Romans 14

1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, [but] not to doubtful disputations.

あなたがたは信仰の弱い人を受け入れなさい。その意見をさばいてはいけません。

2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.

何でも食べてよいと信じている人もいますが、弱い人は野菜よりほかには食べません。

3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.

食べる人は食べない人を侮ってはいけないし、食べない人も食べる人をさばいてはいけません。神がその人を受け入れてくださったからです。

4 Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

あなたはいったいだれなので、他人のしもべをさばくのですか。しもべが立つのも倒れるのも、その主人の心次第です。このしもべは立つのです。なぜなら、主には、彼を立たせることができるからです。

5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day [alike]. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

ある日を、他の日に比べて、大事だと考える人もいますが、どの日も同じだと考える人もいます。それぞれ自分の心の中で確信を持ちなさい。

6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth [it] unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard [it]. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

日を守る人は、主のために守っています。食べる人は、主のために食べています。なぜなら、神に感謝しているからです。食べない人も、主のために食べないのであって、神に感謝しているのです。

7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

私たちの中でだれひとりとして、自分のために生きている者はなく、また自分のために死ぬ者もありません。

8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.

もし生きるなら、主のために生き、もし死ぬなら、主のために死ぬのです。ですから、生きるにしても、死ぬにしても、私たちは主のものです。

9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

キリストは、死んだ人にとっても、生きている人にとっても、その主となるために、死んで、また生きられたのです。

10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

それなのに、なぜ、あなたは自分の兄弟をさばくのですか。また、自分の兄弟を侮るのですか。私たちはみな、神のさばきの座に立つようになるのです。

11 For it is written, [As] I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

次のように書かれているからです。 「主は言われる。わたしは生きている。 すべてのひざは、わたしの前にひざまずき、 すべての舌は、神をほめたたえる。」

12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

こういうわけですから、私たちは、おのおの自分のことを神の御前に申し開きすることになります。

13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in [his] brother’s way.

ですから、私たちは、もはや互いにさばき合うことのないようにしましょう。いや、それ以上に、兄弟にとって妨げになるもの、つまずきになるものを置かないように決心しなさい。

14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that [there is] nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him [it is] unclean.

主イエスにあって、私が知り、また確信していることは、それ自体で汚れているものは何一つないということです。ただ、これは汚れていると認める人にとっては、それは汚れたものなのです。

15 But if thy brother be grieved with [thy] meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.

もし、食べ物のことで、あなたの兄弟が心を痛めているのなら、あなたはもはや愛によって行動しているのではありません。キリストが代わりに死んでくださったほどの人を、あなたの食べ物のことで、滅ぼさないでください。

16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of:

ですから、あなたがたが良いとしている事がらによって、そしられないようにしなさい。

17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

なぜなら、神の国は飲み食いのことではなく、義と平和と聖霊による喜びだからです。

18 For he that in these things serveth Christ [is] acceptable to God, and approved of men.

このようにキリストに仕える人は、神に喜ばれ、また人々にも認められるのです。

19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

そういうわけですから、私たちは、平和に役立つことと、お互いの霊的成長に役立つこととを追い求めましょう。

20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed [are] pure; but [it is] evil for that man who eateth with offence.

食べ物のことで神のみわざを破壊してはいけません。すべての物はきよいのです。しかし、それを食べて人につまずきを与えるような人のばあいは、悪いのです。

21 [It is] good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor [any thing] whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

肉を食べず、ぶどう酒を飲まず、そのほか兄弟のつまずきになることをしないのは良いことなのです。

22 Hast thou faith? have [it] to thyself before God. Happy [is] he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

あなたの持っている信仰は、神の御前でそれを自分の信仰として保ちなさい。自分が、良いと認めていることによって、さばかれない人は幸福です。

23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because [he eateth] not of faith: for whatsoever [is] not of faith is sin.

しかし、疑いを感じる人が食べるなら、罪に定められます。なぜなら、それが信仰から出ていないからです。信仰から出ていないことは、みな罪です。
