2 Chroniques 6

1 Alors Salomon dit: L’Éternel a dit qu’il habiterait dans l’obscurité profonde.

Then Solomon said, O Lord, to the sun you have given the heaven for a living-place, but your living-place was not seen by men,

2 Mais moi j’ai bâti une maison d’habitation pour toi, un lieu fixe pour que tu y demeures à toujours.

So I have made for you a living-place, a house in which you may be for ever present.

3 Et le roi tourna sa face, et bénit toute la congrégation d’Israël; et toute la congrégation d’Israël était debout.

Then, turning his face about, the king gave a blessing to all the men of Israel; and they were all on their feet together.

4 Et il dit: Béni soit l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, qui parla de sa bouche à David, mon père, et de sa main a accompli [sa parole], disant:

And he said, Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who himself gave his word to my father David, and with his strong hand has made his word come true, saying,

5 Depuis le jour où j’ai fait sortir mon peuple du pays d’Égypte, je n’ai choisi aucune ville d’entre toutes les tribus d’Israël pour [y] bâtir une maison afin que mon nom y soit, et je n’ai pas choisi d’homme pour être prince sur mon peuple Israël;

From the day when I took my people out of the land of Egypt, no town in all the tribes of Israel has been marked out by me for the building of a house for the resting-place of my name; and I took no man to be a ruler over my people Israel;

6 mais j’ai choisi Jérusalem, afin que mon nom y soit; et j’ai choisi David pour être [roi] sur mon peuple Israël.

But now I have made selection of Jerusalem, that my name might be there, and of David, to be over my people Israel.

7 Et David, mon père, avait à cœur de bâtir une maison pour le nom de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël.

Now it was in the heart of my father David to put up a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.

8 Et l’Éternel dit à David, mon père: Puisque tu as eu à cœur de bâtir une maison pour mon nom, tu as bien fait de l’avoir eu à cœur;

But the Lord said to David my father, You did well to have in your heart the desire to make a house for my name:

9 toutefois, tu ne bâtiras pas la maison; mais ton fils qui sortira de tes reins, lui, bâtira une maison pour mon nom.

But you yourself will not be the builder of the house; but your son, the offspring of your body, he it is who will put up a house for my name.

10 Et l’Éternel a accompli sa parole, qu’il a prononcée; et je me suis levé à la place de David, mon père, et je suis assis sur le trône d’Israël, comme l’Éternel l’a dit; et j’ai bâti la maison pour le nom de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël,

And the Lord has kept his word; for I have taken my father David's place on the seat of the kingdom of Israel, as the Lord gave his word; and I have made the house for the name of the Lord the God of Israel.

11 et j’y ai mis l’arche, où est l’alliance de l’Éternel, qu’il a faite avec les fils d’Israël.

And there I have put the ark, in which is the agreement of the Lord, which he made with the people of Israel.

12 Et il se tint devant l’autel de l’Éternel, en face de toute la congrégation d’Israël, et étendit ses mains;

Then he took his place in front of the altar of the Lord, all the men of Israel being present,

13 car Salomon avait fait une estrade d’airain, longue de cinq coudées, large de cinq coudées, et haute de trois coudées, et l’avait mise au milieu de la cour; et il s’y tint, et fléchit les genoux en face de toute la congrégation d’Israël, et étendit ses mains vers les cieux,

(For Solomon had made a brass stage, five cubits long, five cubits wide and three cubits high, and had put it in the middle of the open space; on this he took his place and went down on his knees before all the meeting of Israel, stretching out his hands to heaven.)

14 et dit: Éternel, Dieu d’Israël! il n’y a point de Dieu comme toi, dans les cieux et sur la terre, qui gardes l’alliance et la bonté envers tes serviteurs qui marchent devant toi de tout leur cœur,

And he said, O Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven or on earth; keeping faith and mercy unchanging for your servants, while they go in your ways with all their hearts;

15 toi qui as gardé envers ton serviteur David, mon père, ce que tu lui as dit: tu as parlé de ta bouche, et de ta main tu as accompli [ta parole], comme [il paraît] aujourd’hui.

For you have kept the word which you gave to your servant David, my father; with your mouth you said it and with your hand you have made it come true this day.

16 Et maintenant, Éternel, Dieu d’Israël, garde envers ton serviteur David, mon père, ce que tu lui as dit, disant: Tu ne manqueras pas, devant ma face, d’un homme assis sur le trône d’Israël; si seulement tes fils prennent garde à leur voie, pour marcher dans ma loi, comme tu as marché devant moi.

So now, O Lord, the God of Israel, let your word to your servant David, my father, come true, when you said, You will never be without a man to take his place before me on the seat of the kingdom of Israel; if only your children give attention to their ways, walking in my law, as you have done before me.

17 Et maintenant, Éternel, Dieu d’Israël, que ta parole, que tu as dite à ton serviteur David, soit ferme.

So now, O Lord, the God of Israel, make your word come true which you said to your servant David.

18 Mais Dieu habitera-t-il vraiment avec l’homme sur la terre? Voici, les cieux, et les cieux des cieux, ne peuvent te contenir; combien moins cette maison que j’ai bâtie!

But is it truly possible that God may be housed with men on earth? see, heaven and the heaven of heavens are not wide enough to be your resting-place: how much less this house which I have made:

19 Cependant, Éternel, mon Dieu, aie égard à la prière de ton serviteur et à sa supplication, pour écouter le cri et la prière que ton serviteur t’adresse,

Still, let your heart be turned to the prayer of your servant and to his prayer for grace, O Lord my God, and give ear to the cry and the prayer which your servant makes before you;

20 pour que tes yeux soient ouverts jour et nuit sur cette maison, sur le lieu où tu as dit que tu mettrais ton nom, pour écouter la prière que ton serviteur t’adressera [en se tournant] vers ce lieu-ci.

That your eyes may be open to this house day and night, to this place of which you have said that you would put your name there; to give ear to the prayer which your servant may make, turning to this place.

21 Et écoute les supplications de ton serviteur et de ton peuple Israël, qu’ils t’adresseront [en se tournant] vers ce lieu-ci: toi, écoute des cieux, du lieu de ton habitation; écoute et pardonne!

And give ear to the prayers of your servant and of your people Israel, when they make their prayers, turning to this place; give ear from heaven your living-place; and hearing have mercy.

22 Si un homme pèche contre son prochain, et qu’on lui impose le serment, pour le faire jurer, et que le serment vienne devant ton autel dans cette maison:

If a man does wrong to his neighbour and has to take an oath, and comes before your altar to take his oath in this house:

23 alors, toi, écoute des cieux, et agis, et juge tes serviteurs, en rendant au méchant [selon ce qu’il a fait], en faisant retomber sa voie sur sa tête, et en justifiant le juste, en lui donnant selon sa justice.

Then let your ear be open in heaven, and be the judge of your servants, giving punishment to the wrongdoer, so that his sin may come on his head; and, by your decision, keeping from evil him who has done no wrong.

24 Et si ton peuple Israël est battu devant l’ennemi, parce qu’ils ont péché contre toi, et qu’ils retournent [vers toi], et confessent ton nom, et te prient, et présentent leur supplication devant toi dans cette maison:

And if your people Israel are overcome in war, because of their sin against you; if they are turned to you again, honouring your name, making prayers and requesting your grace in this house:

25 alors, toi, écoute des cieux, et pardonne le péché de ton peuple Israël; et fais-les retourner dans la terre que tu leur as donnée, à eux et à leurs pères.

Then give ear from heaven, and let the sin of your people Israel have forgiveness, and take them back again to the land which you gave to them and to their fathers.

26 Quand les cieux seront fermés et qu’il n’y aura pas de pluie, parce qu’ils auront péché contre toi, s’ils prient [en se tournant] vers ce lieu-ci, et qu’ils confessent ton nom et reviennent de leur péché, parce que tu les auras affligés:

When heaven is shut up and there is no rain, because of their sin against you: if they make prayers with their faces turned to this place, honouring your name and turning away from their sin when you send trouble on them:

27 alors, toi, écoute dans les cieux, et pardonne le péché de tes serviteurs et de ton peuple Israël, quand tu leur auras enseigné le bon chemin dans lequel ils doivent marcher; et donne la pluie sur ton pays que tu as donné en héritage à ton peuple.

Then give ear from heaven, so that the sin of your servants and the sin of your people Israel may have forgiveness, when you make clear to them the good way in which they are to go; and send rain on your land which you have given to your people for their heritage.

28 S’il y a famine dans le pays, s’il y a peste, s’il y a brûlure, ou rouille, sauterelles ou locustes, si ses ennemis l’assiègent dans le pays de ses portes, quelque plaie ou quelque maladie qu’il y ait,

If there is no food in the land, if there is disease, if the fruits of the earth are damaged by heat or water, locust or worm; if their towns are shut in by their attackers: whatever trouble or whatever disease there may be:

29 quelle que soit la prière, quelle que soit la supplication que fera un homme quelconque, ou tout ton peuple Israël, quand ils reconnaîtront chacun sa plaie et sa souffrance et qu’ils étendront leurs mains vers cette maison:

Whatever prayer or request for your grace is made by any man, or by all your people Israel, whatever his trouble may be, whose hands are stretched out to this house:

30 alors, toi, écoute des cieux, du lieu de ton habitation, et pardonne, et donne à chacun selon toutes ses voies, suivant que tu connais son cœur (car tu connais, toi seul, le cœur des fils des hommes),

Then give ear from heaven your living-place, answering with forgiveness, and give to every man, whose secret heart is open to you, the reward of all his ways; (for you, and you only, have knowledge of the hearts of the children of men; )

31 afin qu’ils te craignent pour marcher dans tes voies, tous les jours qu’ils vivront sur la face de la terre que tu as donnée à nos pères.

So that they may give you worship, walking in your ways, as long as they are living in the land which you gave to our fathers.

32 Et quant à l’étranger aussi, qui ne sera pas de ton peuple Israël, mais qui viendra d’un pays lointain à cause de ton grand nom, et de ta main forte, et de ton bras étendu, s’il vient et présente sa prière [en se tournant] vers cette maison:

And as for the man from a strange land, who is not of your people Israel but comes from a far country because of the glory of your name and your strong hand and your outstretched arm; when he comes to make his prayer, turning to this house:

33 alors, toi, écoute des cieux, du lieu de ton habitation, et agis selon tout ce que l’étranger réclamera de toi; afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent ton nom, et te craignent, comme ton peuple Israël, et qu’ils sachent que cette maison que j’ai bâtie est appelée de ton nom.

Then give ear from heaven your living-place, and give him his desire, whatever it may be; so that all the peoples of the earth may have knowledge of your name, worshipping you as do your people Israel, and may see that this house which I have made is truly named by your name.

34 Lorsque ton peuple sortira pour la guerre contre ses ennemis, par le chemin par lequel tu l’auras envoyé, et qu’ils te prieront en se tournant vers cette ville que tu as choisie et vers la maison que j’ai bâtie pour ton nom:

If your people go out to war against their attackers, by whatever way you may send them, if they make their prayers to you turning their faces to this town of yours and to this house which I have put up for your name:

35 alors, écoute des cieux leur prière et leur supplication, et fais-leur droit.

Then give ear from heaven to their prayer and their cry for grace, and see right done to them.

36 S’ils ont péché contre toi (car il n’y a point d’homme qui ne pèche), et que tu te sois irrité contre eux, et que tu les aies livrés à l’ennemi, et qu’ils les aient emmenés captifs en un pays éloigné ou rapproché,

If they do wrong against you, (for no man is without sin, ) and you are angry with them, and give them up into the power of those who are fighting against them, so that they take them away prisoners to a land far off or near;

37 et que, dans le pays où ils auront été emmenés captifs, ils rentrent en eux-mêmes, et reviennent [à toi] et te supplient, dans le pays de leur captivité, disant: Nous avons péché, nous avons commis l’iniquité, et nous avons agi méchamment,

And if they take thought, in the land where they are prisoners, turning again to you, crying out in prayer to you in that land, and saying, We are sinners, we have done wrong, we have done evil;

38 – et s’ils reviennent à toi de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, dans le pays de leur captivité, où on les aura emmenés captifs, et [te] prient en se tournant vers leur pays que tu as donné à leurs pères, et vers la ville que tu as choisie, et vers la maison que j’ai bâtie pour ton nom:

If with all their heart and soul they are turned again to you, in the land where they are prisoners, the land where they have been taken, and make their prayers, turning their eyes to their land which you gave to their fathers, and to the town which you took for yourself, and the house which I have made for your name:

39 alors, écoute des cieux, du lieu de ton habitation, leur prière et leurs supplications, et fais-leur droit, et pardonne à ton peuple ce en quoi ils ont péché contre toi.

Then give ear from heaven your living-place to their prayer and their cry, and see right done to them, answering with forgiveness your people who have done wrong against you.

40 Maintenant, mon Dieu, que tes yeux, je te prie, soient ouverts, et que tes oreilles soient attentives à la prière [qu’on te fera] de ce lieu-ci.

Now, O my God, may your eyes be open and your ears awake to the prayers made in this place.

41 Et maintenant, Éternel Dieu! lève-toi pour [entrer dans] ton repos, toi et l’arche de ta force! Que tes sacrificateurs, Éternel Dieu, soient revêtus de salut, et que tes saints se réjouissent en [ta] bonté!

Up! now, O Lord God, come back to your resting-place, you and the ark of your strength: let your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let your saints be glad in what is good.

42 Éternel Dieu, ne repousse pas la face de ton oint; souviens-toi de [tes] grâces, envers David, ton serviteur.

O Lord God, let him whom you have taken for yourself never be given up by you: keep in mind your mercies to David your servant.
