1 Tesalonaika 4

1 Pea ʻi he meʻa ʻoku toe, ʻe kāinga, ʻoku mau kole mo enginaki kiate kimoutolu, ʻi he ʻEiki ko Sisu, koeʻuhi ʻi hoʻomou ʻilo ʻiate kimautolu ke fēfē ʻa hoʻomou ʻaʻeva ke fakafiemālie ki he ʻOtua, ke mou tupulekina ai ʻo lahi ʻaupito.

Further, friends, we beg and urge you in the name of our Lord Jesus to carry out more fully than ever – as indeed you are already doing – all that you have heard from us as to what your daily life must be, if it is to please God.

2 He ʻoku mou ʻilo ʻae ngaahi fekau naʻa mau tuku kiate kimoutolu mei he ʻEiki ko Sisu.

For you have not forgotten the directions that we gave you on the authority of our Lord Jesus.

3 He ko e finangalo eni ʻoe ʻOtua, ke mou māʻoniʻoni, pea ke mou tapu mei he feʻauaki:

For this is God’s purpose – that you should be pure; abstaining from all immorality;

4 Ke mou taki taha ʻilo ke tauhi hono ipu ʻi he anga fakamāʻoniʻoni, mo e fakaʻapaʻapa;

each of you learning to gain control over your own body, in a way that is holy and honorable,

5 ‌ʻIkai ʻi he holi fakalielia, ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi Senitaile, ʻoku ʻikai ke nau ʻilo ʻae ʻOtua:

and not for the mere gratification of your passions, like the Gentiles who know nothing of God;

6 Ke ʻoua naʻa fai hala ʻe ha tokotaha, ʻo kākaaʻi hono tokoua ʻi ha meʻa: koeʻuhi ʻe totongi ʻe he ʻEiki ki he kakai pehē kotoa pē, ʻo hangē ko ia naʻa mau tomuʻa fakahā mo fakapapau kiate kimoutolu.

none of you overreaching or taking advantage of their fellow follower of the Lord in such matters. The Lord takes vengeance on all who do such things, as we have already warned you and solemnly declared.

7 He naʻe ʻikai ui ʻakitautolu ʻe he ʻOtua ki he fakalielia, ka ki he māʻoniʻoni.

For God does not call us to an impure life, but demands holiness.

8 Ko ia ia ʻoku manuki, ʻoku ʻikai ko e manukiʻi ʻae tangata, ka ko e ʻOtua, ʻaia naʻa ne foaki kiate kitautolu hono Laumālie Māʻoniʻoni foki.

Therefore the person who disregards this warning disregards, not people, but God who gives you his Holy Spirit.

9 Ka ko e meʻa ʻi he ʻofa fakakāinga, ʻoku ʻikai ʻaonga ʻae tohi ai kiate kimoutolu: he kuo mou akonekina mei he ʻOtua ke feʻofaʻaki kiate kimoutolu.

As to love for each other there is no need to write to you; for you have yourselves been taught by God to love one another;

10 Pea ko e moʻoni ʻoku mou fai ia ki he kāinga kotoa pē ʻoku ʻi Masitōnia, kotoa pē: ka ʻoku mau kole kiate kimoutolu, ʻe kāinga, ke mou tupulekina lahi ʻaupito ai;

and indeed you do act in this spirit towards all his people throughout Macedonia. Yet, friends, we beg you to do even more.

11 Pea tokanga lahi ke mou anga fakalongo pe, pea ke mou fai taki taha hoʻomou ngaue, pea ke ngāueʻaki homou nima, ʻo hangē ko ia naʻa mau fekau kiate kimoutolu;

Make it your ambition to live quietly, and to attend to your own business, and to work with your hands, as we directed you;

12 Pea ke mou ʻaʻeva ʻo matamatalelei kiate kinautolu ʻoku ʻi tuaʻā, pea ke ʻoua naʻa mou masiva ʻi ha meʻa.

so that your conduct may win respect from those outside the church, and that you may not want for anything.

13 Ka ʻoku ʻikai ko hoku loto ke mou taʻeʻilo, ʻe kāinga, koeʻuhi ko kinautolu ʻoku mohe, ke ʻoua naʻa mou mamahiʻia, ʻo hangē ko e niʻihi kehe ʻoku ʻikai haʻanau ʻamanaki lelei.

We don’t want you to be ignorant, friends, about those who have passed to their rest. We don’t want you to grieve like other people who have no hope.

14 He kapau ʻoku tau tui naʻe pekia ʻa Sisu pea toetuʻu hake, pea ʻoku pehē, ko kinautolu foki ʻoku mohe ʻia Sisu, ʻe ʻomi ʻakinautolu fakataha mo ia ʻe he ʻOtua.

For, as we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that God will bring, with Jesus, those who through him have passed to their rest.

15 He ʻoku mau tala eni kiate kimoutolu ʻi he folofola ʻae ʻEiki, ko kitautolu ʻoku moʻui pea toe ʻi he hoko mai ʻae ʻEiki, ʻe ʻikai te tau muʻomuʻa ʻiate kinautolu ʻoku mohe.

This we tell you on the authority of the Lord – that those of us who are still living at the coming of the Lord will not anticipate those who have passed to their rest.

16 Koeʻuhi ʻe ʻalu hifo ʻae ʻEiki mei he langi, ʻi he mavava, mo e leʻo ʻoe ʻāngelo lahi, mo e meʻa lea ʻae ʻOtua pea ko e pekia ʻia Kalaisi ʻe tomuʻa tuʻu:

For, with a loud summons, with the shout of an archangel, and with the trumpet-call of God, the Lord himself will come down from heaven.

17 Pea ko kitautolu ʻoku moʻui mo toe, ʻe toʻo hake fakataha mo kinautolu ʻi he ngaahi ʻao, ke fakafetaulaki ki he ʻEiki ʻi he ʻatā: pea pehē, te tau ʻi he ʻEiki ʻo taʻengata.

Then those who died in union with Christ will rise first; and afterward we who are still living will be caught up in the clouds, with them, to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be for ever with the Lord.

18 Ko ia mou fetoutou fefakafiemālieʻaki ʻakimoutolu ʻi he ngaahi lea ni.

Therefore, comfort one another with what I have told you.
