, at any rate, he will rise and give him as many as he wants.
Je vous déclare que, quoiqu'il ne se lève pas pour lui en donner comme étant son ami, du moins à cause de son indiscrétion il se lèvera pour lui en donner autant qu'il en demande.
9 And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.
Eh bien, moi je vous dis, demandez et on vous donnera; cherchez et vous trouverez; heurtez et on vous ouvrira;
10 For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it will be opened.
car quiconque demande reçoit, et qui cherche trouve, et à celui qui heurte, on ouvre.
11 But of whom of you that is a father shall a son ask bread, and [the father] shall give him a stone? or also a fish, and instead of a fish shall give him a serpent?
Quel est parmi vous le père auquel son fils demandera un poisson, et qui, à la place d'un poisson, lui donnera un serpent?
12 or if also he shall ask an egg, shall give him a scorpion?
Ou encore, qui, s'il lui demande un œuf, lui donnera un scorpion?
13 If therefore ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much rather shall the Father who is of heaven give [the] Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Si donc vous, tout méchants que vous êtes, savez donner de bons présents à vos enfants, à combien plus forte raison le Père céleste donnera-t-Il l'Esprit saint à ceux qui le Lui demandent? »
14 And he was casting out a demon, and it was dumb; and it came to pass, the demon being gone out, the dumb [man] spoke. And the crowds wondered.
Et il chassait un démon muet; or il advint, lorsque le démon fut sorti, que le muet parla; et la foule fut émerveillée.
15 But some from among them said, By Beelzebub the prince of the demons casts he out demons.
Mais quelques-uns d'entre eux dirent: « C'est grâce à Béézéboul, le chef des démons, qu'il chasse les démons. »
16 And others tempting [him] sought from him a sign out of heaven.
Mais d'autres, pour le mettre à l'épreuve, lui demandaient un signe qui vînt du ciel.
17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation: and a house set against a house falls;
Mais lui, connaissant leurs pensées, leur dit: « Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même est dévasté, et on y voit tomber maison sur maison;
18 and if also Satan is divided against himself, how shall his kingdom subsist? because ye say that I cast out demons by Beelzebub.
or si Satan aussi s'est divisé contre lui-même, comment son royaume subsistera-t-il? Car vous dites que c'est grâce à Béézéboul que je chasse les démons;
19 But if I by Beelzebub cast out demons, your sons — by whom do they cast [them] out? For this reason they shall be your judges.
mais si moi c'est grâce à Béézéboul que je chasse les démons, vos fils, grâce à qui les chassent-ils? C'est pourquoi ce sont eux qui seront vos juges.
20 But if by the finger of God I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God is come upon you.
Mais si c'est par le doigt de Dieu que moi je chasse les démons, le royaume de Dieu est donc parvenu jusqu'à vous.
21 When the strong [man] armed keeps his own house, his goods are in peace;
Lorsque l'homme fort, bien armé, garde sa propre cour, ce qu'il possède est en sûreté;
22 but when the stronger than he coming upon [him] overcomes him, he takes away his panoply in which he trusted, and he will divide the spoil [he has taken] from him.
mais s'il arrive qu'un plus fort que lui survienne et le vainque, il s'empare de toutes les armes auxquelles il se confiait, et il distribue ses dépouilles.
23 He that is not with me is against me, and he that gathers not with me scatters.
Celui qui n'est pas avec moi est contre moi, et celui qui ne rassemble pas avec moi disperse.
24 When the unclean spirit has gone out of the man, he goes through dry places seeking rest; and not finding [any] he says, I will return to my house whence I came out.
Quand l'esprit impur est sorti de l'homme, il parcourt les lieux arides, cherchant du repos, et n'en trouvant pas, il dit alors: « Je retournerai dans ma maison, d'où je suis sorti. »
25 And having come, he finds it swept and adorned.
Et y revenant, il la trouve en paix, balayée et ornée.
26 Then he goes and takes seven other spirits worse than himself, and entering in, they dwell there; and the last condition of that man becomes worse than the first.
Alors il va et prend sept autres esprits plus méchants que lui-même, et après être entrés, ils y habitent; et la nouvelle condition de cet homme devient pire que la première. »
27 And it came to pass as he spake these things, a certain woman, lifting up her voice out of the crowd, said to him, Blessed is the womb that has borne thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
Or il advint, pendant qu'il disait ces choses, qu'une femme, élevant sa voix du milieu de la foule, lui dit: « Heureux le sein qui t'a porté et les mamelles qui t'ont allaité! »
28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God and keep [it].
Mais il dit: « Heureux bien plutôt ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et qui l'observent! »
29 But as the crowds thronged together, he began to say, This generation is a wicked generation: it seeks a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it but the sign of Jonas.
Or comme la foule grossissait, il se mit à dire: « Cette génération est méchante; elle réclame un signe, et il ne lui sera donné d'autre signe que le signe de Jonas;
30 For as Jonas was a sign to the Ninevites, thus shall also the Son of man be to this generation.
car, de même que Jonas fut un signe pour les Ninévites, de même le fils de l'homme en sera aussi un pour cette génération.
31 A queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and shall condemn them: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, more than Solomon is here.
La reine du Midi ressuscitera lors du jugement avec les hommes de cette génération, et elle les condamnera; car elle vint des extrémités de la terre pour entendre la sagesse de Salomon, et voici, il y a ici plus que Salomon.
32 Men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and behold, more than Jonas is here.
Les hommes de Ninive ressusciteront lors du jugement avec cette génération, et ils la condamneront; car ils se sont repentis à la prédication de Jonas, et voici, il y a ici plus que Jonas,
33 But no one having lit a lamp sets it in secret, nor under the corn-measure, but on the lamp-stand, that they who enter in may see the light.
Personne, après avoir allumé une lampe, ne la place dans un souterrain, ni sous le boisseau, mais sur son support, afin que ceux qui entrent en voient la lumière.
34 The lamp of the body is thine eye: when thine eye is simple, thy whole body also is light; but when it is wicked, thy body also is dark.
Ton œil est la lampe du corps; quand ton œil est sain, tout ton corps aussi est illuminé, mais quand il est malade, ton corps aussi est ténébreux.
35 See therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
Prends donc garde que la lumière qui est en toi ne soit ténèbres.
36 If therefore thy whole body [is] light, not having any part dark, it shall be all light as when the lamp lights thee with its brightness.
Si donc tout ton corps est illuminé, n'ayant rien de ténébreux, il sera entièrement illuminé, comme lorsque la lampe t'éclaire par son rayonnement. »
37 But as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him that he would dine with him; and entering in he placed himself at table.
Or, pendant qu'il parlait, un pharisien le sollicite de faire collation chez lui; et y étant entré il se mit à table.
38 But the Pharisee seeing [it] wondered that he had not first washed before dinner.
Ce que le pharisien ayant vu, il fut étonné de ce qu'il ne s'était pas d'abord lavé avant la collation.
39 But the Lord said to him, Now do ye Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but your inward [parts] are full of plunder and wickedness.
Mais le seigneur lui dit: « Maintenant vous autres pharisiens vous nettoyez le dehors de la coupe et du plat, mais votre dedans est rempli de rapine et de méchanceté.
40 Fools, has not he who has made the outside made the inside also?
Insensés! Est-ce que Celui qui a fait le dehors n'a pas fait aussi le dedans?
41 But rather give alms of what ye have, and behold, all things are clean to you.
Eh bien, donnez-en le contenu en aumônes, et voici, tout est net pour vous.
42 But woe unto you, Pharisees, for ye pay tithes of mint and rue and every herb, and pass by the judgment and the love of God: these ye ought to have done, and not have left those aside.
Mais malheur à vous, pharisiens, car vous payez la dîme de la menthe, et de la rue, et de toutes les plantes potagères, et vous méprisez le jugement et l'amour de Dieu. Mais ce sont ces choses-ci qu'il fallait pratiquer, sans toutefois négliger celles-là.
43 Woe unto you, Pharisees, for ye love the first seat in the synagogues and salutations in the market-places.
Malheur à vous, pharisiens, car vous aimez le premier siège dans les synagogues et les salutations dans les places publiques.
44 Woe unto you, for ye are as the sepulchres which appear not, and the men walking over them do not know [it].
Malheur à vous, car vous êtes comme les sépulcres masqués, et les hommes en marchant dessus ne s'en doutent pas. »
45 And one of the doctors of the law answering says to him, Teacher, in saying these things thou insultest us also.
Or un des légistes prenant la parole, lui dit: « Maître, en parlant de la sorte tu nous insultes aussi. »
46 And he said, To you also woe, doctors of the law, for ye lay upon men burdens heavy to bear, and yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.
Mais il dit: « Malheur aussi à vous autres légistes, car vous chargez les hommes de fardeaux intolérables, et vous-mêmes vous ne touchez pas ces fardeaux d'un seul de vos doigts.
47 Woe unto you, for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, but your fathers killed them.
Malheur à vous, car vous bâtissez les tombeaux des prophètes, et ce sont vos pères qui les ont fait mourir!
48 Ye bear witness then, and consent to the works of your fathers; for they killed them, and ye build [their sepulchres].
Vous donnez donc votre témoignage et votre approbation aux œuvres de vos pères, car, tandis que de leur côté ils les ont fait mourir, du vôtre vous bâtissez!
49 For this reason also the wisdom of God has said, I will send to them prophets and apostles, and of these shall they kill and drive out by persecution,
C'est pourquoi aussi la sagesse de Dieu a dit: Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres, dont ils tueront les uns et poursuivront les autres,
50 that the blood of all the prophets which has been poured out from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,
afin qu'on redemande compte à cette génération du sang de tous les prophètes, versé dès la fondation du monde,
51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the house; yea, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.
depuis le sang d'Abel jusques au sang de Zacharie qui fut mis à mort entre l'autel et la maison. Oui, je vous le déclare, on en demandera compte à cette génération.
52 Woe unto you, the doctors of the law, for ye have taken away the key of knowledge; yourselves have not entered in, and those who were entering in ye have hindered.
Malheur à vous légistes, car vous avez enlevé la clef de la connaissance; vous-mêmes n'êtes pas entrés et vous avez empêché ceux qui voulaient entrer. »
53 And as he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him urgently, and to make him speak of many things;
Et après qu'il fut sorti de là, les scribes et les pharisiens se mirent à l'obséder d'une manière terrible, et à le presser de questions,
54 watching him, [and seeking] to catch something out of his mouth, [that they might accuse him].
en lui dressant des pièges, pour attraper quelque parole sortie de sa bouche.
