Galatians 2
1 Next, after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem, taking with me Barnabas and Titus.
Quatorze anos depois, voltei para Jerusalém com Barnabé. Eu levei Tito comigo.
2 And I went up according to revelation, and I debated with them about the Gospel that I am preaching among the Gentiles, but away from those who were pretending to be something, lest perhaps I might run, or have run, in vain.
Fui por causa do que Deus tinha revelado para mim. Lá, eu me encontrei, em particular, com os líderes reconhecidos da igreja, e lhes expliquei o evangelho que eu estava anunciando entre os não-judeus. Eu não queria que o caminho que eu tinha seguido e pelo qual eu tinha trabalhado tão intensamente desse em nada.
3 But even Titus, who was with me, though he was a Gentile, was not compelled to be circumcised,
Ninguém nem mesmo insistiu para que o meu companheiro de viagem, Tito, um grego, fosse circuncidado.
4 but only because of false brothers, who were brought in unknowingly. They entered secretly to spy on our liberty, which we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might reduce us to servitude.
Porém alguns falsos irmãos se juntaram ao grupo, com a finalidade de espionar a liberdade que temos em Cristo Jesus, para tentar nos tornar escravos.
5 We did not yield to them in subjection, even for an hour, in order that the truth of the Gospel would remain with you,
Mas, em nenhum momento nos rendemos a eles, nem mesmo por um único minuto. Pois queríamos garantir que a verdade do evangelho fosse mantida inalterada para vocês.
6 and away from those who were pretending to be something. (Whatever they might have been once, it means nothing to me. God does not accept the reputation of a man.) And those who were claiming to be something had nothing to offer me.
Mas, aqueles considerados como sendo importantes não acrescentaram nada ao que eu havia falado. E não me interessa que tipo de líderes eles eram, pois Deus não julga as pessoas pela aparência, como nós fazemos.
7 But it was to the contrary, since they had seen that the Gospel to the uncircumcised was entrusted to me, just as the Gospel to the circumcised was entrusted to Peter.
Pelo contrário, eles perceberam que eu recebi de Deus a responsabilidade de anunciar o evangelho para os não-judeus, exatamente como Pedro tinha recebido a responsabilidade de anunciar o evangelho entre os judeus.
8 For he who was working the Apostleship to the circumcised in Peter, was also working in me among the Gentiles.
Pois o mesmo Deus que trabalhou por meio de Pedro, como apóstolo para os judeus, também trabalhou por meu intermédio, como apóstolo para os não-judeus.
9 And so, when they had acknowledged the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, who seemed like pillars, gave to me and to Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, so that we would go to the Gentiles, while they went to the circumcised,
E quando eles reconheceram a graça que Deus havia me dado, então, Tiago, Pedro e João, que assumiram a responsabilidade de liderança da igreja, apertaram a mão de Barnabé e a minha, aceitando-nos, assim, como companheiros na fé.
10 asking only that we should be mindful of the poor, which was the very thing that I also was solicitous to do.
Nós fomos trabalhar com os não-judeus, enquanto eles continuariam a trabalhar com os judeus. A única orientação que eles nos deram foi para que não nos esquecêssemos dos pobres, pessoas com as quais eu já era muito comprometido.
11 But when Cephas had arrived at Antioch, I stood against him to his face, because he was blameworthy.
No entanto, quando Pedro veio para Antioquia, eu precisei confrontá-lo diretamente, pois ele estava claramente errado no que havia feito.
12 For before certain ones arrived from James, he ate with the Gentiles. But when they had arrived, he drew apart and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.
Antes de algumas pessoas enviadas por Tiago terem chegado, Pedro costumava comer com os não-judeus. Mas, quando essas pessoas chegaram, ele simplesmente parou de fazer isso e se afastou dos não-judeus. Ele estava com receio de ser criticado por aqueles que insistiam que os homens deveriam ser circuncidados.
13 And the other Jews consented to his pretense, so that even Barnabas was led by them into that falseness.
Assim como Pedro, outros judeus cristãos se tornaram hipócritas também, ao ponto de até mesmo Barnabé ter sido convencido a seguir a hipocrisia deles.
14 But when I had seen that they were not walking correctly, by the truth of the Gospel, I said to Cephas in front of everyone: “If you, while you are a Jew, are living like the Gentiles and not the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to keep the customs of the Jews?”
Quando percebi que eles não estavam se posicionando firmemente em relação à verdade do evangelho, eu disse a Pedro, diante de todos: “Você é judeu, mas não está vivendo como judeu e sim como não-judeu. Por que você está forçando os não-judeus a viverem como os judeus?
15 By nature, we are Jews, and not of the Gentiles, sinners.
Nós podemos ser judeus de nascimento, e não ‘pecadores’ como os pagãos.
16 And we know that man is not justified by the works of the law, but only by the faith of Jesus Christ. And so we believe in Christ Jesus, in order that we may be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law. For no flesh will be justified by the works of the law.
Sabemos, contudo, que ninguém se torna justo por fazer o que a lei ordena. A única forma de sermos justos é por meio da fé que temos em Jesus Cristo. Nós cremos em Cristo Jesus, por isso somos considerados justos. Nós colocamos nossa confiança em Cristo, e não em fazer o que a lei manda. Pois ninguém se torna justo ao seguir as exigências da lei.”
17 But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves are also found to be sinners, would then Christ be the minister of sin? Let it not be so!
Mas, ao buscarmos nos tornar justos em Cristo reconhecemos que somos pecadores. Então, significa que Cristo está a serviço do pecado? É claro que não!
18 For if I rebuild the things that I have destroyed, I establish myself as a prevaricator.
Pois se eu fosse reconstruir o que destruí, então, demonstraria apenas que sou um violador da lei.
19 For through the law, I have become dead to the law, so that I may live for God. I have been nailed to the cross with Christ.
Pois, quanto à lei, eu morri para a lei, para que eu possa viver para Deus.
20 I live; yet now, it is not I, but truly Christ, who lives in me. And though I live now in the flesh, I live in the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and who delivered himself for me.
Eu fui crucificado com Cristo e, assim, não sou mais eu quem está vivo, mas é Cristo que vive em mim. E a vida que agora vivo neste corpo, eu a vivo pela fé no Filho de Deus, que me amou, e que se deu em sacrifício por mim.
21 I do not reject the grace of God. For if justice is through the law, then Christ died in vain.
Digam-me como eu poderia rejeitar a graça de Deus? Pois, se pudéssemos nos tornar justos ao seguir a lei, então, a morte de Cristo teria sido completamente sem sentido.
