Oséias 4
1 Ouvi a palavra do Senhor, vós, filhos de Israel, porque o Senhor tem uma contenda com os habitantes da terra, porque não há verdade, nem benignidade, nem conhecimento de Deus na terra.
Hear the Lord’s message, Israelites, for the Lord has brought charges against the inhabitants of the land, for there is no fidelity, nor true love, nor knowledge of God in the land,
2 Mas o perjurar, e o mentir, e o matar, e o furtar, e o adulterar, prevalecem, e os homicídios se tocaram com homicídios.
but cursing, lying, and murder, stealing, committing adultery, and deeds of violence, and acts of bloodshed quickly follow each other.
3 Por isso a terra se lamentará, e qualquer que morar nela desfalecerá, com os animais do campo e com as aves do céu; e até os peixes do mar serão tirados.
Therefore the land mourns, all its inhabitants languish, the wild animals and the birds of the skies, even the fish of the sea are dying.
4 Porém ninguém contenda, nem repreenda a alguém, porque o teu povo é como os que contendem com o sacerdote.
Yet let no one bring charges, let none accuse, for your people are like those, who bring charges against a priest.
5 Por isso cairás de dia, e o profeta contigo cairá de noite, e destruirei a tua mãe.
You stumble by day, and the prophet stumbles with you by night, and I will destroy your mother.
6 O meu povo foi destruído, porque lhe faltou o conhecimento: porque tu rejeitaste o conhecimento, também eu te rejeitarei, para que não sejas sacerdote diante de mim; e, visto que te esqueceste da lei do teu Deus, também eu me esquecerei de teus filhos.
My people are being destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge I reject you from being priest to me. Since you have forgotten the teaching of your God, I also will forget your children.
7 Assim como eles se multiplicaram, assim contra mim pecaram: eu mudarei a sua honra em vergonha.
The more priests there are, the more they sin against me. I will change their dignity to dishonour.
8 Comem do pecado do meu povo, e da sua maldade dele tem desejo ardente.
They feed on the sin offerings of my people, so they hunger after their guilt.
9 Portanto, como o povo, assim será o sacerdote; e visitarei sobre ele os seus caminhos, e lhe recompensarei as suas obras.
Thus it comes to be, like people, like priest: I will visit upon each punishment for their ways, and their deeds I will repay them.
10 Comerão, mas não se fartarão; fornicarão, mas não se multiplicarão; porque deixaram de olhar para o Senhor.
They will eat and not be satisfied, they will sleep around but stay childless, because they have abandoned the Lord to give themselves to
11 A fornicação, e o vinho, e o mosto tiram o coração.
prostitution. Old and new wine take away the understanding.
12 O meu povo consulta a sua madeira, e a sua vara lhe responde, porque o espírito de fornicações os engana, e fornicam, apartando-se da sujeição do seu Deus.
My own people ask counsel of a piece of wood! A stick gives them advice! For a spirit of prostitution has led them astray, they commit adultery against their God.
13 Sacrificam sobre os cumes dos montes, e queimam incenso sobre os outeiros, debaixo do carvalho, e do álamo, e do olmeiro, porque é boa a sua sombra: por isso vossas filhas fornicam, e as vossas noras adulteram.
On the heights of the mountains they sacrifice, and on the hills they burn incense under oaks and poplars and terebinths, for their shade is so pleasant. Therefore your daughters become cult prostitutes, and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.
14 Porventura não visitarei sobre vossas filhas, que fornicam, nem sobre vossas noras, que adulteram, porque eles mesmos com as prostitutas se desviam, e com as meretrizes sacrificam; pois o povo que não tem entendimento será transtornado.
I will not punish your daughters for committing prostitution, nor your daughters-in-law for adultery. Your men visit prostitutes, sacrifice with cult prostitutes. So a people without understanding come to ruin!
15 Se tu, ó Israel, queres fornicar, ao menos não se faça culpado Judá: não venhais a Gilgal, e não subais a Beth-aven, e não jureis, dizendo: Vive o Senhor.
Though you commit adultery, Israel, let not Judah become guilty. Do not go to Gilgal, do not go up to Beth-aven, nor swear an oath, ‘As the Lord lives.’
16 Porque como uma vaca rebelde se rebelou Israel: agora o Senhor os apascentará como a um cordeiro num lugar espaçoso.
Like a wilful heifer, Israel is stubborn. Can the Lord now feed them as he would a lamb in a broad pasture?
17 Ephraim é dado a ídolos; deixa-o.
Ephraim is wedded to idols. Leave them alone!
18 A sua bebida se foi: fornicando, fornicam; certamente amaram a vergonha os seus príncipes.
When their drinking is over they sleep with the cult prostitutes, their rulers love shameful ways.
19 Um vento os atou nas suas asas, e envergonhar-se-ão por causa dos seus sacrifícios.
A windstorm will wrap them in its wings and they will be ashamed of their sacrifices.
