1 Znaš li vrijeme kad se divokoze koze? i jesi li vidio kad se košute legu?
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? [or] canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
2 Jesi li izbrojio mjesece, dokle nose? znaš li vrijeme kad se legu?
Canst thou number the months [that] they fulfill? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
3 Kako se savijaju, mlad svoju ispuštaju, i opraštaju se bolova?
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
4 Kako jaèa mlad njihova, raste po polju i otišavši ne vraæa se k njima?
Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not to them.
5 Ko je pustio divljega magarca da je slobodan, i remene divljemu magarcu ko je razdriješio?
Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
6 Kojemu odredih pustinju za kuæu i za stan slatinu.
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
7 On se smije vrevi gradskoj, i ne sluša vike nastojnikove.
He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
8 Što nalazi u gorama, ono mu je piæa, i traži svaku zelen.
The range of the mountains [is] his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
9 Bi li ti jednorog htio služiti? bi li noæivao za jaslima tvojim?
Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
10 Možeš li vezati užem jednoroga da ore? hoæe li vlaèiti brazde za tobom?
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11 Hoæeš li se osloniti na nj što mu je snaga velika? i ostaviti na njemu svoj posao?
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength [is] great? or wilt thou leave thy labor to him?
12 Hoæeš li se pouzdati u nj da æe ti svesti ljetinu i na gumno tvoje složiti?
Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather [it into] thy barn?
13 Jesi li ti dao paunu lijepa krila i perje èaplji ili noju?
[Gavest thou] the goodly wings to the peacocks? or wings and feathers to the ostrich!
14 Koji snese na zemlji jajca svoja, i ostavi da ih prah grije;
Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in the dust,
15 I ne misli da æe ih noga razbiti i zvijer poljska zgaziti;
And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
16 Nemilostiv je ptiæima svojim kao da nijesu njegovi, i da mu trud ne bude uzalud ne boji se.
She is hardened against her young ones, as though [they were] not hers: her labor is in vain without fear;
17 Jer mu Bog nije dao mudrost niti mu je udijelio razuma.
Because God hath withheld wisdom from her, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
18 Kad se podigne u vis, smije se konju i konjiku.
When she lifteth herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
19 Jesi li ti dao konju jaèinu? jesi li ti okitio vrat njegov rzanjem?
Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
20 Hoæeš li ga poplašiti kao skakavca? frkanje nozdrva njegovijeh strašno je;
Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils [is] terrible.
21 Kopa zemlju, veseo je od sile, ide na susret oružju;
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in [his] strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
22 Smije se strahu i ne plaši se niti uzmièe ispred maèa;
He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23 Kad zvekæe nad njim tul i sijeva koplje i sulica;
The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
24 Od nemirnoæe i ljutine kopa zemlju, i ne može da stoji kad truba zatrubi.
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that [it is] the sound of the trumpet.
25 Kad truba zatrubi, on vrišti, izdaleka èuje boj, viku vojvoda i pokliè.
He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26 Eda li po tvome razumu leti jastrijeb? širi krila svoja na jug?
Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, [and] stretch her wings towards the south?
27 Eda li se na tvoju zapovijest diže u vis orao, i na visini vije gnijezdo?
Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
28 Na stijeni stanuje i bavi se, navrh stijene, na tvrdu mjestu.
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
29 Odatle gleda hrane, daleko mu vide oèi.
From thence she seeketh the prey, [and] her eyes behold afar off.
30 I ptiæi njegovi piju krv, i gdje su mrtva tjelesa ondje je on.
Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain [are], there [is] she.
