< Santiago 2 >

1 Ene anayeác, eztuçuela Iesus Christ gure Iaun gloriazcoaren fedea, personén acceptionerequin.
My brethren, hold not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, in a partial respect of persons.
2 Ecen baldin sar badadi çuen congregationera guiçon-bat vrrhezco erhaztun-bat duela, preciosqui veztituric: eta sar dadin halaber edocein paubre charqui veztituric,
For if there come into your synagogue a man with a gold ring in fine clothes, and there come in also a poor man in a mean habit;
3 Eta ikartze duçuen preciosqui veztitua denagana, eta erran dieçoçuen hari, Hi iar adi hemen honestqui: eta paubreari derroçuen, Hi ago çutic han, edo iar adi hemen ene scabella azpian:
and ye turn your eyes toward him that weareth the fine clothes, and say to him, Sit thou here in an honorable place; and say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:
4 Eztuçue differentia eguin vkan ceuroc baithan, eta eguin içan baitzarete pensamendu gaichtoezco iuge?
do ye not make a partial difference within yourselves, and become judges that reason wickedly?
5 Ençuçue, ene anaye maiteác, eztitu Iaincoac elegitu mundu hunetaco paubreac fedez abrats içateco, eta hura maite duteney promettatu drauen resumaco heredero?
Hear, my beloved brethren; hath not God chosen the poor of this world who are rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom, which He hath promised to them that love Him? but ye have slighted the poor.
6 Baina çuec desohoratu vkan duçue paubrea. Ala abratsec etzaituztez tyrannizatzen, eta etzaituztez gortetara erekarten?
Do not the rich tyrannize over you; and drag you to their tribunals?
7 Eztute hec blasphematzen çuen gainean inuocatu içan den Icen ona?
Do they not blaspheme the glorious name by which ye are called?
8 Badaric-ere baldin Legue reala complitzen baduçue Scripturaren araura, cein baita, On eritziren draucac eure hurcoari eure buruäri beçala, vngui eguiten duçue:
If ye fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, which saith, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well.
9 Baina baldin personén acceptioneric baduçue, bekatu eguiten duçue, eta reprehenditzen çarete Legueaz transgrediçale beçala.
But if ye partially respect persons, ye commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
10 Ecen norc-ere Legue gucia beguiraturen baitu, eta punctu batetan faltaturen, gucietan hoguendun da.
For whosoever shall keep the whole law besides, but offend in one point, he is under the penalty of all:
11 Ecen erran duenac, Eztuc adulteraturen, erran du halaber, Eztuc hilen. Bada baldin adulteratzen ezpaduc, baina hiltzen bay, Leguearen transgrediçale eguin aiz.
for He that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou do not commit adultery, but committest murder, thou art a transgressor of the law.
12 Hala minça çaitezte eta hala eguiçue nola libertatezco Legueaz iugeatu behar diradenéc.
So speak, and so act, as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty.
13 Ecen condemnatione misericordia gabe eguinen çayó misericordia eguin eztuqueenari: eta gloriatzen da misericordia condemnationearen contra.
For he shall have judgement without mercy, that hath not shewn mercy: but mercy triumpheth over judgement.
14 Ene anayeác, cer probetchu, baldin norbeitec badarra fede baduela, eta obrác eztituén? ala fede harc hura salua ahal deçaque?
What is the advantage, my brethren, if any one say that he has faith, and he hath not works, can faith alone save him?
15 Eta baldin anayea edo arrebá billuciac badirade, eta peitu eguneco vitançaren:
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food;
16 Eta çuetaric cembeitec hæy erran diecén, Çoazte baquerequin, bero çaitezte eta asse çaitezte: eta eztinguzteçuen gorputzaren necessario diraden gauçác, cer probetchu duqueite?
and one of you say to them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and be ye filled: but ye give them not the necessaries of life, what profit is it to them?
17 Hala fedea-ere, baldin obrác ezpaditu, hila da bere berez.
so faith, if it have not works, being alone, is dead.
18 Baina are erranén du edoceinec, Hic fedea duc, eta nic obrác citiat, eracuts ieçadac eure fedea eure obrác gabe, eta nic eracutsiren drauat hiri neure obretaric neure fedea.
But one may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith by thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Hic sinhesten duc ecen Iaincobat dela: vngui eguiten duc: deabruec-ere sinhesten dié, eta ikara diabiltzac.
Thou believest that there is one God; thou dost well: the devils also believe and tremble.
20 Baina nahi duc iaquin, o guiçon vanoá, ecen fedea obrác gabe hila dela?
But desirest thou to know, O vain man, that faith without works, is dead?
21 Gure aita Abraham ezta obretaric iustificatu içan, Isaac bere semea aldare gainean offrendatu çuenean?
consider, Was not our father Abraham justified by works, when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar?
22 Badacussac nola fedeac obratzen çuen haren obretan, eta obretaric fedea acabatu içan dela?
Thou seest that faith co-operated with his works, and that by his works his faith was perfected.
23 Eta complitu içan dela Scripturá dioela, Sinhetsi vkan du Abrahamec Iaincoa, eta imputatu içan çayó iustitiatara, eta Iaincoaren adisquide deithu içan da.
And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God.
24 Badacussaçue bada ecen obretaric iustificatzen dela guiçona, eta ez fedetic solament?
Ye see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
25 Halaber Rahab paillarda-ere ala ezta obretaric iustificatu içan, recebitu cituenean mandatariac, eta berce bidez idoqui cituenean?
And in like manner also was not the harlot Rahab justified by works, when she entertained the spies, and let them out another way?
26 Ecen nola gorputza spiritu gabe hila baita, hala fedea-ere obrác gabe hila da.
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
