Kings IV 20
1 In those days was Ezekias sick [even] to death. And the prophet Esaias the son of Amos came in to him, and said to him, Thus says the Lord, Give charge to your household; [for] you shall die, and not live.
En ce temps-là, Ezéchias fut malade à la mort. Le prophète Isaïe, fils d’Amos, vint auprès du lui et lui dit: « Ainsi dit Yahweh: Donne tes ordres à ta maison, car tu vas mourir, et tu ne vivras plus. »
2 And Ezekias turned to the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying,
Ezéchias tourna son visage contre le mur, et pria Yahweh en ces termes:
3 Lord, remember, I pray you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your eyes. And Ezekias wept with a great weeping.
« Souvenez-vous, ô Yahweh, que j’ai marché devant votre face avec fidélité et intégrité de cœur, et que j’ai fait ce qui est bien à vos yeux. » Et Ezéchias versa des larmes abondantes.
4 And Esaias was in the middle court, and the word of the Lord came to him, saying,
Isaïe, n’était pas sorti jusqu’à la cour du milieu, lorsque la parole de Yahweh lui fut adressée en ces termes:
5 Turn back, and you shall say to Ezekias the ruler of my people, Thus says the Lord God of your father David, I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears: behold, I will heal you: on the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.
Retourne, et dis à Ezéchias, chef de mon peuple: « Ainsi dit Yahweh, le Dieu de David, ton père: J’ai entendu ta prière et j’ai vu tes larmes; voici que je te guéris; dans trois jours, tu monteras à la maison de Yahweh;
6 And I will add to your days fifteen years; and I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians, and I will defend this city for my own sake, and for my servant's David sake.
j’ajouterai à tes jours quinze années. Je te délivrerai, toi et cette ville, de la main du roi d’Assyrie; je protégerai cette ville à cause de moi et à cause de David mon serviteur. »
7 And he said, Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it upon the ulcer, and he shall be well.
Isaïe dit: « Prenez une masse de figues. » On la prit, on l’appliqua sur l’ulcère, et Ezéchias guérit.
8 And Ezekias said to Esaias, What [is] the sign that the Lord will heal me, and I shall go up to the house of the Lord on the third day?
Ezéchias avait dit à Isaïe: « A quel signe connaîtrai-je que Yahweh me guérira et que je monterai dans trois jours à la maison de Yahweh. »
9 And Esaias said, This [is] the sign from the Lord, that the Lord will perform the word which he has spoken, the shadow [of the dial] shall advance ten degrees: [or] if it should go back ten degrees [this would also be the sign].
Isaïe dit: « Voici pour toi le signe donné par Yahweh, auquel tu connaîtras que Yahweh accomplira la parole qu’il a dite: l’ombre avancera-t-elle de dix degrés, ou reculera-t-elle de dix degrés? »
10 And Ezekias said, [It is] a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return ten degrees backward on the dial.
Ezéchias répondit: « C’est peu de chose que l’ombre avance de dix degrés; mais qu’elle recule en arrière de dix degrés! »
11 And Esaias the prophet cried to the Lord: and the shadow returned back ten degrees on the dial.
Alors Isaïe, le prophète invoqua Yahweh, qui fit reculer l’ombre en arrière de dix degrés sur les degrés d’Achaz, sur les degrés où elle était descendue.
12 At that time Marodach Baladan, son of Baladan king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Ezekias, because he had heard that Ezekias was sick.
En ce même temps, Mérodach-Baladan, fils de Baladan, roi de Babylone, envoya une lettre et des présents à Ezéchias, parce qu’il avait appris qu’Ezéchias était malade.
13 And Ezekias rejoiced at them, and showed all the house of his spices, the silver and the gold, the spices, and the fine oil, and the armoury, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing which Ezekias did not show them in his house, and in all his dominion.
Ezéchias se réjouit de la venue des envoyés, et il leur montra toute la maison de son trésor, l’argent et l’or, les aromates et l’huile de prix, tout son arsenal et tout ce qui se trouvait dans ses trésors; il n’y eut rien qu’Ezéchias ne leur fit voir dans sa maison et dans tous ses domaines.
14 And Esaias the prophet went in to king Ezekias, and said to him, What said these men? and whence came they to you? And Ezekias said, they came to me from a distant land, [even] from Babylon.
Mais Isaïe, le prophète, vint auprès du roi Ezéchias, et lui dit: « Qu’ont dit ces gens-là, et d’où sont-ils venus vers toi? » Ezéchias répondit: « Ils sont venus d’un pays éloigné, de Babylone. »
15 And he said, What saw they in your house? And he said, They saw all things that [are] in my house: there was nothing in my house which I showed not to them; yes, all that was in my treasures also.
Et Isaïe dit: « Qu’ont-ils vu dans ta maison? » Et Ezéchias répondit: « Ils ont vu tout ce qui est dans ma maison; il n’y a rien dans mes trésors que je ne leur aie fait voir. »
16 And Esaias said to Ezekias, Hear the word of the Lord:
Et Isaïe dit à Ezéchias: « Ecoute la parole de Yahweh:
17 Behold, the days come, that all things that are in your house shall be taken, and all that your fathers have treasured up until this day, to Babylon; and there shall not fail a word, which the Lord has spoken.
Voici que des jours viendront où l’on emportera à Babylone tout ce qui est dans ta maison et ce que tes pères ont amassé jusqu’à ce jour; il n’en restera rien, dit Yahweh.
18 And as for your sons which shall come forth of you, which you shall beget, [the enemy] shall take them, and they shall be eunuchs in the house of the king of Babylon.
Et l’on prendra de tes fils, qui seront sortis de toi, que tu auras engendrés, pour en faire des eunuques dans le palais du roi de Babylone. »
19 And Ezekias said to Esaias, Good [is] the word of the Lord which he has spoken: [only] let there be peace in my days.
Ezéchias répondit à Isaïe: « La parole de Yahweh que tu as prononcée est bonne. » Et il ajouta: « Oui, car la paix et la stabilité seront avec moi pendant ma vie. »
20 And the rest of the acts of Ezekias, and all his might, and all that he made, the fountain and the aqueduct, and [how] he brought water into the city, [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Juda?
Le reste des actes d’Ezéchias, tous ses exploits, et comment il fit l’étang et l’aqueduc et amena les eaux dans la ville, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?
21 And Ezekias slept with his fathers: and Manasses his son reigned in his stead.
Ezéchias se coucha avec ses pères, et Manassé, son fils, régna à sa place.
