When the king heard the words of the woman, he tore his clothes. Now he was passing by on the wall, and the people looked, and behold, he had sackcloth underneath on his body.

فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ الْمَلِكُ حَدِيثَ الْمَرْأَةِ مَزَّقَ ثِيَابَهُ وَهُوَ يَتَفَقَّدُ السُّورَ، فَرَأَى الْمُحِيطُونَ بِهِ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَرْتَدِي مُسُوحاً فَوْقَ جَسَدِهِ.

ויהי כשמע המלך את דברי האשה ויקרע את בגדיו והוא עבר על החמה וירא העם והנה השק על בשרו מבית׃
וַיְהִי כִשְׁמֹעַ הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶת־דִּבְרֵי הָֽאִשָּׁה וַיִּקְרַע אֶת־בְּגָדָיו וְהוּא עֹבֵר עַל־הַחֹמָה וַיַּרְא הָעָם וְהִנֵּה הַשַּׂק עַל־בְּשָׂרוֹ מִבָּֽיִת׃
וַיְהִי֩ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֤י הָֽאִשָּׁה֙ וַיִּקְרַ֣ע אֶת־בְּגָדָ֔יו וְה֖וּא עֹבֵ֣ר עַל־הַחֹמָ֑ה וַיַּ֣רְא הָעָ֔ם וְהִנֵּ֥ה הַשַּׂ֛ק עַל־בְּשָׂר֖וֹ מִבָּֽיִת׃
उस स्त्री की ये बातें सुनते ही, राजा ने अपने वस्त्र फाड़े (वह तो शहरपनाह पर टहल रहा था), जब लोगों ने देखा, तब उनको यह देख पड़ा कि वह भीतर अपनी देह पर टाट पहने है।
जब राजा ने उस स्त्री के ये शब्द सुने, उसने अपने कपड़े फाड़ दिए. इस समय वह शहरपनाह पर टहल रहा था. लोगों ने यह सब देखा. उन्होंने इस बात पर भी ध्यान दिया कि वह राजसी वस्त्रों के भीतर टाट पहना हुआ था.
