イザヤ書 42
1 わたしの支持するわがしもべ、わたしの喜ぶわが選び人を見よ。わたしはわが霊を彼に与えた。彼はもろもろの国びとに道をしめす。
Behold My servant, whom I uphold; Mine elect, in whom My soul delighteth; I have put My spirit upon him, he shall make the right to go forth to the nations.
2 彼は叫ぶことなく、声をあげることなく、その声をちまたに聞えさせず、
He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
3 また傷ついた葦を折ることなく、ほのぐらい灯心を消すことなく、真実をもって道をしめす。
A bruised reed shall he not break, and the dimly burning wick shall he not quench; he shall make the right to go forth according to the truth.
4 彼は衰えず、落胆せず、ついに道を地に確立する。海沿いの国々はその教を待ち望む。
He shall not fail nor be crushed, till he have set the right in the earth; and the isles shall wait for his teaching.
5 天を創造してこれをのべ、地とそれに生ずるものをひらき、その上の民に息を与え、その中を歩む者に霊を与えられる主なる神はこう言われる、
Thus saith God the LORD, He that created the heavens, and stretched them forth, He that spread forth the earth and that which cometh out of it, He that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
6 「主なるわたしは正義をもってあなたを召した。わたしはあなたの手をとり、あなたを守った。わたしはあなたを民の契約とし、もろもろの国びとの光として与え、
I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and have taken hold of thy hand, and kept thee, and set thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the nations;
7 盲人の目を開き、囚人を地下の獄屋から出し、暗きに座する者を獄屋から出させる。
To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.
8 わたしは主である、これがわたしの名である。わたしはわが栄光をほかの者に与えない。また、わが誉を刻んだ像に与えない。
I am the LORD, that is My name; and My glory will I not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.
9 見よ、さきに預言した事は起った。わたしは新しい事を告げよう。その事がまだ起らない前に、わたしはまず、あなたがたに知らせよう」。
Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.
10 主にむかって新しき歌をうたえ。地の果から主をほめたたえよ。海とその中に満ちるもの、海沿いの国々とそれに住む者とは鳴りどよめ。
Sing unto the LORD a new song, and His praise from the end of the earth; ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein, the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
11 荒野とその中のもろもろの町と、ケダルびとの住むもろもろの村里は声をあげよ。セラの民は喜びうたえ。山の頂から呼ばわり叫べ。
Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit; let the inhabitants of Sela exult, let them shout from the top of the mountains.
12 栄光を主に帰し、その誉を海沿いの国々で語り告げよ。
Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare His praise in the islands.
13 主は勇士のように出て行き、いくさ人のように熱心を起し、ときの声をあげて呼ばわり、その敵にむかって大能をあらわされる。
The LORD will go forth as a mighty man, He will stir up jealousy like a man of war; He will cry, yea, He will shout aloud, He will prove Himself mighty against His enemies.
14 わたしは久しく声を出さず、黙して、おのれをおさえていた。今わたしは子を産もうとする女のように叫ぶ。わたしの息は切れ、かつあえぐ。
I have long time held My peace, I have been still, and refrained Myself; now will I cry like a travailing woman, gasping and panting at once.
15 わたしは山と丘とを荒し、すべての草を枯らし、もろもろの川を島とし、もろもろの池をからす。
I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and will dry up the pools.
16 わたしは目しいを彼らのまだ知らない大路に行かせ、まだ知らない道に導き、暗きをその前に光とし、高低のある所を平らにする。わたしはこれらの事をおこなって彼らを捨てない。
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not, in paths that they knew not will I lead them; I will make darkness light before them, and rugged places plain. These things will I do, and I will not leave them undone.
17 刻んだ偶像に頼み、鋳た偶像にむかって「あなたがたは、われわれの神である」と言う者は退けられて、大いに恥をかく。
They shall be turned back, greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say unto molten images: 'Ye are our gods.'
18 耳しいよ、聞け。目しいよ、目を注いで見よ。
Hear, ye deaf, and look, ye blind, that ye may see.
19 だれか、わがしもべのほかに目しいがあるか。だれか、わがつかわす使者のような耳しいがあるか。だれか、わが献身者のような目しいがあるか。だれか、主のしもべのような目しいがあるか。
Who is blind, but My servant? Or deaf, as My messenger that I send? Who is blind as he that is wholehearted, and blind as the LORD'S servant?
20 彼は多くの事を見ても認めず、耳を開いても聞かない。
Seeing many things, thou observest not; opening the ears, he heareth not.
21 主はおのれの義のために、その教を大いなるものとし、かつ光栄あるものとすることを喜ばれた。
The LORD was pleased, for His righteousness' sake, to make the teaching great and glorious.
22 ところが、この民はかすめられ、奪われて、みな穴の中に捕われ、獄屋の中に閉じこめられた。彼らはかすめられても助ける者がなく、物を奪われても「もどせ」と言う者もない。
But this is a people robbed and spoiled, they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison-houses; they are for a prey, and none delivereth, for a spoil, and none saith: 'Restore.'
23 あなたがたのうち、だれがこの事に耳を傾けるだろうか、だれが心をもちいて後のためにこれを聞くだろうか。
Who among you will give ear to this? Who will hearken and hear for the time to come?
24 ヤコブを奪わせた者はだれか。かすめる者にイスラエルをわたした者はだれか。これは主ではないか。われわれは主にむかって罪を犯し、その道に歩むことを好まず、またその教に従うことを好まなかった。
Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? Did not the LORD? He against whom we have sinned, and in whose ways they would not walk, neither were they obedient unto His law.
25 それゆえ、主は激しい怒りと、猛烈な戦いを彼らに臨ませられた。それが火のように周囲に燃えても、彼らは悟らず、彼らを焼いても、心にとめなかった。
Therefore He poured upon him the fury of His anger, and the strength of battle; and it set him on fire round about, yet he knew not, and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
