Matthew 22
1 Jesus answered and spoke to them again in parables, saying,
Jésus, parlant encore en paraboles, leur dit:
2 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a wedding feast for his son,
Le royaume des cieux est semblable à un roi qui célébra les noces de son fils.
3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.
Il envoya ses serviteurs pour appeler ceux qui avaient été invités aux noces; mais ils ne voulurent pas venir.
4 Again he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding feast!”’
Il envoya encore d'autres serviteurs avec cet ordre: Dites aux invités: J'ai préparé mon festin; mes boeufs et mes bêtes grasses sont tués, et tout est prêt; venez aux noces.
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise;
Mais eux, n'en tenant aucun compte, s'en allèrent, l'un à son champ, l'autre à son trafic;
6 and the rest grabbed his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.
les autres saisirent les serviteurs, les outragèrent et les tuèrent.
7 When the king heard that, he was angry, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
Le roi se mit en colère, et, ayant envoyé ses troupes, il fit périr ces meurtriers et brûla leur ville.
8 “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
Puis il dit à ses serviteurs: Le festin des noces est prêt mais ceux qui étaient invités n'en étaient pas dignes.
9 Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the wedding feast.’
Allez donc dans tous les carrefours, et invitez aux noces tous ceux que vous trouverez.
10 Those servants went out into the highways and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests.
Ces serviteurs, étant allés par les chemins, rassemblèrent tous ceux qui s'y trouvèrent, tant mauvais que bons, en sorte que la salle des noces fut remplie de convives.
11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on wedding clothing,
Le roi, entrant pour voir ceux qui étaient à table, aperçut un homme qui n'était pas vêtu d'un habit de noce.
12 and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?’ He was speechless.
Il lui dit: Mon ami, comment es-tu entré ici, sans avoir un habit de noce? Et cet homme eut la bouche fermée.
13 Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness. That is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.’
Alors le roi dit aux serviteurs: Liez-le pieds et mains, et jetez-le dans les ténèbres du dehors; c'est là qu'il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.
14 For many are called, but few chosen.”
Car il y a beaucoup d'appelés, mais peu d'élus.
15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.
Alors les pharisiens, s'étant retirés, tinrent conseil, afin de trouver dans les propres paroles de Jésus un piège contre lui.
16 They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach; for you are not partial to anyone.
Et ils lui envoyèrent leurs disciples, avec les hérodiens, pour lui dire: Maître, nous savons que tu es véridique, et que tu enseignes la voie de Dieu en toute vérité, sans te préoccuper de personne; car tu ne regardes pas à l'apparence des hommes.
17 Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
Dis-nous donc ce que tu penses de ceci: Est-il permis de payer l'impôt à César, ou non?
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test me, you hypocrites?
Jésus, connaissant leur malice, répondit: Pourquoi me tentez-vous, hypocrites?
19 Show me the tax money.” They brought to him a denarius.
Montrez-moi la monnaie de l'impôt! Ils lui présentèrent un denier.
20 He asked them, “Whose is this image and inscription?”
Et il leur dit: Cette effigie et cette inscription, de qui sont-elles?
21 They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
— Ils lui répondirent: de César. Alors il leur dit: Rendez donc à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu.
22 When they heard it, they marveled, and left him and went away.
En entendant cette réponse, ils furent dans l'étonnement; et le laissant, ils s'en allèrent.
23 On that day Sadducees (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him. They asked him,
Ce même jour, les sadducéens, qui disent qu'il n'y a point de résurrection, s'approchèrent de Jésus, et ils lui firent cette question:
24 saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.’
Maître, Moïse a dit: «Si quelqu'un meurt sans enfants, son frère épousera sa veuve, et il suscitera une postérité à son frère.»
25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother.
Or, il y avait parmi nous sept frères. Le premier se maria et mourut; et comme il n'avait point d'enfants, il laissa sa femme à son frère.
26 In the same way, the second also, and the third, to the seventh.
De même aussi le second, puis le troisième, jusqu'au septième.
27 After them all, the woman died.
Après eux tous, la femme mourut aussi.
28 In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.”
Duquel des sept sera-t-elle donc la femme, lors de la résurrection, puisque tous l'ont eue pour femme?
29 But Jesus answered them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
Jésus leur répondit: Vous êtes dans l'erreur, parce que vous ne comprenez pas les Écritures, ni quelle est la puissance de Dieu!
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like God’s angels in heaven.
Car, à la résurrection, on ne se marie pas, et on n'est pas donné en mariage; mais les ressuscités sont comme les anges dans le ciel.
31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have not you read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,
Quant à la résurrection des morts, n'avez-vous pas lu la parole que Dieu vous a dite:
32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
«Je suis le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob»? Il n'est pas le Dieu des morts, mais le Dieu des vivants.
33 When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.
Le peuple, entendant ces paroles, était frappé de son enseignement.
34 But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.
Les pharisiens, ayant appris qu'il avait fermé la bouche aux sadducéens, se rassemblèrent.
35 One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.
Et l'un d'eux, docteur de la loi, l'interrogea pour l'éprouver, et lui dit:
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”
Maître, quel est, dans la loi, le grand commandement?
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
Jésus lui répondit: «Tu aimeras le Seigneur, ton Dieu, de tout ton coeur, de toute ton âme, et de toute ta pensée».
38 This is the first and great commandment.
C'est là le grand, le premier commandement.
39 A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Et voici le second, qui lui est semblable: «Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même».
40 The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”
De ces deux commandements dépendent toute la loi et les prophètes.
41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,
Les pharisiens étant assemblés, Jésus les interrogea,
42 saying, “What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “Of David.”
et il leur dit: Que pensez-vous du Christ? De qui est-il fils?
43 He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,
Ils lui répondirent: De David. Il leur dit: Comment donc David, parlant par l'Esprit, l'appelle-t-il Seigneur, en disant:
44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet’?
«Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur: Assieds-toi à ma droite, jusqu'à ce que j'aie mis tes ennemis sous tes pieds»?
45 “If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?”
Si donc David l'appelle Seigneur, comment est-il son fils?
46 No one was able to answer him a word, neither did any man dare ask him any more questions from that day forward.
Personne ne put lui répondre un mot; et, depuis ce jour-là, nul n'osa plus l'interroger.
