1 Aw Theophila, hmaloe ah ka sak ih cabu pongah, Jesu mah sak ih hmuen hoi patuk amtonghaih kawng to,
The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to teach,
2 patoeh han a qoih ih kaminawk khaeah, Kacai Muithla rang hoiah lok to paek moe, ranui bangah lakhaih ni pha ai karoek to a thuih pae ih lok to ka tarik boeh.
until the day in which he was received up, after that he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 Anih loe patangkhang pacoengah, nihcae khaeah ni quipalito thung amtueng pae moe, Sithaw prae kawng to a thuih: anih loe hing, tiah nihcae khaeah paroeai hnuksakhaih hoiah amtuengsak:
to whom he also showed himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing unto them by the space of forty days, and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God:
4 Patoeh ih kaminawk hoi nawnto amkhueng o naah, ka thuih ih lok to na thaih o boeh, Pa Lokkamhaih to zing oh, Jerusalem hae caeh o taak hmah.
and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, [said he], ye heard from me:
5 Johan loe tui hoiah ni tuinuemhaih to paek; toe nangcae loe akra ai ah Kacai Muithla hoiah tuinuemhaih to na hnu o tih, tiah a naa.
for John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.
6 Nihcae mah nawnto amkhueng o naah, anih khaeah, Angraeng, vaihi Israel prae nang doetsak let han boeh maw? tiah a dueng o.
They therefore, when they were come together, asked him, saying, Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?
7 Anih mah nihcae khaeah, Pa mah a thacakhaih rang hoiah suek ih ani hoi atuenawk na panoek o han angai ai.
And he said unto them, It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath set within his own authority.
8 Toe nangcae nuiah Kacai Muithla angzoh pacoengah, thacakhaih to na hnu o tih: to naah Jerusalem, Judea prae hoi Samaria prae thung boih, long boenghaih ahmuen khoek to, Kai hnukung ah na om o tih, tiah a naa.
But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 Hae loknawk a thuih pacoengah, nihcae mik hnukah, anih loe van ah lak tahang ah oh; anih loe nihcae mah hnu thai ai karoek to tamai nuiah caeh tahang.
And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 Anih ranui bang caeh naah, nihcae mah boeng ai ah khet o tahang, khenah, kahni kanglung angkhuk kami hnetto, nihcae taengah angdoet pae;
And while they were looking stedfastly into heaven as he went, behold two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 nihnik mah, Kalili kaminawk, Tih pongah nang doet o moe, ranui bangah na khet o khing loe? Nangcae khae hoi van ah lak tahang ah kaom, nangcae mik hnukah Jesu van ah lak tahang baktih toengah, anih loe angzo let tih, tiah a naa.
who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? this Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven.
12 To pacoengah loe nihcae mah Jerusalem hoi Sabbath nito caehhaih kangthla, Olive, tiah kawk ih mae hoiah Jerusalem ah amlaem o.
Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nigh unto Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey off.
13 A phak o naah, Piter, Johan, Jakob hoi Andru, Philip hoi Thomas, Batholomu hoi Mathai, Alphaeus capa Jakob hoi Zealot, tiah kawk ih Simon, Jakob ih amnawk Juda cae loe im ranui ah dawh o tahang.
And when they were come in, they went up into the upper chamber, where they were abiding; both Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James [the son] of Alphæus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas [the son] of James.
14 Nongpatanawk, Jesu amno Meri, Anih ih amnawknawk boih loe poekhaih maeto hoiah lawkthuih o.
These all with one accord continued stedfastly in prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
15 To na niah Piter loe (cumvaito pacoeng, pumphaeto) kamkhueng, a hnukbang kaminawk salakah angdoet moe, )
And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, and said (and there was a multitude of persons [gathered] together, about a hundred and twenty),
16 nawkamyanawk, Jesu naeh kaminawk loklam patuekkung, canghnii ah Kacai Muithla mah David ih pakha hoiah Juda kawng thuih ih hae Cabu lok loe akoep han oh.
Brethren, it was needful that the scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spake before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus.
17 Anih loe aicae hoi nawnto kroek o moe, hae tok doeh a sak toeng, tiah a thuih.
For he was numbered among us, and received his portion in this ministry.
18 Juda loe zaehaih atho hoiah long to qanh; anih loe lu bang hoiah long ah krak, a zok um ah tapok phawt pongah, tazae taqawnnawk doeh amsah boih.
(Now this man obtained a field with the reward of his iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
19 To tiah kaom hmuen to Jerusalem kaminawk boih mah panoek o; to pongah to long ahmuen loe a taengah kaom kaminawk ih lok hoiah Akeldama, tiah kawk o, athii hoi qan ih long, tiah thuih koehhaih ih ni.
And it became known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch that in their language that field was called Akeldama, that is, The field of blood.)
20 Saam Cabu thungah, Anih ohhaih ahmuen to pong sut nasoe loe, toah mi doeh om hmah nasoe: zaehoikung ah a ohhaih tok to kalah kami mah la nasoe, tiah tarik ih oh.
For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be made desolate, And let no man dwell therein: and, His office let another take.
21 To pongah, Angraeng Jesu aicae salakah oh moe, tacawt naah, aicae hoi nawnto kaom toepsoep kami,
Of the men therefore that have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us,
22 aicae hoi nawnto Jesu angthawk lethaih hnukung ah oh hanah, Johan mah tuinuemhaih paek tangsuek nathuem hoi kamtong, Anih aicae khae hoi ranui bangah lak karoek to, aicae hoi nawnto kaom kami maeto tokpaek han oh, tiah a thuih.
beginning from the baptism of John, unto the day that he was received up from us, of these must one become a witness with us of his resurrection.
23 To pongah nihcae mah kami hnetto, Barsabas, tiah kawk ih Joseph (Justa, tiah doeh kawk o) hoi Mathia to qoih o.
And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
24 To naah Angraeng, nangmah loe kaminawk ih palungthin to na panoek boih, zaehoikung ah ohhaih ahmuen hoiah Juda amtim ving pacoengah, anih zuengah oh moe, angmah ih ahmuen ah caeh pacoengah, patoeh ih kaminawk mah sak ih tok thungah athum hanah, hae kami hnik thungah na qoih ih kami to amtuengsak ah, tiah lawk a thuih o.
And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show of these two the one whom thou hast chosen,
to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.
26 To pacoengah nihcae mah taham khethaih phoisa to vah o; taham khethaih phoisa loe Mathia khaeah amtimh; to pongah anih to patoeh ih kami hathlai hnetto thungah athum o sak.
And they gave lots for them; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
