Matthew 18
1 In that hour, the disciples drew near to Jesus, saying, “Whom do you consider to be greater in the kingdom of heaven?”
En cette même heure-là les Disciples vinrent à Jésus, en lui disant: qui est le plus grand au Royaume des cieux?
2 And Jesus, calling to himself a little child, placed him in their midst.
Et Jésus ayant appelé un petit enfant, le mit au milieu d'eux,
3 And he said: “Amen I say to you, unless you change and become like little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Et leur dit: en vérité je vous dis, que si vous n'êtes changés, et si vous ne devenez comme de petits enfants, vous n'entrerez point dans le Royaume des cieux.
4 Therefore, whoever will have humbled himself like this little child, such a one is greater in the kingdom of heaven.
C'est pourquoi quiconque deviendra humble, comme est ce petit enfant, celui-là est le plus grand au Royaume des cieux.
5 And whoever shall accept one such little child in my name, accepts me.
Et quiconque reçoit un tel petit enfant en mon Nom, il me reçoit.
6 But whoever will have led astray one of these little ones, who trust in me, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck, and to be submerged in the depths of the sea.
Mais quiconque scandalise un de ces petits qui croient en moi, il lui vaudrait mieux qu'on lui pendît une meule d'âne au cou, et qu'on le jetât au fond de la mer.
7 Woe to a world that leads people astray! Although it is necessary for temptations to arise, nevertheless: Woe to that man through whom temptation arises!
Malheur au monde à cause des scandales; car il est infaillible qu'il n'arrive des scandales; toutefois malheur à l'homme par qui le scandale arrive.
8 So if your hand or your foot leads you to sin, cut it off and cast it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life disabled or lame, than to be sent into eternal fire having two hands or two feet. (aiōnios g166)
Que si ta main ou ton pied te fait broncher, coupe-les, et jette-les loin de toi; car il vaut mieux que tu entres boiteux ou manchot dans la vie, que d'avoir deux pieds ou deux mains, et d'être jeté au feu éternel. (aiōnios g166)
9 And if your eye leads you to sin, root it out and cast it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, than to be sent into the fires of Hell having two eyes. (Geenna g1067)
Et si ton œil te fait broncher, arrache-le, et jette-le loin de toi; car il vaut mieux que tu entres dans la vie n'ayant qu'un œil, que d'avoir deux yeux, et d'être jeté dans la géhenne du feu. (Geenna g1067)
10 See to it that you do not despise even one of these little ones. For I say to you, that their Angels in heaven continually look upon the face of my Father, who is in heaven.
Prenez garde de ne mépriser aucun de ces petits, car je vous dis, que dans les cieux leurs Anges regardent toujours la face de mon Père qui est aux cieux.
11 For the Son of man has come to save what had been lost.
Car le Fils de l'homme est venu pour sauver ce qui était perdu.
12 How does it seem to you? If someone has one hundred sheep, and if one of them has gone astray, should he not leave behind the ninety-nine in the mountains, and go out to seek what has gone astray?
Que vous en semble? Si un homme a cent brebis, et qu'il y en ait une qui se soit égarée, ne laisse-t-il pas les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf, pour s'en aller dans les montagnes chercher celle qui s'est égarée?
13 And if he should happen to find it: Amen I say to you, that he has more joy over that one, than over the ninety-nine which did not go astray.
Et s'il arrive qu'il la trouve, en vérité je vous dis, qu'il en a plus de joie, que des quatre-vingt-dix-neuf qui ne se sont point égarées.
14 Even so, it is not the will before your Father, who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should be lost.
Ainsi la volonté de votre Père qui est aux cieux n'est pas qu'un seul de ces petits périsse.
15 But if your brother has sinned against you, go and correct him, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you will have regained your brother.
Que si ton frère a péché contre toi, va, et reprends-le entre toi et lui seul; s'il t'écoute, tu as gagné ton frère.
16 But if he will not listen you, invite with you one or two more, so that every word may stand by the mouth of two or three witnesses.
Mais s'il ne t'écoute point, prends encore avec toi une ou deux [personnes]; afin qu'en la bouche de deux ou de trois témoins toute parole soit ferme.
17 And if he will not listen to them, tell the Church. But if he will not listen to the Church, let him be to you like the pagan and the tax collector.
Que s'il ne daigne pas les écouter, dis-le à l'Eglise; et s'il ne daigne pas écouter l'Eglise, qu'il te soit comme un païen et comme un péager.
18 Amen I say to you, whatever you will have bound on earth, shall be bound also in heaven, and whatever you will have released on earth, shall be released also in heaven.
En vérité je vous dis, que tout ce que vous aurez lié sur la terre, sera lié dans le ciel; et tout ce que vous aurez délié sur la terre, sera délié dans le ciel.
19 Again I say to you, that if two of those among you have agreed on earth, about anything whatsoever that they have requested, it shall be done for them by my Father, who is in heaven.
Je vous dis aussi, que si deux d'entre vous s'accordent sur la terre, tout ce qu'ils demanderont leur sera donné par mon Père qui est aux cieux.
20 For wherever two or three are gathered in my name, there am I, in their midst.”
Car là où il y en a deux ou trois assemblés en mon Nom, je suis là au milieu d'eux.
21 Then Peter, drawing near to him, said: “Lord, how many times shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Even seven times?”
Alors Pierre s'approchant, lui dit: Seigneur, jusques à combien de fois mon frère péchera-t-il contre moi, et je lui pardonnerai? sera-ce jusqu'à sept fois?
22 Jesus said to him: “I do not say to you, even seven times, but even seventy times seven times.
Jésus lui répondit: je ne te dis pas jusqu'à sept fois, mais jusqu'à sept fois septante fois.
23 Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is compared to a man who was king, who wanted to take account of his servants.
C'est pourquoi le Royaume des cieux est semblable à un Roi qui voulut compter avec ses serviteurs.
24 And when he had begun taking account, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.
Et quand il eut commencé à compter, on lui en présenta un qui lui devait dix mille talents.
25 But since he did not have any way to repay it, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children, and all that he had, in order to repay it.
Et parce qu'il n'avait pas de quoi payer, son Seigneur commanda qu'il fût vendu, lui et sa femme et ses enfants, et tout ce qu'il avait, et que la dette fût payée.
26 But that servant, falling prostrate, begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay it all to you.’
Mais ce serviteur se jetant à ses pieds, le suppliait, en disant: Seigneur! aie patience, et je te rendrai le tout.
27 Then the lord of that servant, being moved with pity, released him, and he forgave his debt.
Alors le Seigneur de ce serviteur, touché de compassion, le relâcha, et lui quitta la dette.
28 But when that servant departed, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him one hundred denarius. And taking hold of him, he choked him, saying: ‘Repay what you owe.’
Mais ce serviteur étant sorti, rencontra un de ses compagnons de service, qui lui devait cent deniers; et l'ayant pris, il l'étranglait, en lui disant: paye-moi ce que tu me dois.
29 And his fellow servant, falling prostrate, petitioned him, saying: ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay it all to you.’
Mais son compagnon de service se jetant à ses pieds, le priait, en disant: aie patience, et je te rendrai le tout.
30 But he was not willing. Instead, he went out and had him sent to prison, until he would repay the debt.
Mais il n'en voulut rien faire; et il s'en alla, et le mit en prison, jusqu'à ce qu'il eût payé la dette.
31 Now his fellow servants, seeing what was done, were greatly saddened, and they went and reported to their lord all that was done.
Or ses autres compagnons de service voyant ce qui était arrivé, en furent extrêmement touchés, et ils s'en vinrent, et déclarèrent à leur Seigneur tout ce qui s'était passé.
32 Then his lord called him, and he said to him: ‘You wicked servant, I forgave you all your debt, because you pleaded with me.
Alors son Seigneur le fit venir, et lui dit: méchant serviteur, je t'ai quitté toute cette dette, parce que tu m'en as prié;
33 Therefore, should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I also had compassion on you?’
Ne te fallait-il pas aussi avoir pitié de ton compagnon de service, comme j'avais eu pitié de toi?
34 And his lord, being angry, handed him over to the torturers, until he repaid the entire debt.
Et Son seigneur étant en colère le livra aux sergents, jusqu'à ce qu'il lui eût payé tout ce qui lui était dû.
35 So, too, shall my heavenly Father do to you, if each one of you will not forgive his brother from your hearts.”
C'est ainsi que vous fera mon Père céleste, si vous ne pardonnez de [tout] votre cœur chacun à son frère ses fautes.
