1 Tesalonaika 3

1 Ko ia ʻi he ʻikai te mau kei faʻa kātaki, naʻa mau fiemālie ke nofo pe ʻi ʻAtenisi;

And so, as we could bear it no longer, we made up our minds to remain behind alone at Athens,

2 Kae fekau atu ʻa Timote, ko homau tokoua, mo e faifekau ʻae ʻOtua, mo ʻemau kaungā ngaue ʻi he ongoongolelei ʻa Kalaisi, ke fakamālohi ʻakimoutolu, pea ke fakafiemālieʻi ʻakimoutolu ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻomou tui:

and sent Timothy, our dear friend and God’s minister of the good news of the Christ, to strengthen you, and to encourage you in your faith,

3 Koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa ngaueue ha taha ʻi he ngaahi mamahi ni: he ʻoku mou ʻilo kuo tuʻutuʻuni ʻakitautolu ki ai.

so that none of you should be shaken by the troubles through which you are passing. You yourselves know that we are destined to meet with such things.

4 He ko e moʻoni, ʻi heʻemau ʻiate kimoutolu, naʻa mau tomuʻa tala kiate kimoutolu ʻe tautea ʻakimautolu; ʻo hangē ko ia naʻe hoko, pea ʻoku mou ʻilo.

For, even while we were with you, we warned you beforehand that we were certain to encounter trouble. And so it proved, as you know.

5 Koeʻuhi ko e meʻa ni, ʻi he ʻikai te u kei faʻa kātaki, ne u fekau atu ai ke u ʻilo hoʻomou tui, telia naʻa ai ha meʻa kuo fakatauveleʻi ai ʻakimoutolu ʻe he ʻahiʻahi, pea fakataʻeʻaonga ai ʻemau ngaue.

Therefore, since I could no longer endure the uncertainty, I sent to make inquiries about your faith, fearing that the Tempter had tempted you, and that our toil might prove to have been in vain.

6 Ka ko eni, ʻi he hoko mai ʻa Timote meiate kimoutolu, ʻo ʻomi kiate kimautolu ʻae ongoongolelei ʻo hoʻomou tui mo e ʻofa, pea mo hoʻomou manatu lelei maʻuaipē kiate kimautolu, ʻo holi lahi ke mamata kiate kimautolu, ʻo hangē ko kimautolu kiate kimoutolu:

But, when Timothy recently returned to us from you with good news of your faith and love, and told us how kindly you think of us – always longing, he said, to see us, just as we are longing to see you –

7 Ko ia, ʻe kāinga, naʻa mau fiemālie ʻiate kimoutolu, ʻi heʻemau mamahi mo e tuʻutāmaki kotoa pē, ʻi hoʻomou tui:

on hearing this, we felt encouraged about you, friends, in the midst of all our difficulties and troubles, by your faith.

8 He ʻoku mau moʻui eni, ʻo kapau ʻoku mou tuʻumaʻu ʻi he ʻEiki.

For it is new life to us to know that you are holding fast to the Lord.

9 He ko e hā ʻae fakafetaʻi te mau faʻa ʻatu ki he ʻOtua koeʻuhi ko kimoutolu, ʻi he fiefia kotoa pē ʻoku mau fiefia ai ʻi he ʻao ʻo hotau ʻOtua koeʻuhi ko kimoutolu;

How can we thank God enough for all the happiness that you are giving us in the sight of our God?

10 ‌ʻo lotu lahi ʻaupito ʻi he pō mo e ʻaho, koeʻuhi ke mau mamata ki homou mata, pea ke mau fakakakato ʻaia ʻoku toe ʻi hoʻomou tui?

Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to face, and make good any deficiency in your faith.

11 Pea ko eni, ke ʻi he ʻOtua pe ko ʻetau Tamai, mo hotau ʻEiki ko Sisu Kalaisi, ke fakahinohino homau hala kiate kimoutolu.

May our God and Father himself, and Jesus, our Lord, make the way plain for us to come to you.

12 Pea ke fakafonu ʻakimoutolu ʻe he ʻEiki, ke mou tupulekina lahi ʻi he feʻofaʻaki ʻakimoutolu kiate kimoutolu, pea ki he kakai kotoa pē, ʻo hangē ko kimautolu kiate kimoutolu

And for you, may the Lord fill you to overflowing with love for one another and for everyone, just as we are filled with love for you;

13 Koeʻuhi ke ne fokotuʻumaʻu ʻo taʻehalaia homou loto ʻi he māʻoniʻoni, ʻi he ʻao ʻoe ʻOtua, ko ʻetau Tamai, ʻi he hāʻele mai ʻa hotau ʻEiki ko Sisu Kalaisi mo ʻene kau māʻoniʻoni kotoa pē.

and so make your hearts strong, and your lives pure beyond reproach, in the sight of our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus, with all his Holy Ones.
