< Matthai 14 >

1 Tevaeng tue ah Jesuh kah olthang te khoboei Herod loh a yaak.
At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the fame of Jesus,
2 Te dongah a taengom rhoek taengah, “Anih te tuinuem Johan coeng ni. Anih ni duek lamloh aka thoo coeng. Te dongah ni thaomnah loh anih pum dongah a tueng coeng,” a ti nah.
and said to his servants, “This is John the Immerser, he rose from the dead, and because of this the mighty energies are working in him.”
3 Herod a loh a maya Philip kah yuu rho Herodias kongah Johan te a tuuk, a khih tih thongim ah a khueh.
For Herod having laid hold on John, bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
4 Johan loh anih te, “Herodias namah ham na khueh tueng pawh,” a ti nah.
for John was saying to him, “It is not lawful to you to have her,”
5 Johan te ngawn a ngaih dae Johan te tonghma la a khueh uh dongah hlangping te a rhih.
and willing to kill him, he feared the multitude, because as a prophet they were holding him.
6 Tedae Herod kah cunnah a pha vaengah, Herodias canu tah amih lakli ah lam tih Herod te a kohoe.
But the birthday of Herod being kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod,
7 Te dongah huta kah a bih te tah paek ham olhlo neh a phong.
after which with an oath he professed to give her whatever she might ask.
8 Tedae a manu kah caemtuh dongah, “Tuinuem Johan kah a lu te baelpuei dongah kai m'pae,” a ti nah.
And she, having been instigated by her mother, says, “Give me here on a plate the head of John the Immerser”;
9 Manghai loh a kothae dae a olhlo neh, aka ngol rhoek kongah paek hamla ol a paek.
and the king was grieved, but because of the oaths and of those dining with him, he commanded [it] to be given;
10 Te dongah hlang a tueih tih Johan te thongim khuiah a rhaih.
and having sent, he beheaded John in the prison,
11 Te phoeiah a lu te baelpuei dongah han khuen tih hula te a paek. Te phoeiah a manu taengla a khuen.
and his head was brought on a plate, and was given to the girl, and she brought [it] near to her mother.
12 Te phoeiah a hnukbang rhoek loh a paan uh tih rhok te a khuen uh. A up uh phoeiah tah Jesuh taengla pawk uh tih puen uh.
And his disciples having come, took up the body, and buried it, and having come, they told Jesus,
13 Jesuh loh a yaak vaengah, te lamloh amah bueng khosoek hmuen la lawng neh cet. Tedae hlangping loh a yaak vaengah khopuei tom lamloh kho neh a vai uh.
and Jesus having heard, withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by Himself, and the multitudes having heard followed Him on land from the cities.
14 A caeh vaengah hlangping muep a hmuh hatah amih ham a thinphat tih amih kah tloh te a hoeih sak.
And Jesus having come forth, saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion on them, and healed their sick;

and evening having come, His disciples came to Him, saying, “The place is desolate, and the hour has now past, let away the multitudes that, having gone into the villages, they may buy food for themselves.”
16 Tedae Jesuh loh, “Amih caeh ham a ngoe pawh. Namamih loh amih kah a caak ham te pae uh,” a ti nah.
And Jesus said to them, “They have no need to go away—you give them to eat.”
17 Tedae te rhoek loh, “Vaidam panga neh nga lungnit pawt koinih a tloe ka khueh uh moenih he,” a ti uh.
And they say to Him, “We have nothing here except five loaves and two fishes.”
18 Tedae, “Te rhoek te kai taengla han khuen uh,” a ti nah.
And He said, “Bring them to Me here.”
19 Te phoeiah hlangping rhoek te khopol dongah ngolhlung ham ol a paek. Vaidam panga neh nga panit te a loh. Vaan la oeloe tih a uem phoeiah vaidam te a aeh tih hnukbang rhoek a paek. Te phoeiah hnukbang rhoek loh hlangping te a paek.
And having commanded the multitudes to recline on the grass, and having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, having looked up to the sky, He blessed, and having broken, He gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples [gave] to the multitudes,
20 Hlang boeih loh a caak uh tih hah uh. Te phoeiah a coih, a nuei a pil te voh hlainit dongah a bae la a phueih uh.
and they all ate, and were filled, and they took up what was over of the broken pieces twelve hand-baskets full;

and those eating were about five thousand men, apart from women and children.
22 Hlangping te phang a tueih hlanah hnukbang rhoek te lawng khuila kun ham tlek a tanolh tih rhalvangan la a lamhma sak.
And immediately Jesus constrained His disciples to go into the boat, and to go before Him to the other side, until He might let away the multitudes;
23 Tedae hlangping te a hlah phoeiah amah bueng thangthui hamla tlang la luei. Hlaem a pha vaengah amah bueng pahoi om.
and having let away the multitudes, He went up to the mountain by Himself to pray, and evening having come, He was there alone,
24 Lawng tah lan lamloh phalong muep a pha coeng. Te vaengah hli oel om tih tuiphu loh a hinghuen.
and the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25 Jesuh tah khoyin bangli ah, tui soah cet tih amih taengla pawk.
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went away to them, walking on the sea,
26 Amah tuili soah a caeh te a hnukbang rhoek loh a hmuh uh vaengah thuen uh tih, “Mueihla ni,” a ti uh tih rhihnah neh pang uh.
and the disciples having seen Him walking on the sea, were troubled, saying, “It is an apparition,” and from the fear they cried out;
27 Jesuh loh amih te tlek a voek tih, “Na ngaimong sak uh, kai ni, rhih uh boeh,” a ti nah.
and immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage! I AM; do not be afraid.”
28 Peter loh a doo tih, “Boeipa nang na om atah, nang taengla tui so longah ka pawk na ham kai he ol m'pae lah,” a ti nah.
And Peter answering Him said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the waters”;
29 Te dongah, “Ha lo,” a ti nah. Peter tah lawng khui lamloh rhum tih tui soah a caeh daengah Jesuh taengla a pha.
and He said, “Come”; and having gone down from the boat, Peter walked on the waters to come to Jesus,
30 Tedae khohli a tloh te a hmuh vaengah a rhih tih dalh buek. Te vaengah pang tih, “Boeipa kai n'khang lah,” a ti nah.
but seeing the vehement wind, he was afraid, and having begun to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31 Jesuh loh a kut tlek a yueng tih a tuuk phoeiah Peter te, “Uepvawt aw, balae tih na uepvawt?” a ti nah.
And immediately Jesus, having stretched forth the hand, laid hold of him and says to him, “Little faith! For why did you waver?”
32 Lawng dongah amih rhoi a yoeng rhoi vaengah khohli te dip.
And they having gone into the boat, the wind stilled,
33 Te vaengah lawng dongkah rhoek loh Jesuh te a bawk uh tih, “Pathen Capa la na om tangtang,” a ti na uh.
and those in the boat having come, worshiped Him, saying, “You are truly God’s Son.”

and were calling on Him that they might only touch the fringe of His garment, and as many as touched were saved.
