Proverbes 5
1 Mon fils, sois attentif à ma sagesse, Prête l’oreille à mon intelligence,
My son, pay attention to my wisdom; incline your ears to my understanding,
2 Afin que tu conserves la réflexion, Et que tes lèvres gardent la connaissance.
so you may learn about discretion and your lips may protect knowledge.
3 Car les lèvres de l’étrangère distillent le miel, Et son palais est plus doux que l’huile;
For the lips of an adulteress drip with honey and her mouth is smoother than oil,
4 Mais à la fin elle est amère comme l’absinthe, Aiguë comme un glaive à deux tranchants.
but in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, cutting like a sharp sword.
Her feet go down to death; her steps go all the way to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
6 Afin de ne pas considérer le chemin de la vie, Elle est errante dans ses voies, elle ne sait où elle va.
She gives no thought to the path of life. Her footsteps wander; she does not know where she is going.
7 Et maintenant, mes fils, écoutez-moi, Et ne vous écartez pas des paroles de ma bouche.
Now, my sons, listen to me; do not turn away from listening to the words of my mouth.
8 Éloigne-toi du chemin qui conduit chez elle, Et ne t’approche pas de la porte de sa maison,
Keep your path far away from her and do not come near the door of her house.
9 De peur que tu ne livres ta vigueur à d’autres, Et tes années à un homme cruel;
In that way you will not give away your honor to others or years of your life to a cruel person;
10 De peur que des étrangers ne se rassasient de ton bien, Et du produit de ton travail dans la maison d’autrui;
strangers will not feast on your wealth; what you have worked for will not go into the house of strangers.
11 De peur que tu ne gémisses, près de ta fin, Quand ta chair et ton corps se consumeront,
At the end of your life you will groan when your flesh and your body waste away.
12 Et que tu ne dises: Comment donc ai-je pu haïr la correction, Et comment mon cœur a-t-il dédaigné la réprimande?
You will say, “How I hated instruction and my heart despised correction!
13 Comment ai-je pu ne pas écouter la voix de mes maîtres, Ne pas prêter l’oreille à ceux qui m’instruisaient?
I would not obey my teachers or incline my ear to my instructors.
14 Peu s’en est fallu que je n’aie éprouvé tous les malheurs Au milieu du peuple et de l’assemblée.
I was almost completely ruined in the midst of the assembly, among the gathering of the people.”
15 Bois les eaux de ta citerne, Les eaux qui sortent de ton puits.
Drink water from your own cistern and drink running water from your own well.
16 Tes sources doivent-elles se répandre au-dehors? Tes ruisseaux doivent ils couler sur les places publiques?
Should your springs overflow everywhere and your streams of water flow in the public squares?
17 Qu’ils soient pour toi seul, Et non pour des étrangers avec toi.
Let them be for yourself alone and not for strangers with you.
18 Que ta source soit bénie, Et fais ta joie de la femme de ta jeunesse,
May your fountain be blessed and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth,
19 Biche des amours, gazelle pleine de grâce: Sois en tout temps enivré de ses charmes, Sans cesse épris de son amour.
for she is a loving deer and a graceful doe. Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; may you be continually intoxicated by her love.
20 Et pourquoi, mon fils, serais-tu épris d’une étrangère, Et embrasserais-tu le sein d’une inconnue?
For why should you, my son, be captivated by an adulteress; why should you embrace the breasts of an immoral woman?
21 Car les voies de l’homme sont devant les yeux de l’Éternel, Qui observe tous ses sentiers.
Yahweh sees everything a person does and watches all the paths he takes.
22 Le méchant est pris dans ses propres iniquités, Il est saisi par les liens de son péché.
A wicked person will be seized by his own iniquities; the cords of his sin will hold him tight.
23 Il mourra faute d’instruction, Il chancellera par l’excès de sa folie.
He will die because he lacks instruction; he is led astray by his great foolishness.
