Jó 9
1 Então Job respondeu, e disse:
Then Job answered and said,
2 Na verdade sei que assim é; porque como se justificaria o homem para com Deus?
I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
3 Se quizer contender com ele, nem a uma de mil coisas lhe poderá responder.
If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
4 Ele é sábio de coração, e forte de forças: quem se endureceu contra ele, e teve paz?
He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?
5 Ele é o que transporta as montanhas, sem que o sintam, e o que as transtorna no seu furor.
Which removes the mountains, and they know not: which overturns them in his anger.
6 O que remove a terra do seu lugar, e as suas colunas estremecem.
Which shakes the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
7 O que fala ao sol, e não sai, e sela as estrelas.
Which commands the sun, and it rises not; and seals up the stars.
8 O que só estende os céus, e anda sobre os altos do mar.
Which alone spreads out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea.
9 O que faz a Ursa, o Orion, e o Setestrello, e as recâmaras do sul.
Which makes Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
10 O que faz coisas grandes, que se não podem esquadrinhar: e maravilhas tais que se não podem contar.
Which does great things past finding out; yes, and wonders without number.
11 Eis que passa por diante de mim, e não o vejo: e torna a passar perante mim, e não o sinto.
See, he goes by me, and I see him not: he passes on also, but I perceive him not.
12 Eis que arrebata; quem lho fará restituir? quem lhe dirá: Que é o que fazes?
Behold, he takes away, who can hinder him? who will say to him, What do you?
13 Deus não revogará a sua ira: debaixo dele se encurvam os auxiliadores soberbos.
If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.
14 Quanto menos lhe responderia eu! ou escolheria diante dele as minhas palavras!
How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?
15 A quem, ainda que eu fosse justo, lhe não responderia: antes ao meu Juiz pediria misericórdia.
Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.
16 Ainda que chamasse, e ele me respondesse, nem por isso creria que desse ouvidos à minha voz.
If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had listened to my voice.
17 Porque me quebranta com uma tempestade, e multiplica as minhas chagas sem causa.
For he breaks me with a tempest, and multiplies my wounds without cause.
18 Nem me concede o respirar, antes me farta de amarguras.
He will not suffer me to take my breath, but fills me with bitterness.
19 Quanto às forças, eis que ele é o forte: e, quanto ao juízo, quem me citará com ele?
If I speak of strength, see, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?
20 Se eu me justificar, a minha boca me condenará: se for reto, então me declarará por perverso.
If I justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.
21 Se for reto, não estimo a minha alma: deprezo a minha vida.
Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.
22 A coisa é esta; por isso eu digo que ele consome ao reto e ao ímpio.
This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroys the perfect and the wicked.
23 Matando o açoite de repente, então se ri da prova dos inocentes.
If the whip slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.
24 A terra se entrega na mão do ímpio; ele cobre o rosto dos juízes: se não é ele, quem é logo?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covers the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?
25 E os meus dias são mais velozes do que um correio: fugiram, e nunca viram o bem.
Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.
26 Passam como navios veleiros: como águia que se lança à comida.
They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hastens to the prey.
27 Se eu disser: Me esquecerei da minha queixa, e mudarei o meu rosto, e tomarei alento;
If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:
28 Receio todas as minhas dores, porque bem sei que me não terás por inocente.
I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that you will not hold me innocent.
29 E, sendo eu ímpio, por que trabalharei em vão?
If I be wicked, why then labor I in vain?
30 Ainda que me lave com água de neve, e purifique as minhas mãos com sabão,
If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
31 Ainda me submergirás no fosso, e os meus próprios vestidos me abominarão.
Yet shall you plunge me in the ditch, and my own clothes shall abhor me.
32 Porque ele não é homem, como eu, a quem eu responda, vindo juntamente a juízo.
For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.
33 Não há entre nós árbitro que ponha a mão sobre nós ambos.
Neither is there any judge between us, that might lay his hand on us both.
34 Tire ele a sua vara de cima de mim, e não me amedronte o seu terror.
Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:
35 Então falarei, e não o temerei; porque assim não estou comigo.
Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.
