< John 18 >

1 After Jesus spoke these words, he went out with his disciples to the other side of the Kidron Valley, where there was a garden into which he and his disciples entered.
Akati apedza kunyengetera, Jesu akabva navadzidzi vake akayambuka Mupata weKidhironi. Parutivi penzvimbo iyi paiva nebindu remiorivhi, uye iye navadzidzi vake vakapindamo.
2 Now Judas, who was going to betray him, also knew the place, for Jesus often went there with his disciples.
Zvino Judhasi uyo akamupandukira, aiziva nzvimbo yacho, nokuti Jesu aichimbosanganamo navadzidzi vake.
3 Then Judas, leading a group of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, went there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.
Saka Judhasi akasvika kubindu, achitungamirira boka ravarwi navamwe vatariri vaibva kuvaprista vakuru nokuvaFarisi. Vakanga vane mwenje namarambi uye nezvombo.
4 Then Jesus, who knew all the things that were happening to him, went forward and asked them, “Who are you looking for?”
Jesu, achiziva zvose zvakanga zvichizoitika kwaari, akabuda akaenda kwavari akati, “Munotsvaka ani?”
5 They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am.” Judas, who betrayed him, was also standing with the soldiers.
Vakapindura vakati, “Jesu weNazareta.” Jesu akati, “Ndini iye.” (Uye Judhasi mupanduki uya akanga amire navo ipapo.)
6 So when he said to them, “I am,” they went backward and fell to the ground.
Jesu paakati, “Ndini iye,” vakasudurukira shure vakawira pasi.
7 Then again he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” Again they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
Akapamhazve kuvabvunza achiti, “Ndianiko wamunoda?” Uye ivo vakati, “Jesu weNazareta.”
8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am. So if you are looking for me, let these go.”
Jesu akapindura akati, “Ndakuudzai kuti ndini iye. Kana muchitsvaka ini, zvino chiregai varume ava vaende.”
9 This was in order to fulfill the word that he said: “Of those whom you have given me, I lost no one.”
Izvi zvakaitika kuti mashoko aakanga ataura azadziswe, okuti: “Handina kurasikirwa nomumwe weava vamakandipa.”
10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. Now the name of the servant was Malchus.
Ipapo Simoni, uyo akanga ano munondo, akauvhomora akacheka muranda womuprista mukuru, akagura nzeve yake yokurudyi. (Zita romuranda uyo rainzi Marikusi.)
11 Jesus said to Peter, “Put the sword back into its sheath. Should I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”
Jesu akarayira Petro achiti, “Isa munondo wako mumuhara! Ko, ndicharega kunwa mukombe wandapiwa naBaba here?”
12 So the group of soldiers and the captain, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and tied him up.
Ipapo boka ravarwi navatariri vavaJudha vakabata Jesu vakamusunga.
13 They led him first to Annas, for he was father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
Uye vakatanga kuenda naye kuna Anasi, uyo akanga ari tezvara waKayafasi, iye aiva muprista mukuru gore iroro.
14 Now Caiaphas was the one who had given the advice to the Jews that it would be better that one man die for the people.
Kayafasi uyu ndiye uya akapa vaJudha zano rokuti zvainge zvakanaka kuti munhu mumwe chete afire vanhu.
15 Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and he entered with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest;
Simoni Petro nomumwe mudzidzi vainge vachitevera Jesu. Nemhaka yokuti mudzidzi uyu aizivikanwa nomuprista mukuru uyu, akapinda naJesu mudare redzimhosva romuprista mukuru,
16 but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the female doorkeeper and he brought Peter in.
asi Petro akasara kunze ari pamukova. Mumwe mudzidzi, aizivikanwa nomuprista mukuru, akadzoka akandotaura nomusikana aichengeta pamusuo ndokupinza Petro mukati.
17 Then the female servant, the doorkeeper, said to Peter, “Are you not also one of the disciples of this man?” He said, “I am not.”
Musikana akanga ari pamukova akabvunza Petro akati, “Iwe hausi mumwe wavadzidzi vake here?” Iye akapindura akati, “Handisi.”
18 Now the servants and the officers were standing there, and they had made a charcoal fire, for it was cold, and they were warming themselves. Peter was also with them, standing there and warming himself.
Kwaitonhora, saka varanda nevatariri vakamira vakadziya moto wavakanga vavesa kuti vadziyirwe. Petro akanga amirewo navo, achidziyawo moto.
19 The high priest then asked Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.
Panguva iyoyo, muprista mukuru akabvunza Jesu pamusoro pavadzidzi vake uye nezvedzidziso yake.
20 Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world. I was always teaching in synagogues and in the temple where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.
Jesu akapindura achiti, “Ndakataura pachena kunyika. Ndaigara ndichidzidzisa mumasinagoge kana patemberi, apo paiungana vaJudha vose pamwe chete. Handina kutaura chinhu muchivande.
21 Why did you ask me? Ask those who have heard me about what I said. Look, these people know what I said.”
Munondibvunzireiko? Bvunzai avo vakandinzwa. Zvirokwazvo vanoziva zvandakareva.”
22 When Jesus had said this, one of the officers standing there struck Jesus and said, “Is that how you answer the high priest?”
Jesu akati ataura izvi, mumwe wavatariri vakanga vari pedyo naye akamurova kumeso. Akati, “Ndiyo nzira yaunopindura nayo muprista mukuru here?”
23 Jesus answered him, “If I spoke wrongly, testify about the wrong, but if rightly, why do you hit me?”
Jesu akapindura akati, “Kana ndataura chimwe chinhu chakaipa, taura kuti chakaipa ndechipi. Asi kana ndataura chokwadi, seiko wandirova?”
24 Then Annas sent him tied up to Caiaphas the high priest.
Ipapo Anasi akamuendesa, akasungwa kuna Kayafasi muprista mukuru.
25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. The people then said to him, “Are you not also one of his disciples?” He denied it and said, “I am not.”
Simoni Petro achakamira achidziya moto, akabvunzwazve kuti, “Iwe hausi mumwe wavadzidzi vake here?” Akazviramba izvozvo, achiti, “Handizi.”
26 One of the servants of the high priest, who was a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Did I not see you in the garden with him?”
Mumwe wavaranda vomuprista mukuru, hama youya akanga agurwa nzeve yake naPetro, akamupikisa akati “Ko, handina kukuona unaye mubindu here?”
27 Peter then denied again, and immediately the rooster crowed.
Petro akazvirambazve izvozvo, uye panguva iyoyo jongwe rakatanga kurira.
28 Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the government headquarters. It was early in the morning, and they did not enter the government headquarters so that they would not be defiled but would eat the Passover.
Ipapo vaJudha vakatungamirira Jesu kubva kuna Kayafasi vakaenda naye kumuzinda womubati weRoma. Zvino akanga achiri mangwanani, uye kuti varege kusvibiswa, vaJudha vakarega kupinda mumuzinda; vaida kuti vakwanise kuzodya Pasika.
29 So Pilate went out to them and said, “What accusation are you bringing against this man?”
Saka Pirato akabuda kwavari akavabvunza achiti, “Mhosva yomurume uyu ndeyeiko?”
30 They answered and said to him, “If this man was not an evildoer, we would not have given him over to you.”
Vakapindura vachiti, “Dai anga asiri mutadzi, tingadai tisina kuuya naye kwamuri.”
31 Pilate therefore said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put any man to death.”
Pirato akati, “Mutorei imi mumutonge nomurayiro wenyu.” VaJudha vakaramba vachiti, “Asika, isu hatina mvumo yokuuraya munhu.”
32 They said this so that the word of Jesus would be fulfilled which he had spoken to indicate by what kind of death he would die.
Izvi zvakaitika kuitira kuti mashoko akanga ataurwa naJesu achiratidza mafiro aaizoita azadziswe.
33 Then Pilate entered the government headquarters again and called Jesus and he said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”
Ipapo Pirato akadzokerazve mumuzinda, akadana Jesu akamubvunza achiti, “Ndiwe mambo wavaJudha here?”
34 Jesus answered, “Do you speak from yourself, or did others speak to you about me?”
Jesu akati, “Kufunga kwako woga here kana kuti vamwe vataura newe pamusoro pangu?”
35 Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own people and the chief priests gave you over to me. What did you do?”
Pirato akapindura achiti, “Ndiri muJudha here ini? Vanhu vako navaprista vako vakuru vauya newe kwandiri. Wakaiteiko?”
36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were part of this world, then my servants would fight so that I would not be given over to the Jews. But now my kingdom is not from here.”
Jesu akapindura akati, “Umambo hwangu hahusi hwenyika ino. Dai zvanga zvakadaro, varanda vangu vaizorwa kuti ndirege kusungwa navaJudha. Asi zvino umambo hwangu hunobva kune imwe nzvimbo.”
37 Pilate then said to him, “Are you a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I have been born, and for this purpose I have come into the world, so that I would bear witness to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”
Pirato akati, “Saka uri mamboka!” Jesu akapindura akati, “Wataura zvakanaka pawati ndiri mambo. Chokwadi ndechokuti, ndizvo zvandakazvarirwa, uye nokuda kwaizvozvo ndakauya munyika, kuti ndizopupurira chokwadi. Ani naani anoda chokwadi anonditeerera.”
38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in this man.
Pirato akamubvunza akati, “Chokwadi chiiko?” Akati ataura izvozvo akabudazve kunze kuvaJudha akati, “Handiwani hwaro hwemhosva yomurume uyu.
39 But you have the custom that I release one person to you at the Passover. So do you want me to release the King of the Jews to you?”
Asi itsika yenyu imi kuti ini ndikusunungurirei musungwa panguva yePasika. Munoda here kuti ndikusunungurirei mambo wavaJudha?”
40 Then they cried out again and said, “Not this man, but Barabbas.” Now Barabbas was a robber.
Vakadanidzira vachiti, “Kwete, uyu! Tipei Bharabhasi!” Zvino Bharabhasi akanga ari gororo.
