San Lucas 23
1 Toda la compañía se levantó y le llevó ante Pilato.
The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.
2 Comenzaron a acusarle, diciendo: “Hemos encontrado a este hombre pervirtiendo a la nación, prohibiendo pagar los impuestos al César y diciendo que él mismo es el Cristo, un rey.”
They began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”
3 Pilato le preguntó: “¿Eres tú el rey de los judíos?” Le respondió: “Eso dices tú”.
Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “So you say.”
4 Pilato dijo a los jefes de los sacerdotes y a la multitud: “No encuentro fundamento para una acusación contra este hombre”.
Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
5 Pero ellos insistieron, diciendo: “Él agita al pueblo, enseñando en toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea hasta este lugar.”
But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”
6 Pero cuando Pilato oyó mencionar a Galilea, preguntó si el hombre era galileo.
But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.
7 Al enterarse de que estaba en la jurisdicción de Herodes, lo envió a Herodes, que también estaba en Jerusalén en esos días.
When he found out that he was in Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.
8 Cuando Herodes vio a Jesús, se alegró mucho, pues hacía tiempo que quería verlo, porque había oído hablar mucho de él. Esperaba ver algún milagro hecho por él.
Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.
9 Lo interrogó con muchas palabras, pero no le respondió.
He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers.
10 Los jefes de los sacerdotes y los escribas estaban de pie, acusándolo con vehemencia.
The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.
11 Herodes y sus soldados lo humillaron y se burlaron de él. Vistiéndolo con ropas lujosas, lo enviaron de vuelta a Pilato.
Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.
12 Ese mismo día Herodes y Pilato se hicieron amigos entre sí, pues antes eran enemigos entre sí.
Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.
13 Pilato convocó a los jefes de los sacerdotes, a los gobernantes y al pueblo,
Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,
14 y les dijo: “Me habéis traído a este hombre como a uno que pervierte al pueblo, y he aquí, habiéndolo examinado delante de vosotros, no he encontrado fundamento para acusar a este hombre de las cosas de que le acusáis.
and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and behold, having examined him before you, I found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.
15 Tampoco lo ha hecho Herodes, pues os he enviado a él, y ved que no ha hecho nada digno de muerte.
Neither has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.
16 Por lo tanto, lo castigaré y lo liberaré”.
I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
17 Ahora bien, tenía que soltarles un prisionero en la fiesta.
Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.
18 Pero todos gritaron juntos, diciendo: “¡Quita a este hombre! Y suéltanos a Barrabás!
But they all cried out together, saying, “Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!”—
19 que había sido encarcelado por una revuelta en la ciudad y por asesinato.
one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.
20 Entonces Pilato les habló de nuevo, queriendo liberar a Jesús,
Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus,
21 pero ellos gritaron diciendo: “¡Crucifícalo! Crucifícalo!”
but they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!”
22 La tercera vez les dijo: “¿Por qué? ¿Qué mal ha hecho este hombre? No he encontrado en él ningún delito capital. Por tanto, lo castigaré y lo soltaré”.
He said to them the third time, “Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
23 Pero ellos urgían a grandes voces, pidiendo que fuera crucificado. Sus voces y las de los jefes de los sacerdotes prevalecieron.
But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.
24 Pilato decretó que se hiciera lo que ellos pedían.
Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.
25 Liberó al que habían metido en la cárcel por insurrección y asesinato, por el que pedían, pero entregó a Jesús a la voluntad de ellos.
He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.
26 Cuando se lo llevaron, agarraron a un tal Simón de Cirene, que venía del campo, y le pusieron la cruz para que la llevara tras Jesús.
When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid the cross on him to carry it after Jesus.
27 Le seguía una gran multitud del pueblo, incluidas las mujeres, que también le lloraban y se lamentaban.
A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him.
28 Pero Jesús, dirigiéndose a ellas, les dijo: “Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloréis por mí, sino llorad por vosotras y por vuestros hijos.
But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
29 Porque he aquí que vienen días en que dirán: ‘Benditas sean las estériles, los vientres que nunca dieron a luz y los pechos que nunca amamantaron’.
For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’
30 Entonces comenzarán a decir a los montes: “¡Caigan sobre nosotros!” y a las colinas: “Cúbrannos.
Then they will begin to tell the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and tell the hills, ‘Cover us.’
31 Porque si hacen estas cosas en el árbol verde, ¿qué se hará en el seco?”
For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?”
32 Había también otros, dos delincuentes, conducidos con él para ser ejecutados.
There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.
33 Cuando llegaron al lugar que se llama “La Calavera”, lo crucificaron allí con los criminales, uno a la derecha y el otro a la izquierda.
When they came to the place that is called “The Skull”, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
34 Jesús dijo: “Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen”. Repartiendo sus vestidos entre ellos, echaron suertes.
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.
35 El pueblo se quedó mirando. Los jefes que estaban con ellos también se burlaban de él, diciendo: “Ha salvado a otros. Que se salve a sí mismo, si éste es el Cristo de Dios, su elegido”.
The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”
36 Los soldados también se burlaron de él, acercándose y ofreciéndole vinagre,
The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,
37 y diciendo: “Si eres el Rey de los Judíos, sálvate”.
and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”
38 También se escribió sobre él una inscripción en letras de griego, latín y hebreo: “ESTE ES EL REY DE LOS JUDÍOS”.
An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
39 Uno de los delincuentes ahorcados le insultó diciendo: “¡Si eres el Cristo, sálvate a ti mismo y a nosotros!”.
One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!”
40 Pero el otro contestó, y reprendiéndole le dijo: “¿Ni siquiera temes a Dios, viendo que estás bajo la misma condena?
But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Don’t you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?
41 Y nosotros, ciertamente, con justicia, pues recibimos la debida recompensa por nuestras obras, pero este hombre no ha hecho nada malo.”
And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.”
42 Le dijo a Jesús: “Señor, acuérdate de mí cuando vengas a tu Reino”.
He said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”
43 Jesús le dijo: “Te aseguro que hoy estarás conmigo en el Paraíso”.
Jesus said to him, “Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
44 Era ya como la hora sexta, y las tinieblas llegaron a toda la tierra hasta la hora novena.
It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.
45 El sol se oscureció y el velo del templo se rasgó en dos.
The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.
46 Jesús, gritando a gran voz, dijo: “Padre, en tus manos encomiendo mi espíritu”. Dicho esto, expiró.
Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last.
47 Cuando el centurión vio lo que se había hecho, glorificó a Dios, diciendo: “Ciertamente éste era un hombre justo.”
When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous man.”
48 Toda la multitud que se había reunido para ver esto, al ver lo que se había hecho, volvió a su casa golpeándose el pecho.
All the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned home beating their chests.
49 Todos sus conocidos y las mujeres que le seguían desde Galilea se quedaron a distancia, viendo estas cosas.
All his acquaintances and the women who followed with him from Galilee stood at a distance, watching these things.
50 He aquí que había un hombre llamado José, que era miembro del consejo, hombre bueno y justo
Behold, there was a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man
51 (no había consentido su consejo y su obra), de Arimatea, ciudad de los judíos, que también esperaba el Reino de Dios.
(he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for God’s Kingdom.
52 Este hombre fue a Pilato y pidió el cuerpo de Jesús.
This man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body.
53 Lo bajó, lo envolvió en una tela de lino y lo puso en un sepulcro tallado en piedra, donde nunca se había puesto a nadie.
He took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been laid.
54 Era el día de la Preparación, y se acercaba el sábado.
It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near.
55 Las mujeres que habían venido con él desde Galilea le siguieron, y vieron el sepulcro y cómo estaba colocado su cuerpo.
The women who had come with him out of Galilee followed after, and saw the tomb and how his body was laid.
56 Volvieron y prepararon especias y ungüentos. El sábado descansaron según el mandamiento.
They returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
