イザヤ書 41
1 海沿いの国々よ、静かにして、わたしに聞け。もろもろの民よ、力を新たにし、近づいて語れ。われわれは共にさばきの座に近づこう。
Keep silence before Me, O islands, and let the peoples renew their strength; let them draw near, then let them speak; let us come near together to judgment.
2 だれが東から人を起したか。彼はその行く所で勝利をもって迎えられ、もろもろの国を征服し、もろもろの王を足の下に踏みつけ、そのつるぎをもって彼らをちりのようにし、その弓をもって吹き去られる、わらのようにする。
Who hath raised up one from the east, at whose steps victory attendeth? He giveth nations before him, and maketh him rule over kings; his sword maketh them as the dust, his bow as the driven stubble.
3 彼はこれらの者を追ってその足のまだ踏んだことのない道を、安らかに過ぎて行く。
He pursueth them, and passeth on safely; the way with his feet he treadeth not.
4 だれがこの事を行ったか、なしたか。だれが初めから世々の人々を呼び出したか。主なるわたしは初めであって、また終りと共にあり、わたしがそれだ。
Who hath wrought and done it? He that called the generations from the beginning. I, the LORD, who am the first, and with the last am the same.
5 海沿いの国々は見て恐れ、地の果は、おののき、近づいて来た。
The isles saw, and feared; the ends of the earth trembled; they drew near, and came.
6 彼らはおのおのその隣を助け、その兄弟たちに言う、「勇気を出せよ」と。
They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother: 'Be of good courage.'
7 細工人は鍛冶を励まし、鎚をもって平らかにする者は金敷きを打つ者に、はんだづけについて言う、「それは良い」と。また、くぎをもってそれを堅くし、動くことのないようにする。
So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smiteth the anvil, saying of the soldering: 'It is good'; and he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved.
8 しかし、わがしもべイスラエルよ、わたしの選んだヤコブ、わが友アブラハムの子孫よ、
But thou, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham My friend;
9 わたしは地の果から、あなたを連れてき、地のすみずみから、あなたを召して、あなたに言った、「あなたは、わたしのしもべ、わたしは、あなたを選んで捨てなかった」と。
Thou whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the uttermost parts thereof, and said unto thee: 'Thou art My servant, I have chosen thee and not cast thee away';
10 恐れてはならない、わたしはあなたと共にいる。驚いてはならない、わたしはあなたの神である。わたしはあなたを強くし、あなたを助け、わが勝利の右の手をもって、あなたをささえる。
Fear thou not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I strengthen thee, yea, I help thee; yea, I uphold thee with My victorious right hand.
11 見よ、あなたにむかって怒る者はみな、はじて、あわてふためき、あなたと争う者は滅びて無に帰する。
Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded; they that strove with thee shall be as nothing, and shall perish.
12 あなたは、あなたと争う者を尋ねても見いださず、あなたと戦う者は全く消えうせる。
Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee; they that warred against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
13 あなたの神、主なるわたしはあなたの右の手をとってあなたに言う、「恐れてはならない、わたしはあなたを助ける」。
For I the LORD thy God hold thy right hand, who say unto thee: 'Fear not, I help thee.'
14 主は言われる、「虫にひとしいヤコブよ、イスラエルの人々よ、恐れてはならない。わたしはあなたを助ける。あなたをあがなう者はイスラエルの聖者である。
Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I help thee, saith the LORD, and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
15 見よ、わたしはあなたを鋭い歯のある新しい打穀機とする。あなたは山を打って、これを粉々にし、丘をもみがらのようにする。
Behold, I make thee a new threshing-sledge having sharp teeth; thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.
16 あなたがあおげば風はこれを巻き去り、つむじ風がこれを吹き散らす。あなたは主によって喜びイスラエルの聖者によって誇る。
Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them; and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, thou shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.
17 貧しい者と乏しい者とは水を求めても、水がなく、その舌がかわいて焼けているとき、主なるわたしは彼らに答える、イスラエルの神なるわたしは彼らを捨てることがない。
The poor and needy seek water and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst; I the LORD will answer them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
18 わたしは裸の山に川を開き、谷の中に泉をいだし、荒野を池となし、かわいた地を水の源とする。
I will open rivers on the high hills, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
19 わたしは荒野に香柏、アカシヤ、ミルトスおよびオリブの木を植え、さばくに、いとすぎ、すずかけ、からまつをともに置く。
I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia-tree, and the myrtle, and the oil-tree; I will set in the desert the cypress, the plane-tree, and the larch together;
20 人々はこれを見て、主のみ手がこれをなし、イスラエルの聖者がこれを創造されたことを知り、かつ、よく考えて共に悟る」。
That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
21 主は言われる、「あなたがたの訴えを出せ」と。ヤコブの王は言われる、「あなたがたの証拠を持ってこい。
Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your reasons, saith the King of Jacob.
22 それを持ってきて、起るべき事をわれわれに告げよ。さきの事どもの何であるかを告げよ。われわれはよく考えて、その結末を知ろう。あるいはきたるべき事をわれわれに聞かせよ。
Let them bring them forth, and declare unto us the things that shall happen; the former things, what are they? Declare ye, that we may consider, and know the end of them; or announce to us things to come.
23 この後きたるべき事をわれわれに告げよ。われわれはあなたがたが神であることを知るであろう。幸をくだし、あるいは災をくだせ。われわれは驚いて肝をつぶすであろう。
Declare the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods; yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
24 見よ、あなたがたは無きものである。あなたがたのわざはむなしい。あなたがたを選ぶ者は憎むべき者である」。
Behold, ye are nothing, and your work a thing of nought; an abomination is he that chooseth you.
25 わたしはひとりを起して北からこさせ、わが名を呼ぶ者を東からこさせる。彼はもろもろのつかさを踏みつけてしっくいのようにし、陶器師が粘土を踏むようにする。
I have roused up one from the north, and he is come, from the rising of the sun one that calleth upon My name; and he shall come upon rulers as upon mortar, and as the potter treadeth clay.
26 だれか、初めからこの事をわれわれに告げ知らせたか。だれか、あらかじめわれわれに告げて、「彼は正しい」と言わせたか。ひとりもこの事を告げた者はない。ひとりも聞かせた者はない。ひとりもあなたがたの言葉を聞いた者はない。
Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say that he is right? Yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that announceth, yea, there is none that heareth your utterances.
27 わたしははじめてこれをシオンに告げた。わたしは、よきおとずれを伝える者をエルサレムに与える。
A harbinger unto Zion will I give: 'Behold, behold them', and to Jerusalem a messenger of good tidings.
28 しかし、わたしが見ると、ひとりもない。彼らのなかには、わたしが尋ねても答えうる助言者はひとりもない。
And I look, but there is no man; even among them, but there is no counsellor, that, when I ask of them, can give an answer.
29 見よ、彼らはみな人を惑わす者であって、そのわざは無きもの、その鋳た像はむなしき風である。
Behold, all of them, their works are vanity and nought; their molten images are wind and confusion.
