Acts 14
1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.
イコニオムでも、ふたりは連れ立ってユダヤ人の会堂にはいり、話をすると、ユダヤ人もギリシヤ人も大ぜいの人々が信仰にはいった。
2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.
しかし、信じようとしないユダヤ人たちは、異邦人たちをそそのかして、兄弟たちに対し悪意を抱かせた。
3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
それでも、ふたりは長らく滞在し、主によって大胆に語った。主は、彼らの手にしるしと不思議なわざを行なわせ、御恵みのことばの証明をされた。
4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.
ところが、町の人々は二派に分かれ、ある者はユダヤ人の側につき、ある者は使徒たちの側についた。
5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use [them] despitefully, and to stone them,
異邦人とユダヤ人が彼らの指導者たちといっしょになって、使徒たちをはずかしめて、石打ちにしようと企てたとき、
6 They were ware of [it], and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:
ふたりはそれを知って、ルカオニヤの町であるルステラとデルベ、およびその付近の地方に難を避け、
7 And there they preached the gospel.
そこで福音の宣教を続けた。
8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked:
ルステラでのことであるが、ある足のきかない人がすわっていた。彼は生まれながらの足なえで、歩いたことがなかった。
9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,
この人がパウロの話すことに耳を傾けていた。パウロは彼に目を留め、いやされる信仰があるのを見て、
10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.
大声で、「自分の足で、まっすぐに立ちなさい。」と言った。すると彼は飛び上がって、歩き出した。
11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.
パウロのしたことを見た群衆は、声を張り上げ、ルカオニヤ語で、「神々が人間の姿をとって、私たちのところにお下りになったのだ。」と言った。
12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.
そして、バルナバをゼウスと呼び、パウロがおもに話す人であったので、パウロをヘルメスと呼んだ。
13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.
すると、町の門の前にあるゼウス神殿の祭司は、雄牛数頭と花飾りを門の前に携えて来て、群衆といっしょに、いけにえをささげようとした。
14 [Which] when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard [of], they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,
これを聞いた使徒たち、バルナバとパウロは、衣を裂いて、群衆の中に駆け込み、叫びながら、
15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:
言った。「皆さん。どうしてこんなことをするのですか。私たちも皆さんと同じ人間です。そして、あなたがたがこのようなむなしいことを捨てて、天と地と海とその中にあるすべてのものをお造りになった生ける神に立ち返るように、福音を宣べ伝えている者たちです。
16 Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.
過ぎ去った時代には、神はあらゆる国の人々がそれぞれ自分の道を歩むことを許しておられました。
17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.
とはいえ、ご自身のことをあかししないでおられたのではありません。すなわち、恵みをもって、天から雨を降らせ、実りの季節を与え、食物と喜びとで、あなたがたの心を満たしてくださったのです。」
18 And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.
こう言って、ようやくのことで、群衆が彼らにいけにえをささげるのをやめさせた。
19 And there came thither [certain] Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew [him] out of the city, supposing he had been dead.
ところが、アンテオケとイコニオムからユダヤ人たちが来て、群衆を抱き込み、パウロを石打ちにし、死んだものと思って、町の外に引きずり出した。
20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.
しかし、弟子たちがパウロを取り囲んでいると、彼は立ち上がって町にはいって行った。その翌日、彼はバルナバとともにデルベに向かった。
21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and [to] Iconium, and Antioch,
彼らはその町で福音を宣べ、多くの人を弟子としてから、ルステラとイコニオムとアンテオケとに引き返して、
22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, [and] exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
弟子たちの心を強め、この信仰にしっかりとどまるように勧め、「私たちが神の国にはいるには、多くの苦しみを経なければならない。」と言った。
23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.
また、彼らのために教会ごとに長老たちを選び、断食をして祈って後、彼らをその信じていた主にゆだねた。
24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.
ふたりはピシデヤを通ってパンフリヤに着き、
25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:
ペルガでみことばを語ってから、アタリヤに下り、
26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.
そこから船でアンテオケに帰った。そこは、彼らがいま成し遂げた働きのために、以前神の恵みにゆだねられて送り出された所であった。
27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.
そこに着くと、教会の人々を集め、神が彼らとともにいて行なわれたすべてのことと、異邦人に信仰の門を開いてくださったこととを報告した。
28 And there they abode long time with the disciples.
そして、彼らはかなり長い期間を弟子たちとともに過ごした。
